CAGLS: Madden 13 Gentlemen's League - We Finished! Thanks for Playing!
Are we still advancing today? I just replied to a PM about when we can play the Broncos Texans game, and we're hoping to get it in tonight.

On another note, I was looking through the teams yesterday and there are some hilarious coach names.
Responded to your PM, that time sounds perfect tonite dude! See ya at 8 cst

It's going to be a fun game. When we played last year I think I barely got away with the win.

Also I just looked, and I guess I am the number one offense in the league. I never would have guessed that.

Hana because that's not intimidating at all! Lol

Had to play my week 3 game against the cpu because the Raiders' owner is out of town. Not upset about that, but the game itself went badly. I feel as though the computer really had it out for me. It seems as though I could have done everything right, but the cpu woud have still come out on top. Hate that..

Wow this games was insane.. Chargers barely hold on to win 24-19. I'll just talk about the ending drive..he has no time outs and theres under a minute...he gets somewhere around the 50(I forget exactly where.. I think he might have been in my territory) Like 7 seconds left so one more chance for a bomb. He throws it deep, its incomplete but I got a fucking pass interference call with 1 second left! I rarely get mad, but yeah...that pissed me off. So hes at my five..im scrambling to pick a play...he throws it and his guy catches it and it looked like it was a touchdown but they said it wasn't. I actually thought he did score....not that I was complaining haha...hell of a game Aft3rSh0ck.

Yeah I hate playing the CPU for that reason as well. Sorry I couldn't have played, even if I would've lost I always want to be in control of my team vs having EA AI control it.
yeah it was a crazy ending, that roughing the passer penalty killed me. Damn computer. That was a great game shotgunshine.
Yeah, there were some heartbreaking calls/plays. That interception you got on my first drive that cost me a touchdown killed me.

Yeah i got lucky, i just so happened to see your guy out their by himself so i grabbed my lb and he pulled off a "through the other guy's hand" interception. I got lucky on that one.

But the rate im going, i should have one of the top picks come draft time :)

Oh and then right before halftime, i was almost positive i was mashing the timeout button with 1 second left. I dont know why i ran it. Bad call on my part. But like i said, one hell of a game.

Hello everyone. It is really unfortunate, but I have to drop out of this league. I had a bunch of unexpected expenses pop up, and a lot of games and blurays had to go to cover them, including Madden. Feel free to give my spot to someone on the waiting list. If I can get a copy of the game again sometime, I can check back in here again to see what is going on then.
I'd love to see a video of that last play. Sounds crazy!
Yup, too bad we can't save replays online anymore. Remember how last year, uploading replays completely screwed up the Franchise website? I guess EA couldn't figure out how to fix that, so the easier solution was just to remove uploading replays altogether, lol.

Great game last night in Denver!

Broncos - 28
Texans - 21

Very strong showing for the Broncos, and they take away their first win of the year. Great game doc, I fear playing you in the future.

I was just gonna post man! LOL, Yea great game! Very respectful game. Once again TURNOVERS KILLED ME, I had you 7-0 and stuffed you at the goal line inthe first quarter to get the ball back. I thought, man this may be my game! NEXT PLAY freaking Spiller fumbled going up the middle and gives you the ball at the 15. It was downhill for me from there!

GREAT GAME MAN, Ill see ya in the future big guy!

Doesn't work for league games. They don't even give an option to view replays

Well, I'm done with this league. After playing blade and seeing some questionable tactics I have come to the conclusion that this league is no better than playing against random people online. Hopefully you guys don't encounter what I witnessed.

I'm sorry but what was I doing?

I ran the ball up the middle and to the outside. I threw slants and curls as I throw picks if I try to do anything else.

You quit the game on me at the end of the 3rd.

Be specific
Yea please explain further. And if he really is playing like a jerk we'll put him and you can stick around.
Seems I played perfectly fine last season. I think he is upset cause he only had 56 yards rushing and -4 receiving. I can't help it my defense was coming up big, and he couldn't stop my offense. I played no differently then when I have played anyone else in this league this year or last (DVO, pitfall, n8, Doc, etc).

