Cable to connect console with monitor

CAGiversary!
Please help a noob here.

I got a new monitor from a friend that has DVI and VGA connector on it. I want to connect it to my 360 but I have never done that before. So with my limited research, I understand that DVi output better graphics than VGA, and wonder if I can simply find a random HDMI to DVI cable to connect my 360 with the monitor?

If so, what is a good place to get such cable?

Ok so, I dont think you can get a random hdmi to dvi cable and use it with your 360. I connect mine to the monitor using a 360 vga cable, which is different than a regular one since one end is made only to go into the 360 and other end is a vga to go to your monitor. As far as I know that is the only way. I bought mine a microcenter but you can find them at all the major retailers that sell game for example here is the microcenter one:

basically you want that, many different companies make it so it wont be hard to find.

Good Luck!

Definitely go with monoprice for your cables. Everything there is cheap, and they ship via USPS (which is essential for someone like me who is in Hawaii). They have excellent customer service and their cables are top notch!

Yeah but my 360 also has a HDMI connector and I thought HDMI is universal. So I can just get a HDMI (360) to DVI (monitor) cable? As for the sound part, PenguinMaster's suggestion seems to work but I don't understand 100%. Is there such cable on sale at Monoprice also?

Here's what I used when I had my 360 hooked up to a pc monitor.

For sound, I used the component cables that came with the 360 and plugged the left right audio into a rca to 3.5mm splitter and plugged that into the Line-in jack on the back of my PC. Once I did that, the sound came out through my computer speakers and I muted all sounds except Line-in when i was playing.

Ok I got the cable penguinmaster mentioned, and now realized what he meant exactly in his comment. I can't fit the cable that came with the 360 the same time with the HDMI cable, because the official cable has this big bulky thing at the connector that prevent me from plugging in two cable at the same time.... now where can i find a cable for sound?.....

I would just remove the plastic covering around your current cable, but be warned, you may have a restart issue if you turn the monitor off or switch inputs while the 360 is running unless you mod one of the pins inside or buy the official "audio dongle"

Also make sure to change your consoles color space to RGB and reference level to expanded for proper usage with a PC monitor.
