Can anyone help me with buying a digital camera?

Ive got electronics galore...but ive never really got into cams and im looking to buy one for my wife and totally lost.

I been checking around and while some things i do know, im not sure whats sufficient for casual use and whats not.Now Im eyeballing a Canon 10 megapixel cam from CC, and im curious if anyone here by chance has it. Does it take photos quick? What else should i know or look for in a cam?

I seen a Sony Cybershot 7.2 i believe and it mentioned its used HD support, now ive got 3 HD sets so im sure id like to use this feature, but do most cams work good in HD hookups or does it clearly have to list it?

Any opinions and advice is much appreciated!

Canon Digital Elph, can't go wrong. Or even the regular Powershot models. Those are just as good for casual use.

When shopping, ignore digital zoom (and when you get the camera, disable it completely). Optical zoom multiplier is better. But do yourself a favor and test them out at Circuit City but ultimately buy it off a site like Amazon or those various camera stores price search engines will bring up. Even during a sale (or a bankruptcy dumpoff) Circuit City are ripoff artists.

I'd get the DSC-T500, since it has HD (720p) video recording. I've got the DSC-T100, and had the DSC-T1 before that. Both have been good to me.

For point and shoot I have a Sony dsc-w90. For stuff requiring a better cam I have the Sony Alpha A200 DSLR. Both of them are excellent cameras and take very nice pics.

I'd read that if you're really interested in that camera. I personally wouldn't buy it, but that's because I'm a sucker for Sony products, so my opinion is biased.

Can you post a pic or two so i can see how good the pics are from those Sony models?

Also can they take good shots of like games while on screen, i been wanting a cam that can do that for some shots of my tv in action, or just still shots rather, but can these cams do that, is there a special mode that is made for taking those kind of shots?

Canon PowerShot SD series are the best for casual use. Easy to use and great quality. Plus they come with multiple settings that you can switch to (indoors, night, etc.). They are also very compact.

Do most cams in low light settings, in the LCD screen, have like an artifact look too it? Is that just a common thing so to speak with how the digital cams are and seeing the view through the LCD in a low light?

the pics are nice. Trust me. I won't post them cause the w90's are a little over 2mb and the a200's are around 5mb