I have no problem discussing it right now.

I ran with Jacobs anywhere on the line/middle, I ran with my 4th string guy to the outside. Frank Gore, and Kendall Hunter are both hurt, I had to switch them out according to their strengths (mainly playing each in specific packages). I threw short passes of slants and curls mainly, maybe 1 or 2 deep throws. I limit my passes mainly to short cause I have a tendency to throw picks which I threw one even throwing short. My strength is my ability to run the ball which I think most people from last year know, I am not very good at passing the ball.

I never went for it on 4th. I never squib or onside kicked the ball. I never went 5 wide and ran with my QB. Anything else?

So people want to quit cause I am playing to my strengths?

It has nothing to do with the fact that I was losing. Last week I had my ass handed to me and was perfectly ok with that because my opponent didn't abuse the game. Just to clarify the thing that pissed me off with you was the fact that your using the same running play to the poit that your abusing a major flaw in the game. I literally blitzed with every player and I still couldn't stop you. That's what has me so pissed off.

Also don't act like you used a combo of passes and runs because you didn't. Overall you called maybe 6 passes.

I didn't call the same play, I varied plays from the outside and inside. On the outside I never ran it backwards, I angled forward or even. If you think I am running to the outside don't stack the box in a 4-3 and rush, go dime or a sub that way you have more players on the outside, simple as that.

James had 18 attempts, only used for rushes on the outside
Jacobs had 10 attempts, only used for rushes on the line
Smith was 7 for 11

Obviously I leaned a little more to running to the outside, and rushing in general cause that is my strength. However, playing a variety of plays is what keeps a defense guessing. It's called play calling, and changing plays at the line. I am sorry you feel like it wasn't fair.

Man Blade has run all over me for the past 15 years in LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE GAME WE PLAY!!! He beats me in everything...seriously! He is a heavy runner with the RB and he is dominant with pretty much any RB you give him. That being said he has been trying to incorporate more passing and seeing as how I play him more than ANYONE IN the league I can personal vouch for him and say that though he doesnt do your standard cross/cut and deep routes he plays smart. Short curls to decrease the chance of interception and has ALWAYS ran it to the outside. Is it questionable...NO....he is playing the game with respect, never runs up the score and always tries to do the honorable thing. To me you are the dick for quitting after a beating and not being able to finish a game and actually say hey man, GG. Instead you get on here, complain, WITHOUT EXPLAINING YOURSELF and quit at the same time.

When you say questionable tactics/play I think you are the one who needs to take a look. Im the TEXANs and right now im 1-2. Yea I get pissed and yes I throw a ton of pics but I dont quit a damn game because of it!

Well thanks for the condescending tone. I've said what I had to say best of luck to the rest of you Gentlemen.
Edit: One more thing this league needs to fix is when two people are trying to have a discussion everyone needs to just keep their opinions to themselves. if your not apart of it I am sure blade can defend himself.

I think hes pissed because your smart and can read a defense? I know you do that to me all the time. By show of hands....OR SHAQFU thingy's (someone please tell me how to do that?)would anyone here would run STRAIGHT INTO A BLITZ or a stacked box on D for that matter?
Well thanks for the condescending tone. I've said what I had to say best of luck to the rest of you Gentlemen.
AHAHAH THANKS FOR THE CONDESCENDING TONE from the guy who says "BLADE A DICK and I dont want to try and explain why so I quit during the game because he was running the ball to the outside when i stacked the box with D line and LB's. How dare he exploit the one weakness in the game I have no control over.....WAIT!"

