Calculate your Wii costs

If all goes according to plan I hopefully won't be paying anything out of pcoket.

If I got absolutely everything I wanted at launch however, $502.84.

I'm either going to by an HDTV this Holiday season or a Wii. I have decided that if I can find a good HDTV for $250-$300 then I'll get that but otherwise, its:
Wii Console
Zelda
$318.73
I might buy Red Steel, Madden, or Call of Duty 3 depending on reviews. And I would love a retro controller/wii point pack in deal. So its basically wait and see for me right now.
Same with me (although I'm wating to see the price of an S video cable, since my TV only has 1 set of composite imputs and I don't want to buy a box that will give me more). I also want to find out if the classic controller works with Gamecube games.
Yeah, that'd be cool.

Someone mind confirming this for me: the GC controller is only compatible with GC games, right? So we can't use it for VC titles or Wii titles...or am I mistaken? I remember hearing like, what, last year that Smash Bros would support the GC controller, but I've recently heard that it's changed.

Probably not the best thread to ask that question, but it's part of the process I'll use to decide to buy a classic controller or not.

I don't think they've officaly released all the details of how all these controllers will or won't work, save that the GC controller will NOT work with the Wii version of Zelda.

If I had to guess I'd say that the GC controller will work with VC stuff, but that's purely a guess. I think the GC controller would work better for the N64 games than the classic controller though. I have issues with that left tyhumbstick just like the Dual Shock. I like it up like the Cube/Xbox/DC pads.

I don't think anything has changed as far as SBBB working with the GC controller. It should be compatible. If that HAS changed, then I would assume the classic controller would work.

$495.96, including tax+discount on everything but the Wii system.

-Wii system
-Remote
-Nunchuck
-Classic controller
-Zelda
-Trauma Center
-Red Steel
-2000 VC points
This tool sucks for Tennessee users. I'm not sure when the state sales tax was 6%, but I know it hasn't been for 6+ years.
Well the tool only lets you select your state, so it doesn't take into account your local option sales tax. I know that depending on what county I end up buying my Wii in my sales tax is going to be 1-2% higher.
$407.51

Wii
Zelda
Red steel
Wii Classic Remote
1000 Wii Points
Are you going to be able to buy Wii points in 1000 increments? I thought the minimum you had to purchase was 2000.

Wii + Zelda = $324

Compared to just Zelda a month later = $54 -->

Going to be a tough decision...I really want to play MP3, SSBB, and Mario, but who knows how long it will take for them to come out after launch...

$395.53

Wii, extra controller combo, 500 Wiipoints, Zelda.
Did I miss something about the component cables? Are they sold seperately?

Estimated at $60 a pop. I think ill just stick with the composite for that if they arent included.

$360.37
-Wii w/ wiisports
Retro Controller
-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or Red Steel
2000 Wii points

I definatly want to get Wii with a game, preferably Zelda. The rest I can just wait for.

shit

TOTAL
$429.95 (without tax)

TOTAL
$461.12 (with tax)

Thats just the console, 3 games, retro controller, and 1000 points. Ill eventally get those component cables and another controller which will be ~100-120 right there.

Damn... I didn't realize that controllers were $40 + $20 for the nunchuck?

It's already 318 for me without anything besides wii+ zelda...

I really don't want to raise the price up to almost $400 with the inclusion of another controller and nunchuck...

wii + wii remote + wii nunchuk + retro controller + metal slug anthology + red steel + zelda: TP + trauma center + 7% sales tax = $567.01

damn.

my wife is gonna be pissed.

oh well, ill go buy her a shiny rock or something. she'll forget all about it.

The Wii calculator indirectly aided in my recent purchase of a 360.

I priced out a 360 Premium bundle with an extra controller and Dead Rising at Overstock under the 15% Off deal and kind of let it be, as tempting as it was. However, in browsing around, I realized that the 360 package I had just priced out for myself came $30 under my planned Wii purchase (bundle + TP + extra Wiimote + 2 nunchucks + Classic Controller + 2000 VC points).

