Alright, the Americans have a wiki page with all the EB Games trade-in values and I figured we might as well start one for the Canadian EB. It's good reference for if we ever want to sell our soul or maybe take advantage of loopholes in their promos! I'll try and keep the list updated as much as possible.

If you have info to add, please do so in the following format:
*Game Name - $# - Month Day, Year
For example:
*Sonic Mega Collection - $8 - September 29th, 2006.

Group them by system please!

EB low balls their trade ins for big titles because they're always doing their +50% trade in towards selected new games.

It's been this way for a while. Killzone 3 is $40 everywhere else, but at EB, it's $24. If it was $40, people would do a straight up trade for Portal 2 or whatever is on the list.

They end up with a used copy of Killzone 3 which they sell for $54.99 and usually someone will use an edge card to knock another 10% off.

EB ends up with a game worth $49.50 and they give you a brand new game worth $59.99

As you can see, it's not really in their best interest to lose $10.50 per transaction.

However, the rest of us who just want to trade in our games for credit, end up getting screwed.

So if I DO trade in Killzone 3 for Potal 2 for example, the $24 Killzone value becomes $36. A more realistic trade in value. But rather than getting the game for free now, I have to fork over or trade in another $24.

Basically THAT is why MOST new games are getting CRAPPY trade in values at EB.

Singularity $7 +5 (Whoops, you wern't supposed to give me the extra $5 there... Shhh, I'll never tell)

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but BestBuy refused to trade-in FIFA or Madden 11 today because of the online play-pass. Lady said they are getting too many complaints about the used copies so they are no longer accepting trade-ins for titles with online passes.

Well, that's the last time I'll buy a sports game from EA. If I can't trade in the yearly copy then its a waste.

I wonder if that's a store-specific thing. My closest Best Buy is pretty anal about checking stock on games before taking them (in the past they've have a huge list of stuff they don't want)... so much so that I've started going to a different store where I've never had an issue.

At any rate, the people who complain are dumb :) They should know better. Best Buy should also know better and value/price used sports games more aggressively... cut prices by $10 and perhaps even include a notice on packaging that they may have to pay for online play ($10).

Was Borderlands GOTY? I think GOTY is 12 but normal is 7.50. Please confirm, thanks.

Hi, yep...it was the original Borderlands. Its one of the most wanted list for 12.00 right now.

Incidentally my local EB said they wouldn't take any hardware unless it came with the box. They made an exception for my trade in and took my Move accessories as a bundle.
 
Anybody know if EB or anywhere will take a game that has writing on the disc? I bought a used PS3 game from Rogers, and the disc has a series of numbers written on it in black marker. Mainly wonding about EB and Best Buy cause they're close.

Also, does Rogers require a membership to trade in games?

I'll answer what I put in bold.

Rogers has ceased with allowing trade-ins. Any games they have for sale are pulled from the shelves of their rental copies.

You did need to have Star Rewards in order to trade in games in the past.

Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover on a cotton ball will take that black marker off. Just do it gently enough.

Thanks, while it worked a bit. Eventually the black marker stopped coming off. I tried both ways.
