Well i went over to a local game trader (MCVANS VIDEO GAME TRADER) and they had shining soul 2. I could trade them my Advance wars 2 for it and it would only cost 5 bucks . well i gave them the game and got it home. When it first turn the game on the flags poped up and i noticed there was no USA Flag. My first thought that they gave me a freaking import game and it wont work on the system. Well i turn the game off and turned it back on to see maybe if i missed it. NOthing. So i turn off the game and flipped the game over on the back

NINTONDO instead of NINTENDO.

thats right a freaking bootleg game.

i called them up and said if i wanted to trade it back in it would cost another 5 bucks to get another game (if i understand them right) Or wait up to 90 days to see if they get another copy of the game in.

I love how they say they inspect the games let they allow bootlegs to be sold at their store. Also they wont take a game if its missing its box or book but they would been more then happy to sell me a Dragon warrior 7 for ps1 with no book for 36 bucks. Thats right they sell DW7 for 36 bucks and they really think someone is going to buy it.

what sucks is now im out 5 bucks and my advance wars 2 and now im stuck with a piece of junk bootleg game that isnt worth a penny. I mean im not going to even try to play it cause it probally could mess up my DS system

so watch where you buy your games or you will end up with bootlegs (if i didnt trade for the game they would of sold it for 24 bucks )

haha, its not gunna mess up your system.

i think everyone on the planet knows theres a ton of gba boots going around.

really?? this is the first time i ran into a bootleg. so its safe to keep it if they never get another copy in. thanks for the help.

i doesnt have a resell vaule though does it. I mean if i beat it in 6 months say and i turn around and resell it can i get in trouble for passing off a bootleg game ??

seriously, if you got the game to PLAY (which it never seems you do), there's no difference. I'd play it anyway.

Bootlegs play, but their ability to save data will disappear very fast.

yes, gba bootlegs are quite common.

it only has resale value if youre dishonest and find a sucker.

the game will not do anything to your system, however boots have been known to have the internal batteries die on them. its not a definite, i have a few boots, one the battery died about a year after i got it, one the battery is still going ( 3 years later) it all depends.

Can you replace the batteries? If so would it be expensive or cheap?

If you don't shop at that store that often, maybe if you call them and threaten to report them to the authorities, you could get a proper exchange. Of course, they could also laugh at you, ban you from the store, or run over to your house with a chainsaw and some dynamite. Who knows?

You can report the store to the BBB for that. I know a place in my area that sold bootleg DVDs and games that got in trouble for that kinda of stuff. Have you tried to take it back?

Thats pretty funny, at the local game store here I saw a GBA game that looked like someone printed out a logo and put glued on a cart. It was GRAND THEFT AUTO 3 and it was on a GBA cart. I don't think it was a bootleg, I think someone just put that sticker on one of their GBA games to get more trade in value for it. I bet it was really Virtua Tennis or one of those other cheapies.

im on a list. the next copy of the game they get they are to call me to return the game. they said it might be next week or next month. they have no clue when another used copy with come in. There are 4 saves on the cart so it seems the game will save, but i dont want to get busted trying to say sell it in 6 months to a year since its a bootleg.. i did get it to play it. I been wanting it for awhile but didnt want to buy it off ebgames for 30. i rented the game off gamefly and like it alot BUT

1. i dont want to put 30-50 hours into a game and then wham the save disappear
and
2. get busted for selling a bootleg once i beat the game.

i guess i will just have to wait and see and hope they get a real copy in soon

That sucks. I go MCVANS everyonce in a while. They sometimes have good stuff, but it is over priced. I did get my copy of Valkyrie Profile from them for $30, so they sometimes have good stuff. So they won't give you a refund and your game back for giving you a bootleg?

OK, here's how it works.

* the game will not hurt any system you use it on
* practically no GBA games use batteries to save. They use other methods (such as EEPROM).
* while you have to reason to undo the trade-in of advance wars, you can return the game right now since you were sold ILLEGAL MERCHANDISE. If they refuse to do that, explain they sold you illegal merchandise and don't be afraid to call up the game publisher and follow their advice. You can always, at the very least, file a complaint with the better business bureau. Be polite, calm, but insist on a refund, explaining your other options.

It is very unlikely that a supervisor will refuse a refund under these circumstances, but even if you find a supervisor that stupid, work your way up the retail chain. But realistically, you should have a refund in a few minutes (if you go there in person, of course).

This same thing happened to me at a local shop where I do a lot of trading. I had some credit slips in my pocket, so I stopped by one day a couple of months ago after work and poked around. When I got to the GBA section, I saw they had a copy of Tactics Ogre, so...*cha-ching* I bought it. I got it home and put it down next to my GBA stuff, and noticed that there was a difference in the cartridge color. I started looking at the game more closely, and there on the back, it too read "Nintondo." I took it back to the shop, and showed the guy who sold it to me what was up. I even told the guy that it worked fine, but that I didn't want to be screwed out of the ability to trade it in again later on if I decided I didn't want it. It would've been my luck that the first guy got away with trading it in, but if I tried it they'd notice it was a bootleg and deny me. Anyway, the staff was apologetic, and agreed that it was a pirate, and proclaimed that they do not condone or support the sale of pirated goods, and gave me an immediate refund/exchange. I was happy with that. What totally set me off though was when I went in again the next week, and they had THE SAME PIRATED GAME sitting in the GBA section, waiting for some other sucker to buy it.

Yeah seriously, just go in person and explain the situation. I would be shocked if they didn't take it back. Absolute WORST case scenario is that you get store credit back. Just do it in person and don't wait too long, like everyone else said.

I'd be surprised if they wouldn't give you a refund if you went back there in person. eldad's advice is good.

Hell if they wouldn't give me a refund I'd consider calling the cops about it. Not sure if they'd do anything but if that's a pattern for that store it'd catch up with them eventually.

Why fool with the BBB when you can go to the actual authorities? (IMO the BBB doesn't really do much/have much power.)

Agreed, just handle things calmly, professionally, and confidently :). If they refused me with this attitude, I would politely call the authorities outside the store and tell them that the store is selling illegal items.
can you re-flash bootleg games? Or are they locked with that one rom on them?
EPROMs (erasable PROMs) are more expensive than one-shot PROMS, so they're not found where they have no business to be.
