i have a credit card that has been accumulating "reward points" for spending money. i didn't even know this until recently, but it seems that i have accumulated a lot of points. they offer a lot of crap, but in addition they give out gift cards to various places that carry games.

since i don't know which retailers have the best or most frequent deals, my question is where could i get the most bang for my "free" gift card:

best buy
target
circuit city
toys r us
borders
blockbuster
 
I'd get one for Circuit City and wait on a huge sale.. they're inevitable, CC discounts tons of stuff all the time.

Agreed, I sense another 5 dollar CC sale on the horizons.
 
First find out if this "gift card thing" will expire soon. If not then I say go for Target. They have good price drops/sales often enough that you'll get good use out of it. My second choice would be Best Buy. If you use the $5 coupon GGC then with a $100 gift card you can easily rack up $120 worth of games. I know it's not a huge bonus, but hey any bit helps.
 
You've got a good list of prime retailers there. I'd pick the one you frequent the most or the one that is closest to you. Eventually, you'll find something you want (gaming or otherwise) at all the locations, so I wouldn't worry so much about forecasting the next great sale.
 
And Target has a wider selection of household goods, so you're not limiting yourself.
First, does each one offer the same points-per-dollar?
If they do, I'd either go Target or Best Buy, those are the places I go most often.
Target, BB, and CC all have sales and competitive prices reasonably often.
 
You may also want to ask the credit card company if there is an option to send you a check. With my credit card through BankOne the advertised rewards are all gift cards. However, last time I called to redeem my points, the rep mentioned I could also have a check mailed to me. It was for the same dollar amount, so I went with that option. This probably isn't an option on most cards, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
 
I'd go with Target just because I buy stuff there nearly every week. If you don't normally shop at any of those stores I'd go wtih Best Buy probably. BB gift cards can be resold for a pretty high % of their face value on eBay, plus you can use it with the GGC coupon and they do PM.

You don't shop at any of those stores regularly?
 
i say get the Blockbuster. If they have a gamerush attached to it you are golden.
You have the choices of new games, used. i would rather have this choice than just new games.
