Can someone explain this to me? is it possible to get a raincheck if the game is in stock? Can I goto Target and look at the games in the ad, see which aren't in stock and ask for a raincheck? how would I know which one is worth most, since I don't want to ask for like 3...

first you have to run around target naked then they hand you the raincheck.. best place to check on prices is like ebgames... Target webpage is wacked .. You cant get a raincheck for a game that is in stock (some have but i have no clue how )

this is how you do it.

First look at ad
Drive to target see what games are on sale and out of stock
Ask for rain check

Repeat

The trick at Target is that they have a "Substitution Policy" You can use a raincheck to get the same percentage discount on another item of the same type. Videogame out-of-stock? Get a different videogame.

I think you could get a raincheck without the game being out by requesting one at a register with the proper product code (if you can find it) for the game.

I got a few rainchecks when they had Final Fantasy X-2 on sale for $16.88 (down from $30) and they were good for 44% off of games.

So I bought Sly 2 for $23 and Pikmin 2 for $28 and Donkey Konga for $28 . . . you get the idea.

You just ask for a raincheck and then substitute another item . . . the employees may hassle you a bit . . . but it is the store policy.

Yeah.

Sometimes they'll put little raincheck booklets in the shelf slot where the game used to be, which makes it easier to spot.

They expire about a month, month and a half, after the date they're processed.

You can't get a raincheck for something that's IN STOCK. This is covered in the freshman class: Common Sense 101.

Jesus, can we get a sticky or something for people who can't use the search feature ? It seems like every week someone can't figure this one out and won't bother to read up on the subject before posting. This one and the BB gamer's Gift Card.

Uh oh, I feel another question coming soon..........

Sorry, I'm not trying to be an asshole, it just kinda happens naturally.

I just think this is way more annoying than the "in before the lock" posts.

I was thinking the same damn thing. Every two weeks there is a post like this. There should be some sort of page that contains the universal constants of deals i.e. BB GGC card, Target Raincheck, etc. Just make a page with how they work, sticky it, and lock it.

well until then, you can expect these types of topics. your not obligated to click on it, read it, and respond. save urself the time and typing and dont click on it.
well until then, you can expect these types of topics. your not obligated to click on it, read it, and respond. save urself the time and typing and dont click on it.
Ah, so ignoring the problem is the answer.

I think that something should be done about it, which is why I offered what I thought to be a reasonable solution.
well until then, you can expect these types of topics. your not obligated to click on it, read it, and respond. save urself the time and typing and dont click on it.
Well, until you can muster the brainpower to figure out a simple policy like a raincheck, you can save us the headaches brought on by explict displays of idiocy by not posting.

Doesn't sound very nice, does it? However, that's the exact tone you're taking with these people.

no im just saving the complainers the frustration of doing what theyre doing: clicking this topic only to post a complaint. i completely understand that there are topics like this up all the time. i was only curious as to how it worked because i never bothered to read about, and was merely helping the original poster as well as informing myself. this is what forums are all about. if u dont like the topic, u dont have to click on it. ive been hear a long time. longer than either of u, and have seen plenty more topics come and go then any of those that attacked my simple post. whether ive posted alot or not, ive always been around. u need to accept the fact that these are forums, there will always be new people joining, and there will always be questions like this asked. nobody is born knowledgable about everything.

no im just saving the complainers the frustration of doing what theyre doing: clicking this topic only to post a complaint.

Isn't that "to little, to late?" The majority of the discontent was voiced long before you made that comment.

i completely understand that there are topics like this up all the time. i was only curious as to how it worked because i never bothered to read about, and was merely helping the original poster as well as informing myself.

That's fine, but to lash out after people have explained that to you is rather fruitless, and just makes you look even more foolish than them.

this is what forums are all about. if u dont like the topic, u dont have to click on it.

After you create a topic, you no longer have control over it. It can grow and change in whatever manner it sees fit. Considering that their complaints were actually on topic, you don't have all that much footing to mount a convincing assult on thier point of view.

ive been hear a long time. longer than either of u, and have seen plenty more topics come and go then any of those that attacked my simple post.

Time here, just like post count, doesn't really show all that much. The fact that you don't understand a topic that has been discussed to DEATH and been explained over and over and over strains any credibility you have when you try to claim superiority over any poster.
I know how to do it now, thanks.
That's great. At least something productive came out of this thread.
Good luck, el bobo, and don't trample too many clerks in your pursuit of a good deal :)

I understand that everyone is new once, I know I sure was. There was a time where I didn't understand the Target Raincheck or a lot of the other basic deals that get posted around here.

I never said that it was a bad question to get asked, all I stated was that it was a question that has been answered a lot before. We have an faq that explains that GGC means Gamer Gift Card, but it doesn't explain what the Gamer Gift Card is or how it actually works. I'm saying that is a problem.

