CAG PSN Gamesharing #9 - Find/Create a Gameshare Group and Gameshare FAQ

After being away from this community for a while (new job got in the way of gaming), I was bummed to read up on the phantom nerf that took place.  It does seem like there could be a market for them under these circumstances or am I wrong?
 

  • Some folks might like playing offline for whatever reason
  • Some folks might have an extra PS4 for offline purposes only
  • Some folks like to live dangerously on the chance of scoring a bargain
Regarding the last one, is the likelihood of losing phantoms at 100% at the next PSN log-in?  If not, what are the ballpark chances of keeping a phantom alive for any length of online time?

If getting phantoms for offline playing, it would be best to get a batch of them at the same time, right, else you're limited to just one phantom at a time?

When it first started happening, it happened to most everyone. But as of late, it doesn't happen as much. Either way, enough people were rattled and the prices have been lowered to compensate for the risk. I sell PS4 phantoms of $60 retail games for a measly $8 now ($8 for vets that is, newer members pay $10 AND have to front a deposit). Many find it is well worth the risk at that price, even for online-only games.
 
I think it's triggered after turn off and on Internet. I have auto updates disabled but once the online is back again (same day later, after restart) all updates are forced to download in download list.
 
From the testing that I did what I could come up with is that phantoms lock within 10 days of being online. I cannot guarantee any other information but the tests I did lasted 10 days or sooner.

Are phantoms dead? Yeah sure. But if you stay offline you are good to go.

From what I could tell it could take a certain amount of time for Sony to find out that the account was de activated. Again this is just from my personal experience.

It happens to me sooner now than it did before. :p When I had a phantom of Witcher on it's release it last me nearly two weeks before it locked. But more recently Metal Gear and Fallout both locked for me after two days each. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Managing queues is gonna be hard with this... I imagine members get priority but please don't forget to update the rest of us as to what this means for things going forward as it will have some impact on waiting lines

Games have always been available for rent and it has no effect on managing queue's. Anytime a phantom or rental is done, the club forums are updated as appropriate.

thats what happened with my mgs 5 phantom when i wanted to try my luck after completing the game. I went online with the ps4 and was even able to download title updates for it.

But the next days it was gone.

However I think it might also be related to the ps4 starting up. Whenever the ps4 starts up it does run a lot of checks and programs and server contacts. So maybe it helps if you go online with your ps4 phantom, but actually turn off internet again before turning off your ps4.

And then always repeat this step of only going online with your ps4 after its started up, and always turning off internet before you turn it off, might make phantoms live longer, as you prevent the ps4 from doing all the "startup-sequence"-checks.

Nope I lost a Fallout 4 phantom the other day when I just connected to update ironically MGS 5 because my save on it wouldn't work without the update then when I got done I put the console offline and I was installing a few other games and Fallout 4 was gone. I never turned off the PS4.

I don't know how you guys do the gameshares now with how the phantom are and such, but I am looking for a Star Wars Battlefront share. $40 for sellable, 20 for Locked (have to use on account game was bought). I am going off gametz stuff so forgive me if you guys still frown on locked but non-sells can't even be played online anymore thanks to some sony update.
