CAG Video Game/Toy Drive for Child's Play Charity
cp468.jpg

Last year, the guys at Penny Arcade started a charity called Child's Play, whose goal is to bring new video games and toys to sick children at several US children's hospitals. I really admire the the job that the Penny Arcade guys did on this last year, so I think that those of us who can, should do something to help their charity.

How the CAG community can help Child's Play:

:arrow:Contribue to the CAG community PayPal fund
The games are ordered and the fund is closed! We raised $1531. Thanks to everyone who contributed. There are a few REALLY generous CAGs out there.

*I'm a CAG!

I think this a fun and easy way for us to do a little bit of good this holiday season.
I'll be making a donation in the name of CAG, I hope you will join me.

i would love to get a pstwo or a new system for one of the hospitals... maybe some CAGs can pool together like 5 bucks a piece and put in for one? that would be cool... there are so many of us it would be stupid not to do something for the less fortunate this year!

i got some new lilo and stitch toys, ill probally send those to them

OR MAYBE start a paypal fund where we paypal like, couple of bucks in to someone, and when theres enough, buy a new game console? =D

I think the idea of us pitching in to get a console or two is a great idea. With all these profits we get from faving money on games, why not use it towards something that will benefit others for a change?
Theres 22000 of us. If we even 1/3 put a couple of bucks in it could help out some less fortunate kids.
1-3$ from 1/3 of us would be 15k
anyone want to set up a fund? im in

I'm definately down for contributing, I have no idea how to set up a fund though. Hopefully someone who does know will soon so we can get this started!

I think StealthySeal is going to set up the fund.
I know where he lives ;)
I'll add the info to the OP when ready.
Hey, if all goes well, CAG can get a HUGE tax deduction!
No, if you donate the money, you get the deduction, but I like your thinking!

I'm so cheap I turned a charity into a tax deduction.

hahahaha, well we should have like a list of all the contributers, like CAG name and how much they donated. that would be awesome.

I don't relish the idea of receiving yearly donation requests ("Wouldn't you like to participate in THIS year's Child's Play drive?") ...that is one common consequence of contributing to drives like this. Another is that you often start receiving mass mailings from every charitable organization under the Sun after you contribute to one. Long-term junk mail can follow a kind gesture in this day and age, and they have a way of finding your address from the merest whiff of your personal information online (it's almost spooky.) Is there a way those of us who would like to contribute could do so, while staying below this Charity Radar? (read: could I just email you what I've ordered from their Wish List and have you be the front man, CheapyD? I don't need credit or unending junk mail. That way, only you associate my email addy with this. ...and they only get you, that way. )

the account is set up... i can make more... i will let cheapy post the link and all... we have a 1000 dollar limit on this one but no fees! so i will make another if our cheap asses can get anough $$ pulled together! this is a really cool thing... hopefully we can help out some of the less fortunate gamers out there!

Hey, I'm definitely in. No PayPal, though. Maybe we should organize a way for people who want to donate money but doesn't have PayPal?
hahahaha, well we should have like a list of all the contributers, like CAG name and how much they donated. that would be awesome.
i think we should have some sort of icon that we could put in our sigs showing that we donated...obviously people COULD just copy and use them, but that would be in the worst taste ever

Very cool Cheapy! :applause:
I don't live close to any of these hospitals, but I will see if I can set up a PP account for this.

I got Cel Damage for the Xbox for $5, it's not really a kids game through. And I don't know where it is right this second.

The link doesn't seem to be working for me. Can I go directly to paypal and send payment though there? What do I check as payment type?

i think after we have enough donations, we should vote on what we should want to buy with the donations. =D only seems fair.

I think we should start a thread or something else(maybe a list on the front page?) that lists all of the CAGs that donated. I know that the point of donating is NOT to gain accolades for yourself, it's to help others. However, it is also very easy NOT to donate anything when no one will be the wiser. If you list everyone that has donated I think people will be much more likely to donate since everyone can see who has and hasn't donated. It's kind of sad that people think this way, but hey it works and the point of this is to raise as much money as possible for charity, so why not do it?
please include your CAG name when sending money from now on then!
i did include my cag name, even my email address would hint something no?.. =[

i just sent in $2...i know its not alot but im really low on cash, and $2 has been 4 days worth of food latley. hopefully i can donate more once i start getting pay checks again, how long is this thing gunna be going on?

Not a frequent visitor but this idea was too good to pass up. Maybe this will show that all us gamers aren't just social outcasts in basements but people who care about our communites. Well I hope that many people in the forum will use the money they saved and give to those who can use it this hoilday season. Good initative Stealthy!
Also, it would be kind of cool to have a running total going, so everyone can see how much we have raised.
i will send in some money only when the things that you've mentioned in your past few posts happen...they're great ideas IMO

well here are the following plans:

i will keep track of who makes the donations and compile a list very soon (i think)

i will also not let anyone know how much each person donated... every bit counts... 1-100 dollars!

we also will keep a fairly constant total running of how much we have so far

keep sending in the money... we already have more than i expected! keep up the good work everyone!

hook us up dude! how much we got?

to anyone that dosent have paypal, you get $5 for signing up, $5 is a pretty good donation in itself! so if you dont have paypal at all sign up and send the free cash!!

i have an idea of instead buying a ps2 or xbox, save some money and get maybe 2 gc's?
Thats probably a good idea. Save some money and plus GC games are aimed towards kids. And 4 ports! More kids can play.
yea, exact same thing. if your going to either get a xbox or ps2, xbox if you wanted 4 ports, ps2 because of libary.

well 4 ports is a good thing in this situation where the more the marrier. libary wouldnt matter if you aint got nobody to play with.

GC beats the 4 port / libary issue because its a system with 4 ports, and most of the kid games are for GC anywho

Any chance someone here can get in touch with a major retailer, and find out if they would be willing to match donations or sell some systems at a discounted price? It seems like a cause that would be hard to turn down.
