I haven't played a game in a while and I have the desire to fight other giant robots in a big ass city and blow some shit up. I didn't have a PS2 until last year, so I'm not sure what's good and what isn't so much, but I want something more arcade-like and less like a simulation. There's about 5000 Gundam games here in Japan but I have no idea which ones are good and which ones aren't, and I've heard the Armored Core series is hard as fuck if you haven't been playing and pretty simulation-y...I'm just a casual video game player, so I don't think it'll really be my thing.

I'm interested in a somewhat speedy third-person action-y game, preferably with some destructible environments...so, let me have 'em!

Best I can think of top of my head is Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner, RAD (Robotic Alchemaic Drive if i remember correctly), and War of the Monsters (big honkin robot and monster fighting game action from the people who brought you the good Twisted Metal games and God of War.

You definitely want Robot Alchemic Drive. Giant ass robots fighting in a city, and everything can be destroyed. Also a lot of fun as well.

I say go for RAD. I enjoy the AC series, but I've been playing it since first one...controls can be hard but the sheer amount of customization is awesome.

Ive always been a big fan of the Armored Core series. Theres about 40 different AC games on the ps2 to choose from, and many of them are cheap.

thanks for the recommendations so far guys, keep em coming!

i'll definitely check out RAD (i know it came out in japan but i'm not sure if i've seen it)

zone of the enders 2 looks cool, but i've heard it's really short and it's mostly hand-to-hand...but i'll check that out as well.

i've played armored core 4 for xbox360 and really liked it, but i've heard it was dumbed down and sped up compared to the ps2 versions...any idea which one i would like if i like the xbox360 version?

oh, and has anybody played any of the ACE games or other gundam ones? i might try and pick up the one that's in the arcade here.

The best Gundam game I've played is Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam. Also its prequel, Federation vs. Zeon, is good as well.

I'd recommend Metal Wolf Chaos. It's developed by the creators of Armored Core, but it's very arcade-y and has a great B-grade storyline: you play the President of the United States, Michael Wilson, who is Public Enemy No. 1 after being betrayed by the Vice-President. The voiceovers are completely in English, so there's no barrier to playing.

One caveat: the game is only for the original Xbox. Still, if you find it, it must be, what, 500 Yen?

does anyone know a good place to get RAD? ive seen this game mentioned before and can recall a review of it on xplay but havent heard much about it aside from the occasional post.

Good God Almighty. You weren't kidding.

I recently got a used copy at Gamestop - they're in the discount bin and can be purchased for pretty cheap.

thanks for the heads up. theres one nearby where i live so i'll check it out.
btw i checked their online stores and they have Rad used for 9.99. as always with their used stuff online theres no gaurantee you'll get the instructions or the original box but if anyone else is lookign for it its there.

Thanks for all of the recommendations, guys. Zone of the Enders 2 is pretty expensive here, but #1 is only 280 yen (!). In the end, I got Macross and Another Century's Episode and love em both (although I wish there were more destructible environments).

my used copy of rad came in today from ebgames complete with instructions and original box and boxart. if you use that 25 percent off code the game will cost you roughly $7.49 and you can choose the shipping you want.