So, next time instead of insulting me and taking a condescending attitude that you are better than me (because you have been here longer, woopedy-fucking-doo), you can see that I merely stated that there should be a definitive answer to this question somewhere on the site, so that we don't see a post every two weeks about this.

like i said earlier, your raise a valid point that its been asked before, but its a message board. you see repeated topics all the time about all sorts of things...off the top of my head i can think of coupon codes. arent those displayed right on the front page? i believe so. now when a new member posts asking for some, you can either disregard his/her post cause it bothers you to see a simple question asked, or you can help them out and guide them in the right direction. its as simple as that. and like i said before, noone is born knowledgable about everything, and i never paid attention to the target rain check so for me to be hear as long as i have and after so long finally decide i want to know should be fully acceptable.

jsweeny, yea it can be considered too late, but then again i cant see into the future and predict that people are gonna get upset over a simple question. when i say saving them the frustation, i speak about saving them the frustration over similar things in the future. and i can comprehend that their complaints were in topic, but if ur gonna complain, y even click on the topic to get ur nerves riled up? and please read my post clearly before coming back with a response. in know way did i sw i was superior to anyone. i was simply pointing out the fact that ive been hear a long time and have seen many more repeated topics come and go. and i mention post count cause i had this feeling that someone may bring that up, which is really not of concern. and i stress the word please cause i am trying to be polite and dont want to start a war cause i dont want another gamefaqs. i want to keep this as a small discussion.

jsweeny, yea it can be considered too late, but then again i cant see into the future and predict that people are gonna get upset over a simple question.

I can. This will happen again, both here and everywhere on the internet.
It happens numerous times each day. Complaining about it in the manner you did only serves to prolong it.

when i say saving them the frustation, i speak about saving them the frustration over similar things in the future.

People have to want to change. Not to mention that the manner in which you stated your grievance was not very compelling at all.

and i can comprehend that their complaints were in topic, but if ur gonna complain, y even click on the topic to get ur nerves riled up?

More likely that not, most people did not get thier nerves riled up until after they read further into the thread. Being ignorant is one thing.. but you can learn. Of course, if it is something you've seen mentioned many, many times, it's often proper manners to search the archive to try to find the answer you want rather than start a new post to get immediate gratification. Of course, since it's rather rude to do so, you have to expect that you're going to catch some flack. Of course, being the third man in such as you were, and taking the postion you did only serves to exacerbate things.

and please read my post clearly before coming back with a response. in know way did i sw i was superior to anyone.

More is said in text than just the words rendered on the page. The wording, tone and context in which one posts also colors the passage as well. Trying to draw in some sort of metric (say, the date one joined) to prove one's worthiness is going to throw some heavy implications of superiority around.

i was simply pointing out the fact that ive been hear a long time and have seen many more repeated topics come and go. and i mention post count cause i had this feeling that someone may bring that up, which is really not of concern.

Having been here long enough, you should have known this is the way it works usually. If someone dreges up a questioned that has been asked and answered multiple times, they'll get thier answer, along with a good natured ribbing. This one got even murkier because tried to drag in your opinion that people should not answer threads they don't care for.

The thing is, if some people who ask redundant questions aren't made examples of, the practice would become ever the more accepted, and the board would be glutted with short threads full of redundant questions. Just go and check Gamefaqs if you want an example of that.

and i stress the word please cause i am trying to be polite and dont want to start a war cause i dont want another gamefaqs. i want to keep this as a small discussion.

For the most part, this thread has been polite. Just because things are polite, it doesn't mean that differences of opinion don't occur. That's actually one of the cornerstones of formalized argumentation.
Just look at a session of Congress or the recent presidential debates for an example of that.

if u insist you are correct, then so be it. i really dont need to argue with someone who doesnt understand the concept of forums. you really didnt read my post to quickly assume i was speaking in a superior tone. if u read clearly, u would see i made mention of seeing plenty more topics come and go. and never once did i go into a repeated topic and come down on the creator of the topic because its been asked before. if u want to speak of anyone being rude, speak to the initial complainers, because they were rude to the creator of the topic. rather than complaining about the topic, they could have either not clicked on the thread; or better yet they could have explained the raincheck to them, IN FEWER TEXT than it took them to unknot their panties.it all comes down to this: as in any other forum, whether it be here or anywhere else, there will always be new people. there will always be people repeating questions, and thats perfectly ok becuase its a MESSAGE BOARD. this is what message boards are for. complaining is perfectly ok on a message board as well, but it is really justified when they too were once a newby and most likely asked something that has been answered before?

if u insist you are correct, then so be it. i really dont need to argue with someone who doesnt understand the concept of forums.

An ad hominem attack on my intelligence is going to work wonders, eh?
What's next? A more mature stating of "I'm going to take my ball and go home?"
you really didnt read my post to quickly assume i was speaking in a superior tone.

