Castlevania X Chronicles for PSP!!!!!
The creator of Castlevania has been shunning the PSP since the get go. Mainly because of your comment. People expected any PSP Castlevania to be huge, full of new features that push the system to its limit. Why he has had the team working on 2D stuff on the DS as it is a bit "simpliar" in many regards.

If these improved "ports" do well, maybe that'll get him to focus on actually sitting down and working up some new stuff to take advantage of the hardware.
I meant more as in a different franchise than Castlevenia... Soul Calibur or a Suda 51 game would have sounded better.

Well, then I hope this is a phenomenal, runaway success, because I've been hoping for a "huge" and true successor to Symphony on the PSP since I purchased it at launch (cue general mocking laughter, a la Peanuts gang pointing at Charlie Brown). God knows the system could use it and the odds of 2-D Castlevania hitting even the PS2 are virtually nil.

Don't get me wrong, the GBA/DS games have been a lot of fun, but they collectively feel like more of a continuation of the same formula than a gameplay and graphical leap.
If I find out Rondo of Blood sucks, however, I'm going to hunt people down.

Besides. Where's my Castlevania 2 remake? Give me that with SOTN's experience system. THAT would be beyond badass. Then make it about 2-3 times as long, with new dungeons and stuff.

But still, SOTN on PSP is kewl. That'll do for now.
Castlevania 2 was ahead of its time - in the Castlevania series at least. Even if they don't remake that title... I'd like it if theyd just use that format.. I think they should remake at elast the first 3 Castlevania... just like capcom redid Mega Man x
I guess this was the PSP game they were hinting at on the 1up show.

And in last month's EGM. Sorry to go against the grain here, but it's kind of a bummer that it's not a new game for one of the consoles. I would take it worse if I actually had any respect for Shane "Sony Suckoff" Bettenhausen's hyperbolic bullshit.
You think he fuckin' divorced you and took custody of the children the way you fail to pass up even the *faintest* opportunity to bash him.

damn... missed the original since it was trashed by a former friend..... now i can relive fond memories (with hidden passages/stages) on the go..... this is one of the few games that i played over and over... beat it atleast 20-30 times.... it was a good time not to have a job... or bills..

Wow, this is big news for the PSP, or is it really? For gamernerds like us forum regulars, this is a big deal. For the typical PSP owner, notsomuch. I don't really think that a Castlevania title, as great as this one will most likely be, will do much for PSP harware sales. It is still a great addition to the PSP library, but talk of it revving up the PSP is a little premature.

Not to mention I guarantee that this will hit the PS2 as well at some point.

With all of the Castlevania whoring going around these days, here's hoping for Rondo on the VC as well!
I would take it worse if I actually had any respect for Shane "Sony Suckoff" Bettenhausen's hyperbolic bullshit.
Hence the primary reason why I can't stand listening to video game centered podcasts. I have yet to listen to one where there's not two guys talking about gaming and coming off as total retards. I've been tossing around the idea of creating a weekly "gaming news" podcast by myself to recap the week's events in the gaming industry. Really it would be to appeal those who are sick of listening to a couple of guys spend 5 minutes making "Wii" jokes.

Anyway, I agree with those who want a successor to SotN; Iga needs to go back to his roots and make another decent 2D game for the consoles. The GB/DS games are allright, but I'm not a big fan of the flashy / anime style they've gone to. Give me some Bloodlines / SotN graphics and a huge area (hell, doesn't have to be a mansion, it could be like CV II and be set in the country side) and I think we'd all be more than happy.

Wait... people are complaining we're finally getting Rondo of Blood, after 10 odd years of the fans begging and begging at Iga and Konami's doorstep for it?

It's like I stepped into a parallel dimension of retardedness.

For all intents and purposes, this IS a new sidescrolling Castlevania game since probably only 2% of the fans or general public ever played Rondo of Blood.

I'm hoping this sells just as well as the GBA ones which will be undeniable proof that the fans still love the 2D Castlevania's - it would be something if it outsold both PS2 ones, wouldn't it?

To all the people who want the Saturn version of SOTN: have you even played it? It sucks. The jail level is alright, but it's short and the ghost enemies look stupid. The garden level is utter hogwash full of hacked sprites; it's cheesy beyond belief.

