Carnival Games

I picked this up yesterday and it was worth every cent. My wife, my 5 year old daughter, and I spent 8+ hours playing this yesterday. The mulitplayer competitions are a blast.

There are some stinkers in there (Collection Plate, Ring Toss), but overall this is a very entertaining game.

It's entertaining, but not worth $40. I definitely looks like a ps2 game that was ported with gesture control tacked on. It lacks a lot of polish too. moving mouths on the hawkers would have been a nice addition. Tying the games avatars to Mii's would have made this much more valuable as well.

I was disappointed in the small, pixelated pictures of prizes and think they should have come up with a better display for them. Something like in Super Smash Bros. that has trophies grouped on a table for display.

The sounds are weak, sound like basic stock sounds, and offer the bare minimum to enhance the experience. When I hear the stock lane bowling ball thunk for every collision, it gets kinda old. Real life samples would have made this game more appealing. I just don't feel like I'm at a carnival, or in an arcade.

And adding something like a full 9 or 18 hole putt-putt golf game would have made this worthy of $40. It's entertaining, yes, but they could have easily done much more, with not much more effort. As it stands, I think it should have been only $30, max. A must buy for $20, eventually.

Thanks for the differing opinion. Legitimate gripes put in context.

That said, mine finally shipped from DeepDiscount! No one else cares, but I wanted to share. Woohoo! I can then come back with a review too.

I just placed my order to VideoGamesLagoon for this game though DeepDiscount.com since that seemed to be the only website that said it had them in stock!!

My order with VGL hasn't processed yet (SIGH!), so I don't have the game quite yet. Once they process it (meaning they bought me the game), I'll know if it was in stock or have to wait a couple days/week(s) before it ships....hopefully, this goes well. Free is probably the best price for this game.. or usually any :)

6 pages of discussion on Carnival Games seems pretty impressive to me.

If anyone can inform me on this please do. How do I find out sales numbers for this game so far?

Now according to this, the week ending in 9/1/07 (which I believe is the week both Carnival Games and Metroid came out)

Carnival games came in 6th...to be honest, I still think it's pretty good since it's not really a hyped up game. It beat out RE4, Zelda, Madden, and Super Paper Mario that week.. lol

I'm going to keep looking. This intrigues me too because a lot of sites had this on backorder..

EDIT: K I'm really retarded at math, but according to THIS, in America, Carnival games has sold 0.02 million. So, is that 20,000? Why can't I think right now? Someone fix the decimal for me.

But sadly, I can't find numbers. Just because it did better then those 4 games doesn't mean it sold a lot. I mean RE4 could of sold like 14 copies last week..and that means Carnival games sold about 15..LOL

Beat me to it! :) Just came back to re-edit the post!!
Thanks!

I guess 23k isn't bad! It depends on how many were shipped..which I doubt was that many!

I don't have any clue if that is good or not but it will be interesting to see the coming weeks to see how word of mouth has affected sales.

I was at a EB tonight and one guy bought a copy, but wanted to buy ALL the Carnival Games they had. They only had one though hehe.

Ebay hoarder.

See, I think the fact that I've seen this as a Top Seller on sites like Amazon.com and DeepDiscount and 23k+ in it's first week.. I do believe they will distribute more and this will not be a rare game.

If the sales had been like 3,000... then maybe. I don't know much about these sales numbers and all..but I'd imagine that 23K in it's first week w/o any major advertisement and it debuted the SAME WEEK (Day?) as METROID PRIME 3! I'm SURE it has to be considered pretty successful in sales! If MP3 DIDN'T come out that week..would it have sold even more?! Just maybe..

I may get it when the price drops to $20.

I haven't touched my Wii in months, even thinking of selling the Zelda game to EB for $35.

You know what's really intrigues me about the game..is that on a lot of retail websites under the video games section..this is usually in the "TOP GAMES". I was surfing CC.com, and I clicked on TOP Wii GAMES and this was the first game, followed up by Metroid...There isn't any indication that CG is selling BETTER then MP3 (at CC.com at least), but it's def not in Alphabetical order because the last game is Boogie..LOL

Anyway, it's in stock at CC.com, so if you are looking for it...you CAN get it on there. My VideoGameLagoon processed it..and I'll be getting it from DeepDiscount. Sadly, it won't ship until 9/19 :( But at least I'm getting it!
I heard through GS/EB that the manufacturer of Carnival Games will only ship out 50,000 copies.

Is this true?
That could easily be a ploy by the GS/EB clerk to get you to buy it. What was the context? Were you considering buying it and then they told you this? It could very well be true - or it could be true for the first shipment with more to follow if those sell well. I've seen the thing advertized on TV multiple times, and it seems unlikely they'd do that for just 50,000 copies.

I definitely want to get this, but not for $40. I will, though, if it is going to get all rare and stuff.

According to this page:
http://www.vgchartz.com/aweekly.php

It was down to #46 with 2nd week sales of 13,942 and a total of 37,413. It is doing a lot worse than many other games in their second week (except Dynasty Warriors Gundam on the PS3 ;)). at the Mario Party 8 and Wii Play numbers though. Wow...

I was already going to buy it because I had credit there and going to use the 10% off coupon.

