It was $60 for me and insanely hard to find at that price. The ebay prices were high when the drop occurred so resellers found em fast.

America gets shitty CE/LE's because we buy them. People see a steelbook or some cheap artbook and want it so they buy it. Why would game companies on the whole sell us shit unless we keep buying it?

What gets me is how many people buy them with the intent on making money later. As if games somehow will make you a millionare in 20 years or something. I see the same thing in the comic shop I work in, a issue 1 of something comes out and people snatch it up thinking if they never read it or touch the interior they will get rich off it. Games are like any collection. There is money to be made if you're hot off the track with something the first couple of weeks, then prices fall like a rock, then a few years later it might be worth something again. Take for example, Final Fantasy 7, the black label version. It was worth something when it first came out and was a little hard to find, than it fell, and up until it was re released on PSN it was worth quite a bit. Fable 3 CE seemed to be that way too. Fairly limited run, and it was worth a little hot off the release, but after the Best Buy clearance, it went down again. I'm sure it'll regain some value though. Oh, don't forget MVC2 SE, that was crazy valuable its launch week, and a few weeks after. I'm not really sure if that went down in price yet...

My picks for quick resale CEs should be pretty obvious but that Duke Nukem CE is very limited, and each one is numbered, so that'll help its value. And, depending on how readily available Mortal Kombat is, its special edition will be worthwhile for at least the first week. Oh, and of course, Mass Effect 3's inevitable SE will be gold for a very long time, more so if you can sell it with all of the previous SEs.

I just came across 4 (now 3) Fallout 3 CEs at a walmart in northern IL. Lunchbox, bobblehead, making of dvd and an art book. $29.99 and im sure YMMV as its been quite a while since I've seen these in the wild.

Wow, at Walmart? Yeah I'd love a SKU too if you have one and a way to search for that (don't have a walmart link for searching inventory).

Was it in a clearance section or just with all the other 360 games?
 
It was in a glass case on the endcap with other budget title overflow stock. The 09 sports games and other clearance stuff was elsewhere. There was a black ops prestige edition there as well but I didnt check price.
 
I got one of those at a Walmart about six months ago, and I remember them having more. It should be out there if you search for it.
 
Also a question: I noticed people posting about deals on CEs at Target, but the two Targets near me don't seem to have any CEs anymore except Reach Limited Edition. Everything else they have that's in a bigger box is a game that requires an add-on, i.e. Tony Hawk with the skateboard or a dance game. Did Target eliminate all CEs with their new setup? They used to have all the games in a row of big cases, a la Walmart, but now it's all on separate rows.
 
A lot of trilogies and collections were released for the PS2 as box sets a few years back.

Does anyone have a complete list of these?

i.e. Metal Gear The Essential Colledciton, Mortal Kombat Kollection, Hitman Trilogy

Is it really "very limited"...? I notice its still available for preorder on all three platforms, on both Amazon and Gamestop.

I'm kind of wondering about this too. There was a rumor a while back that the Duke BoS edition was limited to 2,000 units or something like that. I'm not sure where that started, but it seemed to coincide with the couple week time frame when Amazon stopped taking pre-orders for it. That's when I rushed to put in my pre-order at GameStop thinking that there was something to those rumors.

As more time goes by and the pre-orders remain available I grow more skeptical that it will be limited. The fact that it comes with a numbered certificate really doesn't mean much if the production numbers themselves aren't actually limited.

What LE/CE would you say was the most over-produced and biggest bust for this gen of consoles?

My vote would be for any of the Halo Legendary Editions or Bioshock 2.

Bioshock 2 is probably a contender...clearanced out at Target, and there are copies still laying around at Best buy, Walmart, Gamestop etc.

I was also thinking of the Halo 3 helmet (I picked up a second when they hit $19, IDKW).

IIRC, it was both "limited" and "numbered," as such, saying so means nothing to me- unless the number to be produced is stated upfront (e.g. limited to 10,000).
 
well to be fair, Bioshock 2 SE was supposed to be mass produced. Halo 3 CE was supposedly limited and numbered, but they forgot to mention it was limited to planet earth because everyone and their mother got one on discount, and probably can still find them in a store somewhere.

Need for Speed Collection for PS2 released as a 3 game box set. I found some sealed at Wally World for $30 and bought and sold one for $70. :D

I have a feeling if you got to search the back of some Walmarts, you'd find all sorts of amazing/cool/hilarious stuff, especially in the ones in the middle of nowhere (i.e. where I live).

Actually I found it locked up (all alone), behind the glass, next to the Halo 3 Collector's Edition/MGS Essential Collection.

Black Ops hardened is sold out online, and you can't buy two Black Ops prestige cuz quantitiy is limited to one per cart.
