gamestop has a listing for it, it now has O3 as the publisher and show the release date as end of the month. For those that remembered, this game features characters from Shadow Hearts, Growlanser, Gungrave, Spectral Souls, and other Japan only games. Hopefully it wont get delay as it is pretty close to release and there is also nothing about it.

The following characters are set to make an appearance in the game:

Hyouma Kusaka (original character): The game's protagonist. His looks, tone and hobbies are all bad. He quickly gets bored by things that he can do easily.

Hayatemaru Mudouin (original character): The game's female led loves fighting games and is an excellent fencer. She also happens to be very rude.

Shizuku Tamaki (original character): Syizuku is Hyouma's classmate. He calls the latter his partner, but is not liked by Hyouma. Syizuku acts if he was from Kansai and loves comedy.

Leen (original character): The young girl is a Gate Master capable of opening warp gates.

Souji Okita (Shinsengumi Gunrouden, RED Entertainment)

Grave (Gungrave series, RED Entertainment)

Mika (Gungrave series, RED Entertainment)

Melvina (Growlanser series, Atlus)

Tippi (Growlanser series, Atlus)

Ur (Shadow Hearts series, Aruze)

Aris (Shadow Hearts series, Aruze)

Joachim (Shadow Hearts series, Aruze)

edit: now gamestop exclusive http://www.siliconera.com/2008/03/17/chaos-wars-to-be-gamestop-exclusive/

Gamestop seems to be the only ones who ever made any mention of this happening at all. My understanding is that the original rumor or "confirmation" was from someone at Gamestop.

I dont believe there has been any official public announcement from O3, or any media source that can cite that this is actually happening without citing just the one original rumor. The O3 entertainment website seems to know nothing about it.

I dont think any other retailers have a listing for it either. Also, no box art and as far as I can tell, no ESRB rating.

When the date on GameStop is listed as the first or last Tuesday of the month, and there has been no official press releases confirming the date, chances are that the date is just a placeholder.

That's my rule.

It will be cool if it does, I still have the advertisements from Famitsu on the HD somewhere, I just thought it was beyond cool to be able to play as Yuri and Grave in the same game.

Shame that Namco x Capcom couldn't show up as well, especially since this one is a multi company (characters) liscenced game.

Here's hoping. (crosses fingers)
looks like it is now a gamestop exclusive.
Thats fine will me as long as the damn thing eventually comes out.
MSRP $40 is kinda expensive. I wonder it'll drop down $20 someday !!! :)
HOW!???!!?! MSRP for games now are $60. damn ur such a cheapass ( not in a cheapassgamer way but a ass gamer) . you said this about Ar Tonelico and the price jumped.

well thats about the price for most new PS2 games. Seeing how it will probably only get one shipment, there is a good chance it will be gone before a price dorp.
This got a pretty low score from Famitsu, 26/40. They inflate their grades so much that generally anything below 30 is 95% guaranteed ass.
Yeah but like all the great reviewing communities Famitsu even though they are very reputable in the scene is just as guilty now of jumping on big popular titles like the rest of them and nailing the coffin shut on no name company games. Even though the companies are much more popular in Japan then in the states it is still somewhat bias.

If anything get your own opinion buy purchasing it. I think I would rather spend my money taking a shot with a new SRPG franchise then say the same money on Baroque. Overall it is all up to you, but be warned this is not going to get a huge print so this one my be a pain to get if you do not pre-order.

Pre-order, wait for the general opinion, cancel preorder or go with it.

Doesn't make sense to have Shadow Hearts characters in this game, it's a completely different art style and setting/tone. Not to mention battle system and whatnot. Maybe I am just no fun, but playing with Shadow Hearts characters without the Judgment Ring (the best RPG mechanic ever) just wouldn't feel right.
The updated Gamestop site now has the game listed for a 5/13/08 release.
YES! more time to save up!!!!!!!

LOL, before I even clicked to read this thread I was thinking "Say, isn't it time this game was pushed back again?"

Just a quick heads up to all the CAG's getting this game I preordered it a few weeks ago and low and behold in my mail box today comes a offer for free 3 day shipping, so I was like well hell, I'd like to save a few bucks on it so I tried to alter it online, but to no avail.

So I called up their order line and had the rep go and alter it, so now I got free shipping and didn't have to cancel my original order to do that (I thought I might have to in the beginning).

