I think a finance forum would be great, the only thing that makes me nervous about it is this question right here. If it's just a means for your friend to push financial products and services, then I don't think I would recommend you adding the forum. If it really is just another forum then I see no reason not to.
I liked the discussion you guys had about buying a console when the game you actually want to play is out. 100% agree. I often see people buying a console to "get ready for" game xyz, it's never made sense to me. That just leads to disappointment until that game comes out, and even worse if that game turns out to not meet expectations.
