CAGcast #200: Jews Gone Wild

Skid Row / Sebastian Bach should redo youth gone wild as jews gone wild.

also congrats on 200! Heres for another 200 to come.

You pointed out the exact reason why those user moderation systems are awful. In the vast majority of cases, posts are modded down when someone posts an opposing viewpoint, regardless of how well reasoned it may be. A moderation system should be used to discourage trolling/offensive/off topic posts, not to discourage conversation.
I agree with this point; it's a double edged sword to use. For example, if anyone in this thread was railing against Red Dead Redemption (for valid reasons), that person will most likely be rated down against because of the massive amounts of fanboys who like the game. Look at the number of posts bashing Shipwreck for *GASP*, not liking a mainstream game.

But at the same time, if someone is obviously trolling, this system would help downvote people like those out of existence. However, I feel if trolls are getting out of hand, it's better to simply report the post and let the mods take care of it.

Really surprised about Ship's feelings on RDR. I think it's worlds above any previous R* game, or any previous sandbox game.

If you haven't finished Bonnie's yet then just keep playing. You've still only experienced a miniscule amount of the game as a whole. It picks up ten-fold after a few hours, the story especially so.

About Alan Wake's sales figures, I don't think they'll be awful but certainly not as high as it deserves. As I've said in the AW thread, I'm so impressed with Sam Lake for creating AW's universe.

Great episode overall, though.

Congratulations guys for 200th shows. I've been listening since around #70 and I can tell you that the CAGcast is getting better than ever.

p.s.
Love the new logo, but am I the only one who noticed the word "ASS" right on top of Cheapy's head? It even matches with the color of his shirt!! lol can't unsee

Having not finished Bonnie's missions you could say he hasn't even started the game yet.

However, to say the story picks up right away is load of bologna. The missions leading up to the climax at Ft. Mercer are nothing but bull shit favor missions of which I feel there were way too many (I found myself being just as frustrated with Irish as john Marshton was!). Every Mission you do in Mexico with the exception of the 2nd to last and 3rd to last are nothing but run around missions helping out with the Mexican Revolution that don't advance John Marshton's story at all and you end up with nothing more than a person's hopes and promises of details on what you want to know.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy the actual missions. Many of them, especially the ones involving trains, were quite fun. When it comes to the story picking up though don't expect that to happen until you are done with the missions in Mexico and you're back in Blackwater.

Riding around in this becomes less of a chore though because of the random events that take place in the game. A lot of them are really fun! I think the one I like most is the one where
you have to save a dudes buddy who is about to be hanged and you have to swoop in and save the day by killing the bad dudes and shooting the rope
. Plus there you can usually accomplish something like hunting, flower picking, stranger quests, etc. in between riding from point A to point B. Plus if you really do hate the riding around just throw up a camp site and fast travel to your destination.

Keep playing, Ship! This game blows GTAIV out of the fuckin' water!!!

Well, I more meant the characters and their individual stories get a lot more interesting. I think the story missions get really good once you join up with the Marshall.

With any open world R* game it's mostly focused on the mission contacts and their various sub-plots until you get close to the end. Which doesn't really bother me when they're as good as RDR's, IMO. But I see what you mean - it can feel a bit scattered at times when you're doing jobs that don't directly help John's cause.

Congrats on 200...is this the longest running video game podcast still in production? I know it's the longest video game deal podcast at least... :p

Hey, Cheapy D,

Love your show! Recently, Michael Pachter said, "He believe the PS3 is the most awesome console, and it's far better than the XBOX 360" in his show, Pach-attack. What do you think about that?
You do know Pach's comment was laced in sarcasm, right?

If it was a little while ago I would have said take a drink anytime Wombat did his Cosby voice and said PUDDIN POPS. I miss that gag. Anyway to bring that one back for the future?

Congrats on the 200th show!!!!! and here's to 200 more.

I don't like the new CAGCAST Logo... it looks too small, I think that it needs to be wider so that you can see the artwork of each person. The sign looks cramped, if you look at the posts above mine.. I think that the cagcast logo should be about the width of the gamercards.

It's a Cheap Ass Hit!

Those EB Games morning update threads were awesome. Being unemployed at the time, I spent way too much money then. Here's one for example.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84218

For historical accuracy, contrary to what Cheapy said on the show, at the time EB didn't guarantee case+manual for games. You would just roll the dice and pull the trigger and return it in-store if you weren't happy with it.

Also, regarding the new logo, what is that supposed to be stacked behind you? Games? It's unclear. And I know it won't look as realistic, but the money in Cheapy's hand should be Cheap Ass Green.

I can't believe only 15k people listen to the Cagcast. A few comments:

First off, one of the reasons I listen to the CAGcast is that there are no nasal cloying nerdy Asians in it, which seem to be a staple of all other gaming podcasts.