In what I think is a fair comparison, my planned Wii package minus the VC points and Classic Controller, the 360 deal cost almost exactly the same as the Wii deal. So why was the 360 so cheap (or the Wii so expensive)? The 15% Off deal came from Overstock, so I didn't have to pay any tax either. And shipping was only $2.95.

Even though I blew my Wii cash on the 360, I'm still planning on getting a Wii. I'll just have to wait until just before or just after the holiday. So when I finally get the Wii, I will not only be thankful for a new Mario and for VC games, I'll also be grateful to the Wii for selling me on that 360 deal.
Why are you planning on having two Wiimotes and 3 nunchuks? The system comes with a remote AND nunchuk.
Oops. I thought that the Wii Sports Bundle came with console, cables, game, and wiimote. Thanks for the heads-up. Saved me $20, and makes the Wii package I had planned a little more affordable.

$455.74 ~ $500

Wii System
Wiimote (Will purchase Wii Play if the Wiimote buncle is offered here)
Nunchuck
Retro Controller (Will purchase 5000 VC points if the bundle is offered here)
Zelda

Mine came out to 349.77, but what's wrong with the state tax, Tennessee's is way higher than the site says, it's really 9.25%

Man I'm still on the fence because I hardly play video games that much, but I'm such a whore when it come to shiney new electronic gadgets. Ugh! well I do have money left from not buying any textbook this semester...decisions,decisions. I do like the idea of just replacing my gamecube though.

I'm planning on buying the Wii, Zelda and Red Steel. Total Cost: $371.84. I figure I'll start with that and then during Christmas Break, when I'll be working and have more time to play, I'll buy an extra set of controllers for my brother and some more games, like Madden and Call of Duty 3, depending on what gets good reviews.. And hopefully Wario Ware.

I know that this website is CAG and we are all CAGs, but by paying MSRP on all this new Wii games make us not CAGs, it makes us PFFGAG(Payer Fully For Games Ass Gamer)

I doubt any of us getting this on launch day is gonna get burned at the stake. It's ok to break that cheapass vow every new and then if you absolutely must have something when it first comes out.

True enough. And really, a true CAGer would only get a Wii, not a 360 or a PS3.

Oh, no! I WENT there! Did ya see dat?! And with the FORMATTING and EVERYTHING!

In all seriousness, though, there's a balance to be struck here. Getting games cheaply is awesome, and there are a number of Wii titles that I'm not going to pay $50 for but will wait for a price drop. But, nothing supports a company / product better than buying at full price. You just have to decide which games are worth your money--which you want to support, and end up picking up the chaff to try later.

Actually it makes us early adopters. Who said there won't be deals to be had? Sam's Club always packs in a few extras for your buck with the system. You can use Gamer Gift Cards at BB on every single purchase(system, extra wiimote, games, etc). $5 may sound like a drop in the bucket, but if you buy a system, an extra Wiimote, nunchuck, and two games, & component cables you've already saved $30.

So not all of us will be paying full price. ;)

Just to clarify, the GGC coupon can not be used for game systems -- just games and accessories.

$370.97

Nintendo Wii
Zelda TP
Red Steel

I have Zelda and Red Steel paid in full. If EB is taking preorders on friday, I will pay the Wii in full. I would buy a classic controller and a 2000 wii points card, but I need a USB adaptor first and I have to see what nintendo is charging for that (because I live in a college dorm with no wifi).

2 GB SD card - dell.com $25.86
Nintendo Wii - amazon.com $249.99
Zelda Twilight Princess - familyvideo.com $40.89
Red Steel - familyvideo.com $38.96
Trauma Center - familyvideo.com $42.88
Assuming it all works out, $398.58

Added: Excite Truck - familyvideo.com $39.51

I'm just getting the system and Zelda at launch. I'll add in other games later because I already know that Zelda is going to take up all my time for a few weeks.