Anyway here's the code I got on the flyer in the mail today if anyone is interested.

FREE3DAY (exactly like that)

Hope that helps, even if it's just a few bucks, cheers. :)

Can't wait for the release. If I hear its crap, I'll just keep it in it's original casing and let it sit until it becomes rare.
Also, i agree with refused, more time to get money =P

What is the gameplay suppose to be like? Is it like disgaea or FFT? Or is it something totally new and if so anyone got any insight on what it is like?

more like generation of chaos

If Chaos Wars is anything similar to Generation Chaos, it plays like a board game with Dragon Force battle system. You get a group of soldiers and leaders duke it out for territory.

Although Generation Chaos seem like a promising game, it is loaded with lots of flaws. In Dragon Force you can group a set of commanders to your next destination. In Generation of Chaos you can't group your commanders instead they go solo. This can be very annoying when you have to fend off multiple leader with one person. Another annoying feature in Generation Chaos, troops are incredibly imbalanced. You will always pick the units with higher base stats and when progress pretty far in game, your troops does little to no damage towards the leader. In Dragon Force, all troops are useful with their own pros and cons. Troops also deal more damage towards leaders, so you have to think more strategically to fend off enemy AI. Another big flaw in Generation Chaos is very poor unit collision. Units have a tendency to walk to each other making it impossible to hit you or your enemy. Even missile units have no unit collision. Only the front lines can attack, while the rear does nothing.

I hope Chaos Wars will fix all these problems. Dragon Force is my top 10 favorite rpg because there is no game like it except this. With Working Design out of picture, I doubt Sega will re-release Dragon Force for ps2 with it's financial limbo. Another publisher like Atlus could retain the rights to publish it which is extremely low considering other remake niche game like Brigandine, Tales of Destiny 2 or Nights never came stateside.

Looking at IGN's preview, it's more like Phantom Brave/Makai Kingdom (with GoC-styled special attacks), as it's a gridless SRPG. IMO, that's a good thing, as Generation of Chaos was an interesting game, but wasn't that much "fun" to play. Battles were resolved by telling your army to move forward, and then you sat and waited for it to be over. You could not have the AI simulate the battle for you to save time, as you needed to manually use your general's special moves, which, for the above-average generals, would take out the entire opposing army.

In a way, it was like chess, as you needed to plan far ahead in order to do well in the least amount of time. It's just that, for GoC, there never a feeling of satisfaction for completing anything. You would just continue on until you had completed the game, and were done with it.

Thankfully, this thread is about Chaos Wars, and not Generation of Chaos. I'm looking forward to picking it up once it comes out, assuming it doesn't get delayed on June 2nd.

im Banking on Tuesday more into Wednesday like the above guy said the original date was the 3rd and im thinking this whole 5/30 thing was a hiccup on the EB/GS site due to all the gamer days sale crap they were adding...

Hopefully this damn game comes out!

When a new item comes out it always says back order when the pre-orders are shipping then it goes to "ships in 24 hours" online and usually the stores have it the next day... Thats what I observed over the last few years.

I picked it up earlier today. I haven't gotten to play too much of it, but it seems pretty fun so far. Not sure if it's entirely worth it's price tag, but I'm still into it.

Anyone else get it? How are you enjoying it?
After hearing enough first impressions I decided to not pick up my preorder.
Could be that the issue is moot, as some GS's are apparently selling preordered copies to walk-ins instead of holding them.

Hopefully, it's an isolated incident. Well, they did give priority to walk-ins when GTAIV hit, IIRC.

I also picked it up today, along with an exercise ball. I hope the game turns out to be at least as fun as the exercise ball is.

Still need to get this. Only some in 2 locations near me. Might buy odin Sphere though. Don't know if its worth the price tag. Maybe after playing this, I'll have the inspiration to play the games where the crossover characters came from.

Sounds like a plan. Definitely pick up Odin Sphere. It's artistic design is worth the price of admission alone. The biggest thing holding it back is that the framerate gets ugly when there's a lot happening on screen. Still worth checking out though, if only to admire its aesthetics (not that it's not a fun game - it is).

Also, to my knowledge, the only games available in the US that feature the crossover characters from Chaos Wars are Gungrave: Overdose and the Shadow Hearts series. Gungrave:OD you can skip; but the Shadow Hearts games, of which there are three installments, are certainly worth a look.