I wish they remade Dracula X's first stage music instead of another Castlevania 3 remake. It would have been cool to hear it with a real guitar.

Come on Roufuss you've been here long enough to know its always
Bitch, Bitch, Bitch, Bitch, Bitch, Bitch. It is funny how even with good news people find a way to complain. At least we will be having fun playing it when it comes out :)

Yeah, at this point I really don't give a damn what assorted CAGs are menstruating over. This is perfection, regardless of what some ultra-bitchy person who won't buy the game until it's $5 anyway says.

Hope I didn't come off as bitching. I am just a bit incredulous at the moment is all.

Again, wide screen SOTN? Yes please.

Dude, I thought I was the only one who noticed this. Good to see I'm not alone.

Oh, and I'm gonna sacrifice a virgin whore tonight in hopes that this comes to the PS2.

I was mildly excited at first, but that video looks kind of...slow. I don't know, I picture the game being much faster.

Man, I still don't have a psp, but with this, MGS, Lumines II, and a few others, I'll be forced to buy one. Kudos to Konami for bringing this though!

Greatest reason to own the PSP. Ever. This single compilation makes every dollar I spent on the PSP worth it... I am no longer bitter about my purchase.

Seeing as how I've never played Rondo of Blood, I'm definitely getting this. But now the question is if I should get the 360 version of SotN. I already have the PSX version, and I don't know if I need three copies of the same game. I don't care about Achievements, but there is still the fact that buying it would send the message that there is indeed a market for 2D Castlevania games on the big consoles.

I own both actually. If it wasn't for the problems with slowdown, I'd probably play it on the Saturn more. Its not like the the Saturn version is JUST the extra levels. If Konami would fix the slowdown for the PSP, it would be just like the PS1 version but with a nice a little bonus of a couple of extra levels and the ability to play as Maria. It would be a great surprise for the people who have already played SOTN to death on the PS1 to see on the PSP that there's some new areas to explore and an extra character to play as when they play the game again.

It really doesn't matter in the end though, we all know Konami is just going to port the Playstation version. Its just easier to port and its obvious that most of their energy has been put into Rondo of Blood.

QFT.
I've had Rondo on my PSP for awhile now.

I'll still probably buy this though.
I'm new to homebrew on the PSP - can you tell me how you did this?

Hmmmm this is awsome awsome awsome....but im not sure if its enough to convince me to buy a PSP, even if I do buy a used one for like $130. Still the PSP is slowly looking like its worthy of a purchase, but its kinda sad that its because of ports of good PSX titles. Regardless ill probally be buying this on day one incase it gets rare...and man if they do any kind of preorder bonus at all im deffintly getting it day one even if I dont own or want a PSP just yet.

Well, actually there's quite a few original games that are worthy of the purchase (MGS:pO, WipeOut, BurnOut, SOCOM FTB, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror) plus with the ability to move to Dark Alex's 3.03 OE-C firmware, you can have the ability to run these games and homebrew ... it's the best of both worlds.

There are some good games, but given the upcoming DS release list has so much more to offer, not to mention there are still so many good games from last gen to still play I cant see popping out $200 for a PSP. Not to mention that while many of the PSPs games are good the genres are too limited, for someone like me that plays platformers, RPGs and quirky games its just too limited.

I think IGA hinted in an interview with 1up in September that SOTN on 360 is a testing ground for the market of a new 2d console Castlevania. I will probably end up buying it out of respect and hope that he does come through, even though I do own the original PSX one and have it on my PSP right now anyway.

This is freaking awesome news though. I really hope this sells insanely well so we get a brand new SOTN style the next year from IGA. I've been playing the crap out of this system since early December and way more than my Wii thanks to MGS: PO and the ridiculously good PSone emulator. Konami is stepping up huge here, now all that's left is a new 2d Contra.

I could care less about SOTN at this point; subsequent Metroidvania games have made me lukewarm to that whole affair.

Rondo of Blood though? Hell yes. Let's hope this might persuade Iga to do a new 'vania game with levels again.
I'm new to homebrew on the PSP - can you tell me how you did this?
It was awhile ago, I'd have to see if I still have the page bookmarked on how to do it.