You didn't watch your tone and wording close enough. :)
I didn't make you post in the manner you did.

if u read clearly, u would see i made mention of seeing plenty more topics come and go. and never once did i go into a repeated topic and come down on the creator of the topic because its been asked before.

You're just blindly lashing out just trying to hit on any tenable argument now, aren't you?

if u want to speak of anyone being rude, speak to the initial complainers, because they were rude to the creator of the topic.

Yep, flailling around in the dark, just trying to hit on something.

rather than complaining about the topic, they could have either not clicked on the thread; or better yet they could have explained the raincheck to them, IN FEWER TEXT than it took them to unknot their panties.

Whoa.. Deja vu. It seem rather ironic that in a thread obsessed with criticizing reduntancy that you keep repeating yourself.

it all comes down to this: as in any other forum, whether it be here or anywhere else, there will always be new people. there will always be people repeating questions, and thats perfectly ok becuase its a MESSAGE BOARD.

Someone link this guy to the "Posting and You" filmstrip, please.

this is what message boards are for. complaining is perfectly ok on a message board as well, but it is really justified when they too were once a newby and most likely asked something that has been answered before?

Yes, yes it is. Newbies are assimilated into the culture of the board, and with a site that has peaks and lulls of people joining, the long established posters maintain the community and direction of the board through proper chastisement and praise of newbies.
Giving newbies free riegn leads to chaos, especially in a system where order has already been imposed.

Remind me to never PO JSWeeney. Arguing a point is so much more enjoying to watch when people use real English with spelling, sentence structure and punctuation.

you seem to insist that you are right when you were never involved with the complaining. if u would put urself in the position of the complainers, and then read my posts it would make more sense. since u appear to have convinced urself that u r correct ill let it be, but like i said there is absolutely no need for a newbie to be talked down upon for asking a simple question. so y dont u talk to ur little buddies about their tone superiority over the newbie who asked an easily answerable question? ive said enough, i have cheap ass deals to worry about.

mobster011, you just need to stop digging a hole. At no point did I, or the other "complainer" say anything disparaging towards the OP. Our comments were solely directed at the phenomenon of repeat topics.

You on the other hand have been an asshole to just about everyone, while pretending that you are the champion of the little guy. At no point in this have I seen you offer any valuable information to the OP. I'm not saying I have in this topic, but I actually have contributed in the past. From what I can tell you just lurk and then complainn about people who want to alleviate problems that bug pretty much everyone.

Edit- For the love of god, graduate from the 3rd grade. Learn proper English syntax, grammar, capitalization, and spelling. Then come back here.

I dunno if I saw this saying in someone's sig here or somewhere else but I think it sums up this situation nicely:

Arguing w/ a stranger over the internet is like winning an event in the special olympics - you're still retarded

you seem to insist that you are right when you were never involved with the complaining.

That discredits me how? I fall to see the logic in that claim.

if u would put urself in the position of the complainers, and then read my posts it would make more sense.

Many things could help your post make more sense. Me being in the postion of those who were complaining is not one of them.

since u appear to have convinced urself that u r correct ill let it be, but like i said there is absolutely no need for a newbie to be talked down upon for asking a simple question.

Yes, there is. The board would get very tiring very quickly if every thread were "How do Gamerush deals work", "How does the Best Buy GGC worK" and "How do Target Rainchecks work". Stickies go a long way to cut this down, but just because a sticky doesn't exist that doesn't mean someone should just create a topic to get the answer they want before they run a search on the topic of interest, or check related topics.
It's just good nettiquite. Those who behave in a manner that is not consistant with the modus operandi of the boards do so at thier own peril.

Newbies are granted more lattitude in these matters, but at some point, they will draw the ire of the board as well. (Nevermind the fact that long time users have caught hell for making redundant thread).

so y dont u talk to ur little buddies about their tone superiority over the newbie who asked an easily answerable question?

The chastisement the OP got was warrented. He got his question answered, but he also got the proper chastisement for asking a question that has been asked and answered multiple times before.

ive said enough, i have cheap ass deals to worry about.
Yes, feel free to continue to leech between your occassional bouts of flaming.

Wow. A mature way of stating "I'm rubber, you're glue."?
Awesome. Let the five-year-old mentality hit parade continue!! :)

i was simply trying to back him up because its unnecessary to make his first few days terrible ones.

Do you even read the threads, or just the most recent post before you pop off? This point of contention has been asked and answered multiple times. Just because you restate it again doesn't mean the answers are going to change.

and graduate from the 3rd grade? i have a damn management position with commerce bank so dont speak to me about grammar and all that bs.

Yet the concept of capital letters still escapes you?
Do you know how much just simple capitaliztion and punctuation enhances readablity? Noone expects perfect grammar, but an effort towards at least being readable would be appreciated.

besides plenty of people type like this when u have aim, so ur argument about grammar is very unfounded.