The CAGcast is the best. I made a bunch of comments in the past, and either I got used to what you have going on or minor improvements have been made.
Some examples of stuff that has changed:

No plot summaries. Shipwreck used to talk about plot a lot but he seems to have stopped, and focussed on his personal experiences more. Far more enriching.

Less Wombat ME ME ME. I don't think Wombat is any less interested in talking about himself, but having Shipwreck dilutes Wombat to a wonderful level and forces him to increase the quality of his commentary, just because there's less space for him to say everything that comes to mind. There is no CAGcast with out the Womb, and Ship's arrival has only made him better (by ratios at least).

More poop talk! Well, I didn't ask for this, but there is definitely nothing wrong with philosophical exploration of human universals.
-----
I can't wait to hear about the CAG E3 experience.

Cheapy: Nice work ensuring that you get no head for another 3 1/2 years.

Alan Wake is on my short list thanks to you fellas. And Heavy Rain just dropped off of it.

I would bet that the attach rate for games you recommend on the CAGcast to listeners is extremely high. And I bet that the level of buzz it generates is probably more than twice the listenership through friends and recommendations. I'm happy to see companies are giving you guys credit for being influential and sending you product.

A few questions/comments for the next CAGcast:

Wombat and Cheapy like to slam the Wii as the underpowered shovelware platform that it is. I will admit I barely played with the system until my kids got old enough (around 5) to play it. Now it's their platform of choice, which I sometimes play with them. Do you think you'll use the Wii more when you're kids become old enough to play games?

Can you guys make any predictions about Shipwreck's gaming post-baby? Not that they have immediate plans, but it would be unusual for a young married couple not to have kids as part of the plan (although I couldn't blame them if they didn't want to contribute to overpopulation). Will he drop out of the podcast? Will he stop gaming? Will he sell the 'Kong? Shipwreck, what do you predict for yourself and Mrs. Ship?

Do you guys think American Jews have thicker skins than other people, as far as jokes go? A half Jew friend of mine married an Israeli and she takes things waay more seriously than we/other American Jews do. Almost as seriously as the goyishim. I got off on the wrong foot with her with this joke: "Why don't Jewish women like to give head?" --- "Too close to the gas chamber."

Does anyone here actually actively avoid walmart? I actually 9 times out of 10 pick up new releases there because there doesn't have to be some bullshit quota reached for a midnight release. If you show up at midnight just ask the stock person for the game!

However, lately all these gift card deals have got me to get my games from Amazon.
Cheapy: Nice work ensuring that you get no head for another 3 1/2 years.
Since Mrs. Cheapy never listens to the CAGcast, his statement will neither hinder nor help his chances.

I just don't get how he says some of the things that he does knowing that his parents listen.

Holy crap that episode 1 clip was...well I'm not really sure what to call it. Wombat sounded like a snarky 8 year old trying to sound mature. Cheapy's voice sounded so thick and gummy with weed that he was barely recognizable. What was with calling all the good games "solid"? How dorky!

You guys have come a long, long way. Congrats.

That's not what I've seen. The original post mentioned Engadget as well, and it stinks there as well as every other place I've seen. Even the best user moderation system (Slashdot) has the same issue. Say something pro-Microsoft and anti-Linux and you'll get moderated to oblivion.

I've never gone to the G4 site, but I'd wage dollars to donuts that it has the same problem & you just haven't noticed it. Heck, you even suggested using it for negative purposes (modding down posts you don't agree with).

Thank you, guys, for giving me 200 episodes to help make the workday go faster (though I think playing the drinking game would be frowned upon in the office...but might lead to some interesting satellite designs...). Loved that you put the first episode on the end. I've been listening since episode 1, but I had definitely forgotten how different the cast is now than it was then.

I really like the new logo, props to WhipSmartBanky. But I have to agree, it seems that Wombat has been taking some forearm 'roids.

I also have to agree with the general disinterest for Mario Galaxy. It wasn't that it was bad, but I have felt like (especially lately) I've really enjoyed the throwback to the 2-D platforming in New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros Wii. For some reason, after Super Mario 64, the 3-D Mario really didn't do it for me.

Question for Ship - what obscure games have you been playing lately? I think the first "random" gem you put me onto was Etrian Odyssey. Anything random out lately that you'd recommend?

Question for all 3 of you - Do any of you have any interest in Mod Nation Racers? I kind of like kart-racing games, so I'm thinking it could be a nice diversion, especially if it comes down in price.

Thanks again, guys.

I hate listening to CheapyD hating on GTA4. GTA4 has awesome graphics, great story, great multiplayer , and the DLC is worth the money. Saints Row 2 is a copy of GTA: San Andreas and all the glitches. Pleas pull your hand out of THQ's ass and get back to reality. PS: Red Faction sucks

Good show guys! Congrats on 200th show. Too bad I can't play the drinking games since I listen to the show at work 99% of the time.

