CAG iPhone Poll - Did you take the plunge?
Thought about it since my contract with Verizon was up this week. But then I saw the LG Dare and picked one of those up yesterday. Must say I can't stop playing with it and am quite happy to stay with Verizon. I already have 3 Ipods including a Touch so music is not really important to me for my phone. The touch screen and browser on the Dare, as well as the kick ass camera (3.2 MP) / video make me plenty happy.

Any of you guys with Verizon, check out the Dare before you even think of jumping ship to AT&T for the iphone.
Great phone, I have the Dare to. It's Verizon's answer to the iphone.

I checked out well... sorta "looked" at the outside of the phone (couldn't turn it on  ), but the problem as I and others have said is they want to fucking rape you on the service plans. That alone makes all these "touch" phones absolutely fucking worthless.

My LG Rumor/ $30 plan will do just fine. As for the other stuff my Touch and Samsung P2 will work for the rest.

I'd get the iPhone if it was on Sprint....the SERO plan is the greatest plan ever...unlimited text/data/everything for 30$ a month

Why would I want an iPhone? I just got a HTC MOGUL 6800 with a full keyboard, touchscreen, windows mobile 6, and besides that I got the SERO plan from Sprint, and my monthly fee is 40$ monthly with unlimited data ,messaging and internet., 500 minutes and nights and weekends free! Why would I want a stupid iPhone?

There are far better choices for phones out there than the iPhone....there are endless great windows mobile devices, the people who has the iPhone, are iPods fans, apple fans, never will, never will........

I have iPhone 1.0 and don't pay for the data plan. With the increased price of the 3G data plan and pretty crummy 3G coverage I don't see any reason to upgrade.

I don't have the data plan because it's too expensive for what it is and just about every place seems to have wifi available.

The only reason I have the iPhone is work helped pay a nice percentage. I would usually get the free phones.

No, for two reasons:

1. I'll be a Verizon customer until I die, I've never had a problem with their service in all the areas I've been in
2. I'd never use a third of the iPhone's features

What's the absolute cheapest data plan available?

If it's somewhat reasonable (I am a college student) I may consider buying one.

I went to the ATT store on Friday but the line was too long for me to wait in the hot sun plus I had to get back to the office after court. After the intial euphoria on Friday passed I havent been really thinking about it. The problem is I have a blackberry curve that I got in November 07 for personal use, which I love. I also just got a blackberry curve through verizon from work that has unlimited everything. I would like to ditch my curve from work and rock the iphone for personal use and the curve for work and blackberry messaging but still undecided. I am sure I will walk in the store during the week and just pick it up.

The cheapest plan is $70, which includes 300 minutes and 0 text messages. 200 texts are an addition $5, and it goes up from there.

So you're paying a minimum of $70/month for the iPhone.

Not a big fan of the price but I understand the economics of it. Basically, if you are not going to use the data plan then this phone is really not for you. Seems like a lot of people want the iphone but they really aren't going to take advantage of all its features, which makes the phone not a good purchase and makes the price seem too expensive.

If you on the other hand are a heavy internet browser, and text messager then an iphone seems like a great convergence device for you. As an admitted crackberry addict its not just a phone its a complete communication device.

In many ways, I think the iPhone is going to replace my PSP and DS. Yea, I'm enjoying this device alot. The casual games that are available now are cool, I can't wait until the good stuff starts to drop. I'd also like to see some "One-Touch" apps like enable/disable Wi-Fi/3G/BT and maybe an app that keeps track of how long my iPhone is actually connected to 3G. It would go a long way to justifying the data plan's cost. :D

The handset itself is badass. No way I would switch to ATT though. Very poor coverage here and that plan is a bit too pricey for me still.

i dont mind att, but the iphone doesn't interest me whatsoever, it's just a bunch of bells and whistles and more shit i don't need built into my cellphone, and for only a few hundred dollars! i have no problem waiting until i'm at a computer to use youtube, having it on my phone is not that impressive, really who cares? i'd rather spend the money on something actually worthwile
which size did you get and what color option did you go for. I ask because alot of people were on the fence RE: the black units since the iLounge(.com) articles about smudgyness from the black unit. I ended up getting 1 of each so that I could sit back & decide @ home myself. The black seems fine and that review may have been a bit overly dramatic.... Curious as to what you think of your final color choice(s).

REWN
I got a 16 gb black, the wife. Got a 8 gb black unit. I have a lot of songs/photo in my iTunes. I also have been sitting on $500 in apple gift cards. The black model hasn't been an issue. We both have a see thru hard plastic case. To tell them apart, we have placed small photos on the back side of the case.

The iphone still has WiFi. Just about every place I go has free WiFi for it's customers: grocery store, coffee shop, restaurants, walking down the street you can get the neighbors. So, to me the data plan doesn't make any sense for it's cost.

I love the iphone for the option of having my ipod and my phone in one unit. I'm probably in the minority, but that's all I really wanted and need.

What doesn't make sense is that the prices for plans have not dropped in price. It's greed, conspiracy, or I just don't understand the economics of providing mobile phone service. You'd think with the competition that prices would have dropped over the last few years.

They definitely over charge, though. They should be charging about $55/month. At $75/month I bet their profit margins are around 50%.

Well, the phone is more of a technology item. As technology improves, the prices tend to drop. Personal Computers as an example.

When looking at the prices of phone plans, I'm mostly looking at something like broadband as a comparison. Broadband prices have dropped, at least to some extent. Due to competition and improvements in technology (and possibly wider user base).

However, even with more and more people dropping their land lines for a mobile phone exclusive and everyone from grandma to grade school Joe using a mobile phone, prices seemed to gone up.

With broadband, the marginal cost for each additional user is very minimal, thus the ability to lower prices. I'd have to assume that adding a user to a cellular network has a higher marginal cost, thus the price.
god i hate economics
No phone is worth ditching Sprint's SERO plan for. I hope I can hold on to this phone plan for many years.
You do know SERO has gone up 100% in price, right?
