Cat pee'd on DS Lite, now it turns off randomly

Mike 01Hawk

CAGiversary!
He pee'd on my White DS Lite several months ago, I know.. jokes ha ha ha, anyway. I left it in the closet gathering dust since then and bought a new black DS Lite to replace it.

I'd like to get it working so I could play some 2 player games w/ teh wifey.

The water sticker in the battery compartment is still normal looking (I compared it to the working Black DS)

It'll turn off:
1) When playing soley on battery power
2) When playing while also plugged in
3) Swapped batteries with the working Black DS and still turns off.

So, dosen't look like a power/battery issue.

Are there any quick pointers or things I could do if I got the security screwdiver to open it up? What about warrenty repair? It's been over a year, and I bought it off Ebay, so no reciept :(

Maybe play dumb and hope Nintendo dosen't notice the 'mositure' issue?

If repair work isn't free, I'd figure it'd be cheaper to just get a new DS, but from what I hear, the newer DS's are now using a substandard Display :(

if it was turned on while it was still wet then there is a very good chance that it's fried.

if not and you gave it proper time to dry before testing it, then there are ways to clean the circuit board. use google and search for how to clean electronics that have been submerged in water. all of the solutions essentially involve submerging the circuit board in alcohol.

honestly i'm surprised that it's not working unless it was open when it was contaminated. i would have assumed that it would have just run off the sides and left behind a stink.

doesn't hurt to try to send it to nintendo, you might get lucky.

Yeah, if you switched batteries and it still turns off on battery power and while plugged in, I think it's time to dump it and get a new one.

Of course, you could always sell it on ebay. People buy broken stuff all the time. Broken stuff with cat urine is another story though.

I can't imagine how much it reeks though.

I'm sure if the wife knows about this, you would be using the cat pee ds 100% of the time, fixed or not. :)

Seriously....I hope it works out.

We have one of those papazan (I call them Papa John as in the Pizza Company) chairs in the office. You know, it's like a big sphere cut in half that rests in a wicker basket. Anyway, the DS Lite was tossed onto the papazan, and we accidentally left the cat in the office with the door closed... so the cat did his thing I guess in what he thought was his litter box... and yeah, the DS was just an innocent victim :(

As for the smell.. yes it reeked at first, but I went at it with some cleaning stuff (yeah, liquid cleaning.. lol.. maybe I broke the dang thing trying to clean it).... but now it dosen't smell at all :)

Hmm... Ebay it, or just get a security screw thingy and see what the inside of a DS Lite looks like
Can we reserve the OT comments to the OT threads?
What comments were made that were off-topic? All I see are jokes that relate to the topic.

Albeit they aren't helpful in the least, but these threads always get 1 of 3 kinds of replies from any given person:

1) people who think of something funny to say regarding the topic but don't have any good advice, so all they leave is a joke

2) people who can't think of a good joke but do have good advice, so all they leave is the advice

3) people who have both, and leave both :)

Hmm... this time I believe I will be... the 2nd kind.

What Nintendo would charge to fix it might be less than a new one. I have a feeling they'd just replace the whole inside and salvage what's left, or give you a new one if you pay them to fix it and they can't. Might be worth looking into, you could get your 2nd DS after all for less than the cost of a new one.

Or ebay it as broken for parts. Then there's always the more dishonest, trade it into Gamestop and hope they don't notice. But, at least it wouldn't be as bad as this: http://www.yougamers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67332

I will be (as was your cat) a #1.

ok, here we go:

I'm not sure of the details, but it sounds to me like your cat really pissed off your DS!

I say spend the $6 or so odd dollars and buy the screwdriver and crack that badass open. See if you can patch up whatever the problem is.

no no no, he's supposed to pee on something valuable the cat owns. duh.

pee on the cats balls?

Slightly off topic, a drunk college kid pee'd on my Super Nintendo back when I was in college. It, too, didn't work properly afterwards.

At least I got me a new Super Nintendo and Super Mario All-Stars out of the deal.

My roomate in college in a drunken stupor pissed on my television. He actually got up and went over to it thinking it was the toilet. In his embarassment and shame the next day he refused to acknowledge that he did it (even though I saw him) so to top it all off I had to clean it. Sorry for going OT. Anyway, the TV still worked ;).

