Can I still return an item to Amazon?

Last time I ordered two games from Amazon and received a $40 credit. One of the two games came with the disc not in its proper place, so there must be scratches all over disc. Anyway, I have used the $40 credit toward a game already and it will ship sometimes next week.

I want to exchange the defected item back to Amazon, can I do that without affecting the $40 credit that I have used?

call up their customer service...they will probably send you a new copy and have you mail the other one back. Just make sure you mail your end back, or they charge you the retail price within 30 days, I believe
