Can anyone recommend good anti-virus software?

My subscription to my anti-virus (McAfee) is set to expire in 2 weeks and I do not want to install their 2007 version as I heard it was crap and causes a lot of trouble with your system, such as overuse of your PC resources, is a bear to install/un-install, etc. I have heard similar stories with people who have Norton, but I don't know about their 2007 version.

Can anyone recommend a brand that they are happy with? Plus, it has to be available with a three user license and at a reasonable price. Thanks.

You can give AVG Antivirus Free Edition a try. It's free and there's no subscription based services.

I've been using AVG for about four years now. I've never had any problems with it and it does its job well. I highly recommend it.

That one or Nod32 are good for a paid solution.


I use AVG and am perfectly content with. As long as you are careful with what you download on your system, you should be fine.

I've used a lot of them, including AVG, Norton, Panda and I can say that NOD32 is the best. My computer actually can start up now in less than an hour unlike when I was using norton and panda.

Also I suggest avast. It seems more fluid than AVG.

I was wondering the same thing last week. Found this article that rates the best Antivirus apps, all of which were tested by Virus.gr with 147,000 different viruses and rates them with the % of detection. Kaspersky did the best with 99.62%. Although, Nod32 did the best by detecting viruses that weren't in the database:
