Capcom Announces Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
I'm assuming these are straight arcade ports... so I guess Alpha 3 won't have Guile or any of the other characters they added for the PS1 version?
If you read the OP, it says "direct arcade conversions."

They can't be direct arcade conversions. SFA2 Gold was never released in the arcade. It's only included in SFC2.

SFZ2A is not SFA2 Gold... SFZ2A was also never released in the United States.

This upgraded version of Street Fighter Alpha 2 was only released in Japanese arcades. It eventually came to the US in a console compilation under the name Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold.

Therefore, all four of the Alpha games here were in the arcades at some point.
Did you actually read my post? GameSpot is wrong. Z2A and A2Gold are not the same game.

Btw check out this cool FAQ I found on gamefaqs.

Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (SFZ2A) was an upgrade to the
Street Fighter Zero 2 (SFZ2) engine and appeared in arcades in
Japan, Asia, Brazil and Hispanic regions. Here are the arcade
release dates and regions:

Asia 960826
Brazil 960813
Hispanic 960813
Japan 960805

This game (as in Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha) was released on the Sony Playstation (PS1) in Japan under
the title Street Fighter Zero 2' (SFZ2'). Later this same version was
released on the PS1 and Sega Saturn (SS) as part of the Street Fighter
Collection discs. This version has 3 different titles:

Japan Street Fighter Zero 2'
Europe Street Fighter Alpha 2'
US Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold
What am I not reading here? Your post made no mention of GameSpot at all and your link says the same thing as GameSpot. Find something contradictory to that statement and I'll see about believing it, but I've got two sources confirming it and you've got nothing.

all these anthologies are a tease. they better announce the real thing at E3...something not half-assed like the last game.

Yeah.. apparently the naming schemes have got even me confused. Sorry about that.. Carry on :booty:

My only hope is that the authors are just throwing around the term "arcade port" rather recklessly (which a lot of articles tend to do). However, it does sound like that's what we're getting. Oh well. If they ever reprogram it for XBOX Live, that'll be sweet (although with recent trends, perhaps a 360 Arcade download is more likely).

Due to the way 2-D fighters have been released over the last few years, I've been conditioned to ignore anything that comes out on the PS2 (see SF:AC, CvS2, KoF02/03, Guilty Gear XX, Capcom Fighting Evolution, etc).

Well I was wrong before but here's some proof that the console version has to be included.

See the picture? SFA2 Gold. Only released for PS1 and Saturn... Unless they went ahead and changed the arcade intro specifically for this PS2 release... we're gonna get the PS1 version (maybe in addition to the arcade versions).

So yes, Gold (or Z') whatever you wanna call it, did originally come from Z2A, but it has Cammy so it's sort of different.

I'd say that it's the arcade version from Japan, just with the US title, as using a title that the game has never been called over here would just confuse people. It's what they called the game in the original press release, so I don't believe that they'd call it an arcade conversion and use the PS1 version.

Yeah.. You could be right. G I dunno dude. I'll be really disappointed if they give us only arcade versions when the console ports are obviously (maybe not better, but more desirable)... If they just give us straight ports with no unlockables I won't even pick it up.. and I'm a huge SF fan.

Yeah...I'm looking foward to this. But I loved using Guile and Fei Long on the console versions. Even T-Hawk.

I know the SFZ3 update wasnt as popular but I'm surprsed thats not there too, seeing as how the Zero 2 upgrade was there. Even more confusing is counting PSP theres been 2 updates to Alpha/Zero 3.

I'm bumping this thread because I recently got the game and can't stop playing.

Also it does include "Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper" which is unlockable (by beating Alpha 3 or dying against Bison). This version has all the new guys and an option to select their various incarnations.
Alpha and Alpha 2 weren't too hot. But Pocket Fighters makes it worth getting.
but alpha 2 had the best soundtrack. Sakura's stage is my favorite of all time.

I'll pass since I play these on my MAME machine. It's a nice compilation though but I've got too much SF at my house already with arcade controls to justify buying this. Granted, I don't have Alpha 2 Gold (I don't think) but I can live without it. Pocket Fighters is great fun.
