about a person bought lots of DS bundles under 200 from toysrus and sells them for high price on ebay. shes making lots of money. lucky

its at the bottom half. the top half is about the ps2
DS story

wonder how many of them went for 230 compair to 300. Plus remember shipping cost 15-20 per system. So she made 10-80 per system (i highly doubt many paid 300) so say avg 40 per system profit. I dont know about you But 45 bucks isnt enough to worry about the person paying me will do a chargeback

What the heck? Come one people, if you sell 15 of them and only make $30 profit on each one, you still make $450 dollars in profit. $450 in profit is well worth it. Geez...

It wouldn't be worth it for me. Not after one factors in eBay fees, shipping costs, packaging costs, time costs, gas costs, the cost of going out and getting all 15, dealing with emails, etc.

I mean, I guess if you were really poor that incredibly slim profit might be worth it but shoot, I'd rather just work the two days it takes to earn that.. (1 day pre-deductions!)

1) Item A is rumored to become scarce.
2) People wanting to make a quick buck buy all of item A that they can get their hands on.
3) Item A becomes scarce due to (2).
4) The people who bought all the stock sell the items for higher than retail -- after all, they earned it because they smartly purchased so many of them while they were still available. The people they are selling them to should have gone out to the stores when they were still available (of course, they weren't still available, because these profiteers bought them all).

I don't have a problem with capitalism, I do have a problem people doing this sort of thing. Ideally, at any stage a product goes through prior to being purchased by a consumer, there should be value added. The retail store gives one a comfortable shopping environment, a return policy, etc. Without the store we would be unable to purchase the item, because the manufacturer will not sell it directly to individuals (we will leave internet commerce out of this part of the discussion).

These resellers, however, do not offer any added value. One could say that they offer a scarce product that is unavailable through other outlets, but that is only because they removed it from those other outlets. If these people were completely removed from the picture, the ones who are buying from them would be able to buy from the store.

An organism that feeds off of a system without contributing anything to it is called a parasite, not a capitalist.

I have a friend who bought 16, couldn't sell half of them, and now his return period is up. The ones he sold went for like $200-210, but most didn't sell at all.

well my used ds just sold for 199.99 shipped....i think it cost $11 to list and paypal took like $6.

i was just happy to make my $150 back cause i needed the money for something else.

also i was at bb today when they received a new shipment. people where all over them

Finally, someone who put into words what I've been thinking for ages.

It's definitely not worth it. I bought one to sell on Ebay and cancelled my auction after it became obvious that it wasn't going to go for more than $200. So the system cost $160 after tax and shipping and Ebay/Paypal fees would have left me with $20 or less - on a $150 item. My rule of thumb is above 50% is ok and below is not worth it.

20/150=~15%

I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to selling on EBay, but I'm pretty sure that the buyer pays for shipping if the auction says so. She easily made over $600 by selling these, Ebay listing fees wouldn't deduct much from her profit...A few days of easy work for $600+?...Seems logical enough for me.

But I still hate her for hoarding.

no, it's not... at least not to me. Let's say she sells all 15 for $250 (being generous) and she paid $200 for each system. She's netting $50 per system for a total of $750. Now she has to factor in shipping for all 5 systems - let's be generous and say $18 per system (with DC and insurance, of course) for a total of $270. Her profit now is down to roughly $480. Not too shabby....

Oh wait, I forgot about all that driving... Let's see.... visiting 6 TRUs in a 60 mile radius would easily span 400 miles of driving (at a minimum) if we use 60 miles as the radius of that circle and assume she at least drove the circumfrence's length in her travels (she probably drove more but I want to be conservative). Now let's assume she drives an average car that gets 20 miles to the gallon. Her total gas costs based on a $1.919 per gallon cost (source: AAA at http://198.6.95.31/) would be about $38.18. Now we are down to a profit of $441.62. Not bad....

Oh crap I almost forgot about all of that time the jackass and her daughter spent doing this. On a very conservative estimate, this lady also wasted at least two working days (16 hours) of her and her daughter's lives. I'm basing this on the fact that if they drove 400 miles going an average of 40 miles an hour (taking into account city and highway driving) they spent 10 hours in the car. Now let's not forget the time spent in each store... we can assume they were fast because they knew what they were buying so we can say 20 minutes per store on average for another 2 hours. Now we have to consider the time spent listing each auction, packing each system, making another trip to the post office and mailing them out which I think 4 hours of that is reasonable.

This all works out to around $220 per person for 16 hours worth of work meaning they averaged $13.80 an hour for their troubles. I won't even go into eBay fees, PayPal fees and the dreaded nonpaying bidder which would kill all profit if she shipped one out and got a chargeback. Any way you slice it $13.80 an hour is shit and totally not worth it. :D

This is good. Now the parasites can give back to the community by selling their goods below retail in order to get rid of excess stock.
I sold my DS by itself for $260 2 days after launch.
But how many miles did you drive and what is your mpg?

Hopefully she sells them all before christmas, otherwise she might be stuck with some extra units. Since there's supposed to be a massive shipment after christmas. Wouldn't be funny if she did all this and was stuck with about 3 systems that she doesn't need  (but she could always return the extras) .

that makes no sense. She saw a market for an item-- so she bought the stuff at regular price, which contributes to the store, nintendo and our economy. now she's selling them for profit to those who are willing to pay more for the item. That's basically how every store operates-- they buy things from companies for less, then sell them to people for more.

So she's not a parasite, she's just kind of a heartless, capatilist bitch :p