The manufacturer is a division of RockStar. If this was made by Atlas, I would definitely say limited supply.

Time will tell.

i've had this game for about a week now. my boss always buys me videogames and this was the most recent gift i received. i honestly don't like it. the 2 things that irk me the most are: not using miis (the characters used in the game suhhhhhhhks), me sucking at the games (except for the shooting gallery), and the virtual prizes (i like crappy stuffed animals filled with fishheads and broken glass...what can i say).

i know i'm just really griping about the game. my gf likes it though....so i can't sell/trade it yet. with over 6 pages of chat for this game.....it's definately getting some word of mouth. i'm just one of the rare ones that thinks its just mehhhhh.

I have been checking Wherehouse.com for it to be in stock and it always shows as OOS. I just placed an order as it now shows as in stock since I had some over $40 in trade in credit. I was hesitant to pay full price (it was almost $44 with shipping not counting my credit) but I figure it might be difficult to find and my actual cost was probably around $20 so I figure it's worth $20.

I've been playing it for a couple of hours. I must say that with regards to having the "carnival" atmosphere and games, it really excells.

The game is not as good as Wii Sports, but it's great for families. My son really enjoys it.

I actually love the prizes, even if all you can do is rotate them. Some of the games are too tough for me (damn you ringtoss!) but overall I think it's a good, fun mix of games. I kinda wish there was more stuff to unlock by spending tickets though. The clothing options make me crack up. I think the one player mode is gonna get old soon but I bought it more for my fiancee than me anyway and from what I've played it seems right up her alley.

Eh average game. It doesn't feel as solid/polished as WiiSports or WiiPlay. Yet it's not broken either.

It does just enough to get a passing grade, but no more.

I'd recommend a rental.

Anyone else having severe loading times? I have a launch Wii system, and the time from mini-game to mini-game seems awfully slow.

EDIT: I removed the disc from my system, rebooted my Wii and put the disc back in. No problems now, loads quick.

I don't have load problems but I did have the game completely LOCK up while loading a multi-player game.

Also, sometimes the drive makes some loud noises.

Wii Play? I don't see ANY comparison to that. That was horrible. Worth the $10 that it was priced at over the controller but worth absolutely nothing more.

This is MUCH better than Wii play.

Finally got this in the mail and took it for a quick spin. And now I don't know if I'm a little let down by high expectations or what.

They really could have done a lot more with it. Not having any game options to adjust anything is just wrong. Say I don't want to hear that barker, or just want to turn up the effects to background music ratio. Nope. Nada. Zilch. You get what you get. Period.

And no I am not impressed by the sound or ambience put forth. I wanted to hear clearer pops, clanks, buzzers and whatnot. Things are as sadly muffled as they were in the preview vid posted way back in this thread. Was put off then and it's confirmed I'm put off now.

It's not a fun killer, but still. Maybe I'll just turn up the TV way up next time.

The big let down with Alley Ball as feared -- there are NO set up sounds of the six wooden balls rolling down the chute and clanking to a stop. Boooooo!!! And don't cartoon bloop me for scoring. Why no thud and clink instead?

While I appreciate being able to have a go at carnival games in Carnival Games whenever the mood strikes, the fun factor is numbed by odd and slow 2-4 second pauses before each turn for a bunch of games like the milk bottle one that breaks up momentum unecessarily.

It's enjoyable for what it is -- as long as you don't elevate it beyond what can be expected for an excercise in simplistic repetition.

And that Clown Blast is damn hard. Drowning the scuba wearing Rabbids in "Raving Rabbids" was a lot more intuitive, easy and accurate.

Just figured I'd give my 2 cents...
I really wanted to like this game. I bought it the same day I went to go pick up Bioshock, MP3, and Jeanne D'Arc. Popped it in and tried out about 10 of the games. The thing I really didn't like about it was the fact that there didn't seem to be even close to the same degree of "finesse" required as even Wii Sports had. For instance, the skee ball seemed like it was all about the lining up rather than the swing execution. Basically, I felt like I could hit the big numbers on almost every attempt. Most of the other games I tried had the same issue, unless it was just completely broken. I do remember really liking one mini-game, but it was not enough to justify keeping it, so I traded it a few days after I got it.

I can understand why people might like it, I just wish I had.

Were those actual screenshots or IGN's own interpretation? Not even close to being polished. And 7 games for $20 seems even less of a bargain to me.

This game isn't bad! Just got it a few days ago. I haven't played it much..but why are all the characters all creepy & scary and pretty white trash lookin?!

It's a game based off of carnivals and you have to ask that?

 I've been to a FEW carnivals and not everyone there was white trash!!

anyone have any hints for super hole-in-one golf? it's driving me insane. hole #4 is killer, and the few times i've been able to beat it, i can't sink hole #5.
 I've been to a FEW carnivals and not everyone there was white trash!!
So you haven't been to any GOOD carnivals then? No bearded women? The dunk tank guy in this game is what every dunk tank guy in real life should aspire to be. I also enjoy the guy with the fro who shows up at various booths. Legendary!
Sorry if this has been posted, but does anyone know what EB's trade-in value for this is?
It's probably $25 like most new Wii games. Then they turn it around and sell it for $34.99 used.