Edit: I appologize for being brash gentlemen. I am normally fairly quiet and always respectable (EVEN WHEN I LOSE...BAD) so I do appologize for saying what I said to those of you who may not like what I said. However I cannot stand ignorance and the above comment from him is, to me, the epitom of ignorance.
Well thanks for the condescending tone. I've said what I had to say best of luck to the rest of you Gentlemen.
I'd like you to stay in the league. I just think you saying my play calling is questionable or unfair is not true. I'm not trying to attack you, just post the facts of the way I play the game.

I played Blade week 1 and I didnt have any issues....

Yea he ran a lot, but it was effective, so why not?

Gore was killing it until I knocked him out of the game.

Instead of mass blitzing, pick a LB and lock on the RB? Seems fairly simple of a task, and not an exploit.

The thing about Madden is it takes a LONG time to master the play calling and the defensive adjustments. If you're not shifting your DL/LB, audibling a corner or safety to blitz, etc. the good players will just dominate you. You can either come in here and ask for help with learning to stop the run, or you can quit and never get any better. If he's running hte ball all over you, at least you know what's coming, right?

It's just a matter of finding the right play call and making the right adjustments to get people in the right position to stop it. It's up to you if that's an endeavor you want to take on to improve your game. But I definitely wouldn't consider running the ball to be a "ranked tactic". I agree that the AI doesn't do a good job working together or taking the right angles...but that's why your play calling has to be that much better. If you don't make the adjustments yourself, you'll get run out of the building. That's how Madden has always been.

If you'd like advice on how to better stop the run, you're welcome to stay. That was the entire reason for why this league was created. It wasn't to just beat the shit out people and prove how big your e-dick is. It's to help people get better. It was stated numerous times last year that anyone unwilling to share tips to help people get better is not welcome here. But it's up to you to make use of those resources. But quitting is just going to leave you no better off than where you started.

You must have missed the public message part then. You want to have a private conversation, there's a way to do that. You're dragging someone through the mud in front of the rest of the league, they should get involved.

Not that I've gotten a ton of offers on him, but since I'm negotiating a contract extension on Victor Cruz, I figured I should put out a fair warning. Once I resign him he's off the trade market.

That's not really the best way to defend against the outside run (in my opinion of course). Corners and safeties are much easier to block than front 7 players. Well executed outside run plays will abuse the dime in my experience, especially if the player is patient with their blocks.

With practice, you can definitely learn to stop the outside run from your base defense (I tend to prefer 4-3, but the same principle applies with 3-4). A few tips that might help:

 • Re-blitz your defensive ends straight down, or even put them in QB contain. This will help to prevent them from getting caught blocked by the guards or on the inside hip of the tackles. You typically want your ends on the tackles on outside runs so you don't have to worry about them blocking your linebackers.
 • Learn to be comfortable user-ing all three (or four) linebackers. Practice pursuit after the snap religiously. Don't just crash into the line on the play, learn to run behind the LOS until you see an opening to crash down on the back. It helps to have faster linebackers for this, but if you've got good reflexes even slower ones can chase down backs with good lateral movement. You can also do this with a safety, though I tend to prefer the linebacker.
 • Don't be afraid to over-pursue with whatever defender you're controlling. What you're trying to prevent is the back getting outside (and then behind) your defense. Even if you over-pursue, you can still force them to cut back into the teeth of the D.
 • Play-calling does matter. If you're running a lot of cover-2 looks with your safeties, try a cover-1 instead with the shorter safety playing to the side you expect the run. This will give you an extra player in run support and also a safety valve if the back beats your initial pursuit.
Of course, these strategies might not fit what everyone is comfortable with, but with practice they're extremely effective against the run. They work for me anyway.

Edit: Thought of one more important one.

 • If you're going to blitz your linebackers on what you think will be a run, I'd highly recommend doing so manually so you can adjust once the play bounces outside. If you have linebackers blitzing up the middle and being gobbled up by the interior line, they're completely out of the play once the back gets outside the tackle box (even if they beat their blockers, they're in no position to make a play). Now you're trying to catch the back with corners and safeties, not a recipe for success.