Nope, this clearly invokes the logical fallacy of Argumentum ad populum.
Yet still, even after my statement, they argue
Well, yeah.
Do you think you're the first person to ever say that?
That saying has become so trite and cliched that it now only serves to exacerbate situations rather than to defuse them.

i didnt see your post before but im gonna be a bigger man and quit this.

There it is!
Let me paraphrase: "I'm taking my ball and I'm going home!"
:)

u r completely correct in ur statement and this is going nowhere.

That usually is what happens when you get redundant and try to argue in a circle.

but a message to newbies, dont put up with it when someone critisizes u for asking a question that may have already been answered before.

Newbies, please use the search function.
It is there for a reason, and not just to make the site look "professional".
Believe it or not, you don't need to always make a new thread to discuss a topic. Please do try to practice proper netiquette, the board will thank you, and so will I.

If you disregard this advice and do post a new topic every time you want an answer to a question, you will certainly get similar treatment to what the OP. Long time users still get chastised and ridiculed for doing the exact same thing.. it's not just you they are picking on... it's the practice.

And while yes it may be trite and cliche, it's still nonetheless true... "and I'm taking my toys and going home!"

Go ahead, I know you want to have the last word since my post count obviously doesn't compare to yours. I bow in mock obsequence

I'm sorry, but that phrase is the mother of all cop-outs.
It's what one says when they don't have anything very germane to say, and want to be an ass about things.
It's tasteless, crass, and adds absolutely nothing to the conversation.
While I may disagree with mobster011's point of view, and while I may be picking at some of his apparent weakness (the tone of this has more to do with the expected social norms of this board. If the expected behaviour was to be exceedingly polite and state arguments formally, I would have done so) I respect his right to have it.

There are much, much better ways to verbalize your sentiments.
Not to mention that it's the mother of all ad hominem fallacies.
Everyone in the thread's propositions are suspect because they are retarded? Yep, thats a sound logical conclusion.

Go ahead, I know you want to have the last word since my post count obviously doesn't compare to yours. I bow in mock obsequence
Sounds like someone has some adequecy issues.
So, does flaming me make you feel like a big man?
Good, glad to help :)

By the way, just as aside, I think you just ceaded the moral high ground the second you posted this reply.

Cheers

"That usually is what happens when you get redundant and try to argue in a circle."

haha dont think i was talking to u when i said u r correct. dont get that impression. i was agreeing with jaykrue, get over urself. and like i said, im being a bigger man and stopping this quarrel, but for some strange reason i feel ur gonna continue this until u get the last word. lol. im trying to end this petty dispute cause i cant stand gamefaqs, but i have this feeling ill come back to see uve posted again.

haha dont think i was talking to u when i said u r correct. dont get that impression. i was agreeing with jaykrue, get over urself.

You need to work on your reading comprehension.
It's blatantly obvious that you were telling jaykrue that you agreed with his statement. You then proceeded to say "this is going nowhere".

My statement obviously refers to the latter part of your statement.
Any reasonable person could see that.

So, would you perfer that I take the time to correct your posts, write them in a coherent manner, and THEN answer them?

and like i said, im being a bigger man and stopping this quarrel

You see, that tactic really loses it's viability when you're on the losing end of an argument.

but for some strange reason i feel ur gonna continue this until u get the last word. lol.

Hmm, so just because I read a thread and then reply to the posts that are specifically directed at me, I have some sort of vendetta against someone?
Wow, Sneaky Penguin, Deadzone, Whip Smart Banky and all of the other posters who've been around the board must REALLY hate my guts.

im trying to end this petty dispute cause i cant stand gamefaqs, but i have this feeling ill come back to see uve posted again.

Yet another invocation of the logical fallicy Argumentum ad Poplium, and a nice dose of Argumentum ad hominem. Nice. :)

Have an enjoyable evening and a great day tommorow :)

lol. i knew it. i will be sure to have a great day, tomorrow im not so sure about cause i have a calculus test to worry about on friday. thanks for caring :D
lol. i knew it. i will be sure to have a great day, tomorrow im not so sure about cause i have a calculus test to worry about on friday. thanks for caring :D
You said multiple times that you wanted to "be the bigger man", yet when I give you the perfect point to just let the thread die, or a point from which to let the argument end in a polite manner after clearing the salient issues remaining, but you had to get in one more insult and try to twist the knife.

Answers to points I raised in that post would be fair game, and completely acceptable, yet you had to continue your negative stance.

That's rather disengeneous of you.
haha. this is starting to get fun. i was simply responding to ur rather sarcastic "have a great evening and great day tomorrow."
Nope, If I were sarcastic, I would have used this smily.

It's all in the context. The devil's in the details, as they would say.

Wow, I would have thought by now everybody on this board would know better than to pick an argument with JSweeney.
