I opened my copy of Casino Royale I bought at the Ann Arbor, MI Target on Tuesday and low and behold, there were 2 "Special Features" discs, no movie disc.

I returned to Target to exchange my copy, figuring this was a one-off occurance, but the second copy the store had to open before I could leave also had 2 of the Special Features discs.

The store manager asked if I actually watched either disc to make sure it wasn't just a dvd label problem and I said no. She made one of the employees go back to electronics and try both discs! Both discs actually contained the special features material, so it wasn't a label screw-up.

I went and grabbed 2 more copies, same problem.

I was told that since I opened the movie, they couldn't return it due to "copyright law" and that I would need to leave with a copy of Casino Royale on DVD.

I went back to the DVD section and grabbed every copy of the widescreen DVD they had on the shelves and told the manager that since I couldn't get my money back, we would be opening all of these until we found a copy of the Movie Disc 1.

We opened 8 copies of the movie before we found one with the Disc 1 Movie.

Just an FYI to all that bought the movie and haven't opened it yet. I looked online but could not find any info about this. Seems strange that only the 1 store would have this many dvd's with production problems.

I'll check my copy tonight I guess.

seconded. Extra kudos for telling the story without making the Target employees out to be giant pricks, and dealing with your problem in a responsible, respectable manner.

:applause:

Good call.
good god, how many of you bought the DVD without opening it?!
I usually buy my movies on Tuesday for the deals and then watch them on weekends. But lately I haven't had much time to even do that so it has taken a few weeks to get to some movies.

Did David85 give you his mincing bitchiness for Christmas?

You're so witty.

I just thought it was weird that three people had bought the DVD this past week from Target but haven't opened them yet.

I will have to open mine up when I get home from work. I just bought it yesterday. Thanks for the heads up!

Edit: Checked my copy and it all good.
I like how they let you open 8 other DVDs instead of just giving you your $15 back.
Did you miss this part of the story:

I have a habit of doing this too! Sometimes I just don't have any time, but I have to get a DVD at it's release price, so I get it.

3rd, I greatly appreciate the story being told very nicely.

A normal store problem on the internet reads like this

So I go in, and get two special discs. Well the store was full of teenaged employees all talking on their cell phones, while being rude. I finally found the manager a fire breathing dragon bitch.

Well you get my point now.

Not everyone has the time to watch a movie as soon as they get it. Most don't open cause if we can't watch it no one else can. So if someone comes over, and sees a sealed dvd then they know not to ask to borrow it. Plus its not right in the realm of movies to open a dvd your not going to watch right away. Its like giving the dvd blue balls.

I used to wait until the first time I watched a dvd to take the wrapping off, but because I've been buying more and more online I always check the discs first thing. It has saved my ass a couple times.

Thanks for posting this OP, I'm planning on buying this soon, so I'll be sure to check it.

Completely agree. I hate opening movies early.

Yeah, I actually brought up how that it might be in their best interest to maybe pull them from the shelves or put a sign up near the dvd's stating that consumers should inspect the product after purchase but prior to leaving the store.

The girl at the return counter was understanding of how they should probably be proactive about this somehow but the manager on duty wasn't very interested in trying to resolve the problem, she was more interested in getting me out of the store since it was almost closing time.
That's fucked up. Thankfully my CC copy was fine. Just watched it last night (saw it in theaters too). Still completely awesome.
Did you get your free coin?
Maybe , the putting DVD's in the boxes job , is a job Americans won't do ?
Lol, well, by the time Ford, GM, and Chrysler are done laying people off in Michigan, we'll have plenty of people who will want that job!

In other words:

Michigan Economy = fuck'd

I wait until the weekend to watch the movies I buy on Tuesday.
Makes you wonder if there are a ton of copies out there with just disc 1
I dunno, a (very) quick Google search didn't turn up anything on this so I think it has to be a problem with just a very small number of them.
You should have knocked the magazine rack over on your way out.
Or while waiting for the employee to test out the disc's, think of a new line for CAG to overuse.
