1. I wasn't happy with the boxing mini-game on Wii Sports. The controls were awkward and unresponsive, making it difficult to accurately throw punches. Victorious Boxers looks impressive though with the motion controls. From the videos I've seen, it appears the punching motions have been implemented very well, and that's amazing this early in the system's life, as there aren't that many Wii games that have perfect controls. The Godfather had basic motion combat controls with punches, hooks and uppercuts, and even with that simplicity the Wii controls felt immersive and real, with a lot of impact and feedback. The expanded and improved motion control in Victorious Boxers should make it one of the most immersive Wii games. I would have preferred to see more motion to be involved with the special moves under the motion control setting, though.
2. I am a huge fan of Hajime no Ippo and the Victorious Boxers, so that definitely influences my purchase. In most boxing games, you fight "faceless" opponents with no personality and a generic look. Since this game is based off a popular manga and anime series, the characters are already well developed and fleshed out, with their own unique designs, through their moves, looks, demeanors, and motivations. This gives the game much more personality, because you're not fighting a lifeless punching dummy. You're fighting people.
3. This game appeals to both crowds; the anime/manga fans and the gaming fans alike. There seems to be a surge of popularity for anime-styled and cel-shaded games, and the art style for this game is definitely distinctive enough to stand out. Anime fans generally seem to flock to anime styled games, because it's a familiar genre and style that they're already accustomed to. Gaming fans will see a great boxing game with a finely toned engine. They should be itching for a new boxing game after Wii Sports boxing, and this game along with its refined motion controls should provide what they want. The gameplay system is also reminiscent of the arcade version of Punch Out, which is also a nostalgic fan favorite. I am an anime/manga and gaming fan, and Victorious Boxers for the Wii appeals to both my sensibilities.
