Anyone know good website for the cheapass traveler?

I'm looking for flights, tips for renting vehicles or even cheap hotels rooms! I'm planning a trip with a couple of friends out of state so I'm checking out our options! :)

I use farechase.com for tickets. They check multiple carrier websites and some of the deal sites all at once and find you the cheapest rate.

first, farecast.com has fare price predictions, suggesting when to buy tickets (1 month before, 1 week before, etc). I have personally found that either Southwests.com or United.com get me the cheapest tickets (although I have not tried calling southwest, but united tends to be more expensive on the phone than online).

For hotels, I would try bidding on hotel rooms (I believe several sites offer this). My grandparents and I recently stayed in a 3.5 star hotel for $75 (total) a night in downtown DC.

Finally, if you want really cheap, try hostels, although sometimes there are age restrictions and curfews, so be careful with that.

For Extremely cheap, try couchsurfing.com, where you go stay in some random person's place (though I like this because they will be local, often have time for you, and know what is fun in the area that most touristy types don't get to do). This is in the states and international, but typically takes some advanced planning as well.

for rental cars, clark howard was mentioning a way to get cars for a few dollars a day, but is dependent on where you rent them and then take them to (as an alternative to flying). The rental car companies use you to transport cars to high demand areas.

ClarkHoward.com usually has decent tips and tricks on traveling, so I would look that up to!

good luck!
kayak.com does a pretty good job of searching and sorting airline prices
Yeah, I like using kayak (and sometimes mobissimo), checking off all the comparison sites, and looking at the difference.

Well, I actually check jetblue first and southwest second and fly with them if possible. Then I do the kayak/mobissimo thing, take the best price and compare with the price on that airline's website.

Then (even though I'm probably going to lose my seats to cheapassgamers now), I go to seatguru and figure out what seat I want to reserve.

For hotels and cars, I do the same thing at kayak.com and then checking the hotel's website. Car websites used to have good deals, but I've found that it isn't the case much anymore.. I also found that hotwire has great prices on cars, but they're nonrefundable.

Virgin Atlantic was having a sale going from across the country depending on your destination. We are flying from LA to DC for under $180 a piece. Definitely worth checking out. Other than that Kayak.com or sometimes calling the airlines direct has worked in the past. Good luck and safe travels!

I hear very good things about virgin atlantic too, but they don't fly to many places the last time I checked

Hotwire is good because it is used to fill unbooked rooms that would be a net loss anyways.

I had an Eiffel Tower view for 100 a night in the Paris Hilton (That's right, I had a Night in Paris too) Nuff Said.
