Can you actually be fired for being out sick so many times during the year?

... So why not say this is a gaming forum, not a "bitch about being threatened with termination for missing 1/4 of the work year" forum. If this is no place to call him stupid than this is no place for him to be stupid.
So just get off of his balls. This is a gaming forum, not a "Bash someone's problems because you think the OP measures the quality of Public Schooling in general" forum.
Wow, I'm going to say it.... I agree with Kayden.
So, let me guess. Everyone else other than the OP has great quality health insurance and stay super-healthy 100% of the time? Mis-diagnosis happens pretty often.

With the quality of health insurance and the amount of people without it, I'm suprised there isn't a goddamn epidemic of disease going around!

I feel bad for the OP, I mean, he is having pretty shitty luck with health problems. It might be an easy job, but when you are constantly sick no job is easy. I was sick for nearly a month at my previous job and I had the doctor sign everything to show them. (If i'm sick near food, it could be contaminated and customers could get sick.. you see where this is going).

Suck it up? Are you guys becoming more like your grandparents with the "Back in my day, I had to walk up hill 40 feet in the snow to get a glass of milk and I LIKED IT!".

So just get off of his balls. This is a gaming forum, not a "Bash someone's problems because you think the OP measures the quality of Public Schooling in general" forum.

This is a topic about sick days and law, not morals.

(I'm franky suprised on how backwards suehappy people are that there isn't teachers sued for making people sick.. It will happen someday.. quote me on this.)
Price is Right is not the causal reason why kids miss school. Missing school due to sickness/laziness CAUSES them to watch Price is Right, not the other way around. Aren't you a sociologist, shouldn't you know this? ;) Also, who the fuck skips school to go to Taco Bell?

And wow, I actually agree with Kayden for once. You miss 1/4th of your workdays as a TEACHER responsible for TEACHING students and you come here to bitch about how you might get fired?

And yes, if you had used JimmieMac's patented excuse, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Hey, I know a ton of people who skipped to go to Taco Bell for lunch - they'd leave around lunch, miss a few classes, and come back, or just not come back.

If I go to Taco Bell during the school week at lunch time, there are always kids hanging out in there. Little do they know, one day they will probably be the kids working in there, so the cycle will be complete.

The nearest Taco Bell to my school was like 15 miles away, so you could see how this wouldn't have worked. There wasn't much in the way of commercialism near my school unless you had a car.

Forgive my failures at proper causal order.

People don't skip school to go to Taco Bell. They skip school because of taco bell. ;)

I'm still laughing at this. You know what I always hated? When my classmates would take "personal days". Lemme guess OP, you used to do that?

You can't miss what you don't have. I never really used to take off with school, and I don't take off with work now. Last team meeting my client's father told me I was the only therapist to have perfect attendance...this is only after 3 months of work. That's pathetic.

I'm still pissed off about that food poisoning incident in my senior year. I could have had perfect attendance for all 4 years of high school if it wasn't for that one day :/

if you are a teacher (i'm not reading this whole darn thread to figure that out) then they could very well be looking for a good reason to fire you just so you can't get tenure. When i went to HS there was a great science teacher he was fired for some reason ever other year for like 8 years to stop him from getting tenure, of course eventually he got it but still complete crap.

Proving my point. I don't care if you think I'm an idiot or some basement slug does. I still stand what I believe in.

But oh wait, the forums are going downhill. I remember people rarely bash each other for even THIS kind of topic, but its okay for the "Cool Kids" to do it.

Right.

And other people make threads about doing even wierder things.. ..and I don't see this level of bashing.

ah, i guess i am off your ignore list...do me a favor and put me back on...idiot

I teach high school. On average, I call in sick about 5 times per year. Usually, four of those are genuine sick days and one is a "just because" day. I think that anyone who calls in sick for 40 days in a year deserves some serious scrutiny...

on the topic of taco bell, I almost traded a ps3 for 10,000 tacos or whatever the hell taco bell was doing as a publicity stunt. I love tacos.

Does the OP have the same contract as the teachers in the district?
Does VA grant tenure in the district?

Does the OP have tenure?
If no, doesn't matter what the reason. HE GONE

Where I work, we are given 80 hours every year that we can miss as sick, non-paided time off. If you go one min over those 80 you are terminated. And the worse thing about it is that if I don't go to work in 30 mins, that time doesn't come off until this same day next year.

I think anyone who calls in "just because" should be put out on their ass.

Where are you - France?

Depends on the job I suppose. I know some places you start losing sick time if you don't use it. Might as well "call in sick" if that's the case

My company uses PTO (paid time off). That time can be used for sick time or vacation time. I take all kinds of "just because" days because if I don't use the days, I lose the days (no compensation for lost PTO at all).
