Casablanca Blu Ray $14.99 Amazon + more price cuts

Isn't that the new single disc Casablanca? Plus the review by highdefdigest is based on the UCE version and not the one listed above.

And all those above are pre-orders?

Movies don't need bright colors to look crisp and clear. Bright colors are, in fact, needed to hold the attention of today's audience.

Just watch your Transformers 2 and Avatar and just be distracted by the CGI then.

Wow, WB fucks us Red2Blu folks TWICE!

Let me know when you find a review of the single disc version. I already labeled the link "Ultimate Edition" to try to avoid confusion.

I think they all get released the same day.

Actually, the Ultimate Edition has been out since Christmas 2008. The single disc is just that - they've got rid of the extras, but otherwise it's the same film with the same quality.

Thanks for the info about the extras. I had a feeling that for $14.99 it would be the bare-bones version. That kind of sucks. I rented the ultimate edition version bluray from blockbuster for a couple weeks and pretty much watched all the extras and watched the film again with Ebert's commentary. I really liked the extras. This was the 1st commentary I've ever listened to and it was really fascinating. I might end up cancelling this order and waiting a year or two for a better deal on the ult. edition. I haven't decided.

I just found this link. http://forum.blu-ray.com/hot-deals-forum/129109-casablanca-14-99-amz.html

People on this forum say that this disc is identical to disc 1 of the ultimate edition. Someone also mentioned Ebert's great commentary like I just did (it is really good). I don't know who is correct about the extras. If anyone can find any additional information, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If the ultimate edition was just $10 or $11 cheaper, I would buy it. I just can't spend $40 on a blu ray. I just watched this movie for the 1st time a couple weeks ago when I rented it from Blockbuster. I just want it for my collection, because I'll probably watch it over and over.

i never meant no harm with my post...i was rather amazed on the black and white blu ray
really , me? i would never!

if it makes you feel any better

I hated Transformers 2. Horrible movie. Plot dies when that kid gets revived...ugh
I was never interested in Avatar in the 1st place. I have heard of the awesome CGI but never looked into it. I am not a closet-furry.
As a kid, i would always eat my breakfast and watch my Saturday morning cartoons while eating breakfast. The TV was a really small black and white tv and i would watch the original Rugrats/Looney Tunes in it. I didnt mind, as long as i was having fun since i used to forgot i had this big full color tv in my room.
Even then, i remember my country broadcasting the original Looney Tunes in the mid 1990s.
fuck yeah eat breakfast and watch cartoons ftw!

They actually doubled the price on Unforgiven; that was going for around $8 on Amazon last week.

Still thinking about pulling the trigger on that Close Encounters set, though. That's the cheapest I've seen it yet.

There's still one at $8.99, is there any difference between the two releases?

Sorry, I should clarify. When I said 'got rid of the extras', I meant everything but the first disc. The single disc that's up on Amazon should be identical to the first disc from the Ultimate Edition, but without the snazzy packaging, booklets, tickets, etc.

So yeah, you will have some of the film extras on the disc, but none of the collectors items.

The single disc of Casablanca has been out at Best Buy and Deep Discount for a while now. I don't know if they were exclusives or what but I have never seen it on Amazon until now. I like the cover of the version that I picked up better than the Amazon version though (although the Amazon version shown might just be a cardboard sleeve with the artwork the same as the BB version).

The extras on the disc I have are:
Commentary by Roger Ebert
Commentary by Historian Rudy Behlmer
Introduction by Lauren Bacall
Additional Scenes and Outtakes
Scoring Session Outtakes
2 Documentaries-Bacall on Bogart and You Must Remember This: a tribute
Featurette: As Time Goes By-The Children Remember

Homage Cartoon-Carrotblanca
Thanks guys for clearing up my confusion about the extras.

Has anyone watched the second disc of the ultimate edition and was it worth watching?
The 2nd disc of the Ultimate Edition is a standard-def DVD documentary on producer Jack L. Warner. That's literally all it is.

Personally I would definitely go with the single-disc. It has all the major extras you need, and personally I'm not a fan of the "fancy" packaging with all kinds of trivial collectible items. For me it's not worth it -- just give me the standard BD case and the movie with the extras. YMMV of course, but I felt the same way on GONE WITH THE WIND and WIZARD OF OZ. The "deluxe" sets really aren't that deluxe, I found the disc-only versions elsewhere (Target for Oz, Amazon UK for GWTW) for less and they take up less room on the shelf.

I saw it for $19.99 at Best Buy the other day (with a regular price sticker with that price on it, not on sale), so I think it might have just gotten a universal price drop. Still, might be best to grab it now, in case they drop the "Ultimate Edition" for a single-disc version whenever it comes time for a re-press.