I'm actually quite impressed your cat tried his best to find a litter box in the enclosed room. I've got one with some sort of problem now who goes all over the place. It is not fun. And yet I had one on her deathbed from cancer last year who would drag herself across the house to use the litter even though she was pumped up with IV/subcutaneous fluids nearly all the time. They's just different...

On the more positive note I leave you with this little anecdote: I have another cat who is sometimes a pain in the ass, but a few years ago when I moved from Arizona to Oregon I drove him with me in the second car.
I wanted to do the drive in 2 days so that meant a VERY long drive each day with the one overnight stop in Fresno. I got to Fresno at 10 or 11 pm and was starved since I barely stopped during the day since it was mid-summer and couldn't leave him in the car for more than a minute or two without the air on. I also had to get a hotel room that would accept pets. I stopped at a Taco Bell and grabbed some food. I put the bag of food and a stack of napkins on the front passenger seat on top of a towel that covered various valuables I had with me that I didn't trust to the moving company. Then I went into a hotel to check in. When I came back the car stunk to high heaven - yep, he took a dump. But upon closer inspection my cat had gone perfectly right on top of the stack of napkins. I mean, the guy had probably been holding it for hours but when I stopped and got out he couldn't take it any more. I was very impressed that he didn't just go under a seat or something. Anyway, very easy to clean. And that's my cat crap story ;)
. Sorry, horribly off topic now...

that is nothing

i remember in my college days, someone in my dorm left their door open on a friday night, and in the morning they found some random dude sitting on their couch, with his pants down around his ankles, and he had taken a dump on the couch. much like your pee on the tv, the couch still worked after that, OK maybe it didnt.
I am no. 1. yes I am!
The best part? All the #1's are making jokes about going #1.

Except for the drunk guy shitting on the couch. But that was a story, not a joke. I still consider it relevant, though, since it related to someone treating a personal belonging like a toilet.

So does that make Dracula's post a #1 about going #2?
how/why exactly now did the cat pee on it?
The cat is clearly supporting Sony in the handheld console wars.

Sony has a handheld console? When the hell did this happen?
Funny thread... too bad it wasn't a dog, then you could say it was playing Nintendo dogs and missed the toilet. lol
You might be onto something... OP, could your cat have been jealous of your copy of Nintendogs or some other virtual pet game (Pet Vet, Dogz, Catz, Horsez, Giraffez, Sea Monkeyz?)

A clear solution is to pee on your DS before your cat does. If you'd already marked your territory then he would have known it wasn't up for grabs.

Why am I up so late?
Sony has a handheld console? When the hell did this happen?
Yeah...I heard that you can watch movies on it.
They come on these cute little discs.

Gotta admit, even I find the PSP-bashing a little outdated, and I used to be quite biased.

But, I got one on the cheap, and really enjoy it (and it doesn't even have custom firmware yet). Much like the PS3, the only real issue I take with it is the MSRP (launch anyway; $170 is more reasonable, and should have been the price to begin with). Mine was only $100, and I have no regrets.

Could this thread be more derailed? Didn't think so. Better make a urine joke to get back on topic...

Too bad it wasn't a PSP that was whizzed on, then we could call it a Pee-Station Portable.

I can't speak for Ice2Dragon, but I wasn't bashing. I love my PSP. But it was an opportunity for a laugh so I took it.

PM me the price and some pics of it and we might be able to start something here :D

Seriously though ... interested if it doesn't smell anymore

I say if you can get $50 for the cat used then it's a good deal.

That bites. One time when i was a little I spilled milk on my Original GB and I turned it off real quick dried it the best i could and let it dry for a couple of weeks . When I went to turn it on the volume didnt work. So my mom made me throw it out :(

 I have a moron on another forum that claims his cat is turning into a zombie and tried to kill him, that pic will work there too. Thanks.

GRRRRR

I got the tri wing... disassembled it to the point I could take a good look at both sides of the motherboard.. and I can't see shit that's wrong with it.

It was in idle mode for Mario Cart for GBA for over an hour... but I put a DS game in it and it dies within a minute. F this crap.

On the PLUS side, BOTH moisture sensitve stickers were still showing 'dry'... hmmm wonder how much a 'it's f'd up, but would be convered under warrenty if the warrenty hadn't expired' costs.

mike, ebay it for a ridiculous sum of money, buy new DS, buy other stuff with surplus cash, and dont forget to thank me.

problem solved