If I remember correctly, there was an issue with the music, it doesn't loop. Perhaps a newer version of the emulator fixed that, I dunno.

Anyways, I'll do some research and let you know.

Yeah, I can see your point. I'm quite the opposite, I don't think I've given my DS more than 2 hours of love in the last 5 months. IMO there's not a compelling DS game that really has me jonesing for it; they all seem to be some jacked up japanized game (cooking mama, brain age, etc.) or quirky sim type game (Phoenix Write, Trauma Center, Out of Blue (or whatever it's called)). I prefer to have my ports or straight action game, though I would love to see a remake of LoZ:OoT made for the DS, that would SOOOO kick ass.

That is what I do not understand though. The PSP has more and imo better platformers and RPGs. The DS is very limited on those too genres. There is no platformer that even comes close to being as good as Daxter if you ask me.

Alot of people just don't give the PSP a chance. It really is an amazing handheld with a great library.

The PCEP emulator is the best for PSP. I think v.07 is the most up to date even though it's almost a couple years old now. There is no music loop built in which kind of stinks but you can pretty much play Rondo in ok quality. It's hard to play for me personally on PSP just cause the framerate is not as good as it should be and the sound is glitchy

I will definitely be getting Chronicles when it comes regardless since this game is amazing.

I don't like the Unlockable idea .. why don't they just put 3 games in 1 disc and let you play any game you wanted instead beat the game & unlock it to play another game.

This is great news and it might be the system seller the psp needs....that is if everone doesn't f'ing pirate it. Support IGA!! Buy this game

Yeah that's what worried me a bit watching the trailer but apparently a lot of it is still place holder music so here's hoping.

I know the library. Besides checking a half dozen news sites a day for info on games I also check gamerankings atleast once a month and keep track of all the good games coming out. Im sorry but iv given it a chance and your out of your damned mind if you think PSP is the better format for Platformers and RPGs. Mario and Luigi, Contact, Castlevania PoR & DoS, Castlevania , Final Fantasy 3 and games like FFXII, DQIX and Pokemon coming up. Come on seriously it makes the PSP look like a joke. I mean seriously whats the PSP got to compete with this thats out right now? And the stuff coming up that can compete are mostly ports of PSX titles.

As far as Platformers the PSP has 4 games currently ranked a 8 or above where as the DS has 8. So again dont see where your coming from on this. And again looking at the future the DS seems to dominate.

Why does every PSP thread ALWAYS have to turn into a DS / PSP war?

Please, just shut the fuck up.

Marked all this garbage for moderation too, because it dosen't belong here.

Because these bitches have to justify their purchases to each and everyone else. Even though they're trying to make their feelings known, the irony is that they're still seeking approval from everyone else because they're uncertain that they're right.

For tit's sake, relying on composite game reviews to tell me that one console or another is better? That's a weak excuse for an argument, but par the course for that dumbass.

I like my PSP. I just downgraded and installed 3.03-OE-fuckin' whatever, and been playing Xenogears on it. It's a damned fun system that can do a lot of things. Now I've ripped by Dracula X, and I'm gonna figure out how to get that shit running. I can play my SNES games, NES, PSX, and PSP titles. Forgive the shit out of me, gaming world, but I happen to think the PSP is a goddamned amazing console.

I like my DS. I just picked up Hotel Dusk, I just finished Phoenix Wright, I'm in the middle of Final Fantasy V and hoping to pick up VI next week - I love that I can play any number of games, that it can be used for software like kanji dictionaries, educational titles, and the New York Times Crossword game? fuckin' A.

I like my WonderSwan too, actually. I only have three games, but they're good fun.

In the end, I don't need any of you to tell me that I've made a good or bad decision with what I've bought. I'm fuckin' thrilled with what I own, and if I don't like something, I'll sell it. One thing I don't goddamn need, however, is for any of you to tell me that I made the right or wrong purchasing decision. Why? Because you don't know me and my tastes, so you're fuckin' wrong even when you're right.

Look back. This time it started innocently enough, no insults or anything. I guess it was my fault but I didnt insult the PSP or anything, just said that this is awsome news but not sure if im ready to get a PSP or not yet. It just spiraled after that post.
