So I know were all happy that Bush is gone and Barry is in. But what would you like to see change over the next 4 years. I don't care how silly it is, or how far fetched it is, just name a few things you'd like to see change over the next 4-8 years. Try to limit it just to a few, here are mine, use it as an example and then tell me how big of an idiot I am when you disagree ;) Really, I just want a general feel for what CAGs would like to see changed, no matter how big or small it is.

1. Abolish the Fed, private banks controlling money, how could that possibly be bad?

2. Two term limits for Congress, we do it for Presidents, yet we let Congressmen serve for decades and then complain about how bad congress is.

3. Take away birthright. You can't be born in El Paso and get a 1-way ticket to America, one parent should be a citizen. I think simple reforms like this can be big deterrents for illegal immigration.

4. Entitlement program reforms. I'm highly doubtful I'll see a dime of the money I've put into Social Security and Medicare, This has to be addressed in the next 8 years regardless, projections on the funds for these programs are bleak at best.

I think your list is a good start, especially 1 and 3.

The most pressing and important change we need is to not only abolish the Fed, but to completely overhaul our monetary system, no matter how painful it is.

I would like to change the way we actually solve problems, or attempt to solve problems, in this country. It would be nice if we did something other than blindly throwing money at a problem.

1. More diplomatic approach to foreign policy. i.e. quit playing world police. Get out of Iraq as soon as possible (but not too early so it devolves into something worse than it was when we started)

2. Be smart with the budget. Don't cut taxes and increase spending as Bush did. Cut useless programs, improve ones that work so they work better. Raise taxes if needed to help get the budget back in check (or just repeal the Bush tax cuts for the upper income brackets).

3. Find away to improve our education system.

4. Find away to improve our health care system, get costs down, premiums down etc.

5. Do everything we can to promote alternative energy--both to get off of our dependence on foreign oil and to help reduce pollution. This will take decades but we need to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible.

6. Do what we can to revitalize inner cities and get crime down and quality of life up. Fixing schools will help. Reducing unemployment will help. But it will take more than that and there's really no answers on how to do it.

7. Reform immigration policy so more people can get in legally. If there's all this demand for illegal laborers then we have plenty of jobs for more legal immigrants. Couple this with better border security and more strict dealing with illegal immigrants once these reforms are in place (probably can't do much with those already here though).

Those are few big ones off the top of my head. Will add more if I think of any later.

Agreed with all points, excepting 3. Removal of birthright for everyone. Require service to become a citizen. Service not just in the military, but optionally in another capacity, as an aide to a legislator, filing documents in a local courthouse, heck, even picking up trash on the side of the road.

Make citizenship mean something. Make us earn the right to vote.

I'm not sure what you mean by 1. The wording seems off to me. As for 2, add years in there for Supreme Court Justices as well.

OT, but I wouldn't change their website. It looks awesome, and even has a frigging blog with YouTube videos. (having worked in the private sector here, it just seems mind-blowing to me)

Those that have crunched the real numbers on the economy and where we have already passed laws committing money in the next 20 years, say that repealing the Bush tax cuts and even raising taxes won't even begin to cover it. It's not even a drop in the bucket of what's needed - Unless we go to something like 80% income tax, then that's a noticeable dent.

Oh I have no delusions of balanced budgets or eliminating the debt any time soon, if ever. But that doesn't mean they can't be smart and limit deficits as much as possible each year.

Make working for the government a respectable job again -- for people who really want to work for the good of their country and solve the difficult issues we face, not just for the job security.

How is working for the gov't not respectable? Is the money going to be there? No. But the holidays, vacation, and medical benefits are priceless.

Someone's a fan of Starship Troopers.

Agree'd with Dmaul.

Wow... all the problems with my country that I love and I only get to change one thing?

Hmmmm

I'm debating between opening up trade to countries we're being dicks to or changing our national anthem...

I'll go with the Anthem. Star Spangled Banner is out, America the Beautiful is in.

In all seriousness, I think logically our money would be worth more if we would allow EVERY COUNTRY to buy our goods. I mean, it's not like selling bread to North Korea is going to help them nuke us anymore then selling Cuban Cigars in the US is going to cause us to turn into a bunch of pinkos.

Let's fix the welfare system so it's not as easy for people to abuse.
I'd also like to see Obama call out Blacks like Bill Cosby does. Maybe they'll listen to him.

Oh, and of course I'd like have equal rights for gays :) But yeah that's pushing it!

Get us the f*ck out of Iraq and Afghanistan and bring our troops home from the 70 countries they currently reside in. Use them to defend the borders and ports which are wide open..and real threats to us.

Hey, you butt pirates HAD a president and you blew it... no pun intended. No civil rights for you. ;)

*hint, the gay president's name rhymes with "buttcannon"

You forgot the glorious pension. Seriously, you can do way worse than a government job.

When the hard work and research of career government employees are absolutely ignored by political appointees as was the case during the Bush administration, many of my friends (and myself included) decided to go to the private sector.

Why waste our expertise and effort when it would fall on deaf ears?

Such instances happened with alarming frequency at the EPA and DOE.

Completely removing energy as a significant cost variable (and pollutant) is the next great leap forward (per se), the landing on the moon. Everything, all business models, the economy, science, politics, environmental issues, you name it, it would change if by 2020 we were wholly independent of the need for energy from others.

Drive all efforts towards that future.

And then the Middle East can go back to doing whatever it is they do over there.

1. take away all privileges for political parties (recognition by government such as listing the party name on ballots, party recognition and structure in Congress, public financing of campaigns, etc.)
2. develop and put into place a plan to cut the size of the federal government by 75-80% over the next 10-15 years
3. abolish the Department of Education (part of 2. above) and return all educational responsibilities to states and localities where they belong

Tip of the iceberg really.

Service guarantees citizenship. Would you like to know more?

Edit: Hex beat me to it.