Wombat, Singstar Queen was a music game with a gay male lead. Not sure if it's the first, but it might be. Although rather than plastic instruments, it's just the microphone. Still counts.

I totally agree that Saints Row is a rip off. It's all fun and shit like the GTA games before 4. What a total RIP!!!!

Saints Row gives you fun extra shit to do unlike GTAIV which is its own ground breaking game. It said to hell with all those fun side missions! We're just going to make the player babysit some NPCs and do boring shit like bowling and shoot pool in between doing wack ass escort missions that don't advance the story a single iota.

Dear CAG Crew,

Thanks for 200 episodes of epic gaming podcast enjoyment. Love the new CAG logo which I think is a great change to the "look" of the CAGcast. Wombat your new threads look great!

A few words to each of the CAG Crew:

Wombat - You take lots of crap from from us listeners and I thank you for staying on as Cheapy's right hand man through it all. I personally think you have the best sense of humor of the group and without you I feel many of the laughs would be gone.

Shipwreck - As the newest addition to the CAGcast crew I want to thank you for being a part of my driving commute and for sharing your life with us listeners. Your knowledge of games is beyond that of mere mortals and I'm glad your on our side. I mourn for the loss of CAGforeplay but if we get you in exchange I'm more than happy.

CheapyD - Thanks for going along with Wombat's idea to start the CAGcast 200 CAGcasts ago. And thanks for creating cheapassgamer.com which is the reason any of this was possible. Your Howard Stern inspired show creates moments that I love and love not as much but taken as a whole makes for a very entertaining and often times very funny show. Look forward to many more laughs and good times with you and the CAG crew.

GTA IV made me feel like I was playing a game where the main protagonist was Jason Statham in disguise. It might have been, who knows.

Saints Row 2 was stupid fun, but fun nonetheless. And from what i've seen, RDR is like a combination of Gun and GTA. Hopefully it's as fun as everyone makes it seem. It sure looks like it. Even the long, empty horse journeys (Without fast travel, of course. Where's the fun in not killing time?)

Scooter on the 1UP podcasts, for one . . .

Love your Silmarillion username, by the way.
Hey Wombat... Why is your CAG avatar naked while your CAGcast logo and Twitter avatars have clothes?
Do you like being naked in the CAG forums? hehe...
Wombat's CAGcast logo and twitter avatar have learned the sin of shame.

Wombat-
I'm a lefty and I'm fine playing the Wii. I have no problems using my right thumb, it's about no different than playing an FPS.
The only game I really felt I had problems with was with No More Heroes, trying to pull off the wrestling moves, yet that still wasn't much of a problem after I was able to tell my mind to reverse the controls.

-So stop bitching:
Love you!

How are the Guitar Hero/Rockband guitars controllers not a console peripheral? And, how are they not successful?

If you mean console specific, sure, no success there. But guitars? Definitely successful.

And the mention of 10 bundled games with Natal? It will be just like the 10 bundled games that come with the Move, and the 10 bundled games that already come with the Wii.

I wish you guys would comment on Nintendo's bundling strategy--getting Motion Plus into every Wii sold puts Nintendo at parity with Sony on everything but HD. As far as HD goes, Nintendo has made it clear they aren't interested, and this likely makes their net profit even higher since they don't have to load their box with HD hardware.

I agree with Wombat, that there should be no more talk about Move and Natal ever again. It will just be a cluster fuck--it just hurts to watch MS and Sony chasing around Nintendo trying to say "look, we wiggle too" and its embarrassing as hell because it makes it obvious that their executives have no idea what the hell they are doing. MS should continue to push the shit out of Live and educate parents on parental controls, and Sony should just keep pushing Blu-Ray and their upcoming 3D fad--they need to stop putting lipstick on pigs and saying its sexy,
I can't believe enough people listen to this that they made 200 of them? Ugh, CAG's podcast is horrible.
Wow, we've really gone down hill since you said this 9 episodes ago...
You guys do a great job with the podcast, I look forward to it each week and it's the only podcast I listen too. I love to hear Wombat's insights on the gaming industry even if his opinions sometimes, though not often, are opposite of my own.
Haahaa
Shipwreck...that was awesome.

Congrats on the 200th episode guys! The CAGcast has gotten me through a lot of really boring days at work. Thanks! :)

Congrats on your 200 episode. I've only been listening for awhile, but I have heard other podcasts which pale in comparison to to the Cagcast. If there was a class on how to make a podcast, this would be the pinnacle of what to do right. A few personal stories, video game talk, insightful opinions and a lot of laughs. I can listen to an older episode from months ago and still get a chuckle, that my friends is a sign of a great show. Here's to more poop stories from Cheapy, Bill Cosby impressions from Wombat, and more, well just more Shipwreck. Thanks for giving me a podcast, I love.
