Chaos Wars - featuring characters from Shadow Hearts - now GS exclusive
Sounds like a plan. Definitely pick up Odin Sphere. It's artistic design is worth the price of admission alone. The biggest thing holding it back is that the framerate gets ugly when there's a lot happening on screen. Still worth checking out though, if only to admire its aesthetics (not that it's not a fun game - it is).

Also, to my knowledge, the only games available in the US that feature the crossover characters from Chaos Wars are Gungrave: Overdose and the Shadow Hearts series. Gungrave:OD you can skip; but the Shadow Hearts games, of which there are three installments, are certainly worth a look.
It contains chracters from Growlanser also and there might be some from the Spectral Souls they had on the PSP..

You're right about Gungrave: Overdose but the original Gungrave is also available on the PS2 and I LOVED that game. Very fun third-person shooter.
This game has the worst voiceacting I've ever heard:
http://kotaku.com/5013753/this-jrpg-voice-acting-is-not-so-good
At first, it wasn't so bad...compared to the poor effort they put into translating the game. Then, I heard the others speak. It sounds like they were put into a room, given the scripts to read for the first time, told to do a practice run, and then shown the door.

Between the battle system, voice acting, and translation, I have yet to hear anything positive about this game. Anyone have anything good to say about this game?

lol according to gamefaqs it looks like the voice acting was done by relatives of the localization team.

Anybody playing this game beside me? I think those bad acting clips scarred most people from buying this game. Before this game even came out I was expecting a bad storyline already. Any game that have brands from different companies into one game, have same story- jumping into another dimension. And when you factor crappy English dubs, localization, low budget and company not well know for making rpgs, you know voice acting will be bad. But I wasn't expecting this big of train wreak. There is little or no attempt on voice acting with no emotions.

At least the game play is pretty solid with game mechanics more similar to Makai Kingdom. But if I have choice to play between the two I rather play Makai Kingdom instead for better story. I could careless about 30+ playable character that I don't even know beside Shadow Hearts characters.

I'm still playing it. Sure, the English VA is brutal, but since you can change it, I don't care. It's game play is pretty solid. I'm not glued to it, but I don't regret it. My only real complaint is that it's too easy to keep my full attention.

I agree. This game isn't as bad as it appears if you stick with English Subtitles. The game play is pretty solid since it combines elements from different rpgs with a different spin. Still game play isn't enough to carry this game to be totally glue on, you still need a decent story with some charismatic characters to develop an emotion connection to them. Some games are exception like Jump Ultimate Stars or Marvel vs Capcom that have same bs story, but the game play is so great it overshadows it.

98 times out of 100 I play games w/ the sound off anyway. (especially if the wife and baby are still downstairs) I get so frustrated when games -don't- have subtitltes.

This game is perhaps the worst voice acting in video games or at least top 10. Even simple words or phrases aren't pronounced properly like summon or yeah. If anybody interest in list of super bad video game voice acting go to audio actrocites. I play a few of those games and they deserve being there or nominated. Remember game like Resident Evil 1, Castlevania Symphony of Night, Castle Shikigami 2 or Shining Force III? Great games. Bad voice acting. The same can be apply to this game. At least you have dual audio in this game. Majority of audio actrocites list doesn't even have that option.
O3 is a small publisher and wont be able to hire talent like Atlus or Square Enix. You can just use the Japannese Voice acting. Also SCEA's polcy requires English voice actor so they have to throw in bad VA or no VA at all.
I think you may be on to something there. It's that same stupid policy that made Atlus strip out the Japanese VA in Arcana Heart. I can picture that they threw in the English voice acting using the cheapest method they possibly could so that they could give us the option of using the Japanese.

Anyway, this will be the first time I've ever used the Japanese voice option in a game. It will be interesting to see if I like it.

I'll buy it when theres a price drop for the gameplay and have the Jap VA on.

Holy fucking shit....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAtC1SzWSXg

WHY is Nicholas (original Japanese)/Nicolai (American translation) translated as NICOLE?! That's 100% a GIRL'S NAME. HOLY SHIT.

Also, it's Kallen (original Japanese) or Karin (American translation). At least they got Uru right, that's Yuri's original Japanese name. And don't even get me started on the voice acting....

/uptight fan of Shadow Hearts

Well this is the only real Chaos Wars thread I came across and wanted to say that it is finally not in stock anymore on the EB/GS site...

Well I absolutely hate this game with the slowness and how they destroyed Yuri.....

So I called EB/GS and after the Edge they will give $15.40 :booty: and for the hell of it I called Gamecrazy and the guy told me they won't even take it because it's not in the system because it was EB/GS exclusive..

If anyone can get a trade-in quote from some other stores and post them it would be great seeing all the stores in my area seem to have idiots working tonight and I even had the same dumb EBgames employee hang up on me 2 times in a row trying to put me on hold....

$35 shipped any takers :bouncy:

I'm surprised they'd even give $15.40 for it honestly.

If you have an eBay account and are willing to ship internationally, I hear it's selling for like $50.

It's funny because it seems like they have little faith in even the "Exclusive" titles they have because they give more credit for Persona 3 FES and it even cost's less new.

I would like to get my money back for it but in all honesty I would be happy with like $30. I really only stay in the States with Ebay and CAG I dont want to deal with the shipping headaches and filling out all the forms in the Post office

I dont understand why people are tryig to sell this the way they are. This game is not common and still selling well on ebay. I also wouldnt be suprised if it ended up being a $60-$80 game in the long run.

I'm gonna buy this game when it hits 10-15 dollars. I can't pass this game up at that price.
Wait a minute, the VO's aren't a joke?
You can bet your Tengaia on it.

I was able to find a new copy of Chaos Wars at my GS today but it was shrink wrapped instead of y-fold sealed.
The employee told me it wasn't a display copy. (In fact, they actually have another display copy on the shelf)

Has this happened to anyone else?

TIA
