Cheap and Old Collector's Editions

Fernando Rocker

CAGiversary!
I saw a thread talking about the new upcoming CE games, and obviously the prices are MRSP.

So, I created this thread to easily identify old and cheap CE games.
I'm pretty tempted to pick up the Brotherhood CE, but the stores aren't moving the stock of them, even at $55. Maybe when it hits $35.

I'm excited for the Killzone Heighast Edition to go on sale - I can't believe how many are rotting on the shelves at Best Buy.
this. I actually saw quite a few at my GS's Im waiting on it to hit about 30 bucks like the new vegas one did
Yeah, coulda woulda shoulda. On the drive home I was really pissed and still am, but when it happened I was actually more dumbfounded because I just couldn't believe the words coming out of his mouth since he said them as if it was really a pretty straightforward thing. As much as I come to expect stupid crap when going to GS I just wasn't mentally prepared for that level of stupidity and obtuseness. I really wouldn't have been more surprised if the guy had pulled out an icepick and slowly inserted it all the way into his ear with a shit-eating grin on his fact the whole time. Like something out of a Stephen King story, I just wanted to get out of there before it got even more f-ed up.

But I've been to other GS's with other very helpful people (at least as helpful as they can be while working at GS), so I sometimes still stop by one every once in a while. But not that store...never again.
lol well thats the only reason i still shop at the store occasionally. Theres one near my house that actually has some cool employees.. well, it used to. They got a new manager thats one of those all about corporate guys and the store has been going downhill ever since he got there. Im pretty sure it will be complete shit soon

Still, you REALLY should have left a bad survery for the guy. Even ignoring all the other crap, they told you it was there and complete and it WASN'T you wasted a lot of time and gas, thats utter crap. I see several people mention they have gotten people in trouble or even fired with those things. I am aware that they take them seriously because theyre always pushing me to fill them out.

I never do because i straight up asked one of the guys at the store if it reflects on them or the store in general. Because i enjoyed the service he gave but hated the store, he said its about the person that sells you the item. So if you were to give low scores it would hurt the person who sold you the items, not just be a gripe about GS.

blea, anyway all this GS talk reminds me i need to check the reciept for the dead rising 2 CE i bought. it was 50 bucks but isn't worth that to me, ive been watching amazon for it to hit

The Tron Evolution Collector's edition is $40.36 at Amazon right now. It's marked down from $129.99 for both the 360 and the PS3. I'm not surer if there's any interest as the game and the statue are both supposed to be pretty bad, but it is quite a markdown.

http://www.amazon.com/TRON-Evolutio...VD58/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1305282833&sr=8-3

If someone wants to edit it into the OP, go for it, if not I'll add it later when I'm not on an iPad.
Sometimes (actually, most of the time) GS really sucks balls. I had called several GS's to find a hard-to-find game and was told one place had it. I asked it was new and unopened and was told it was new but had been opened and still included original box and manual.

Well, I drove over an hour round trip only to find they only had the disk...no case, no manual...nothing but the disk, but they were still insisting on selling it at the new price ($29.99) even though the used price was $4.99.

While their gutted box crap is already nearly intolerable, this was just over top insanity. "Yes, we are a retail store that is selling you a game that doesn't include the manual, box or cover art, but since it is showing up in our computer as "new" we are going to charge you the new product price even though it comes with less than what most used games come with.".

So regarding your experience, nothing even remotely surprising about that in the least.
I had this exact same experience, except luckily the GS was just across the street from where I work so it wasn't much of a wasted drive. I laughed in the guy's face when he told me the disk-only game was still "new".

Any self respecting GS manager would have taken it and moved it to used just to get rid of it. It's one thing to have a gutted game, another to have disc only.

Gotta love GS the only place you pay MORE for a used gutted game than the same game brand NEW on clearance at Target, Sears, Kmart, etc.

Point in case, I picked up the Beatles RB at target for $13 while the used version w/o the manual was $29.99 at my local GS. When every store near me has SW:tfu for $19.99 new, GS has it for that same price USED!

I feel like Corky from that early 90's show; "Becka, I dun't Undersstaand?"

DOnt know where to post this so i figured this would be a good place, but BB in Wichita KS, has like 20 KZ3 collectors editions on sale for $89. I dunno if the price is world wide or what not but this was the price when I just left there just over 5 minutes ago.
Any self respecting GS manager would have taken it and moved it to used just to get rid of it. It's one thing to have a gutted game, another to have disc only.
Chances are if you're working at GS, you said goodbye to your self-respect a while ago :)

Just picked up the last copy of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Limited Edition from Gamestop for $29.99. Today is a good day! :)

So i was visiting my Grandfather for his bday today. And figured id check out the GS in his town since im rarely out there. It was a really nice one. Much larger than any near me, and clean.. no little kid or fat nerd BO, like a lot of them have.

I found some great collectors editions. I found the MGS peacewalker limited edition which ive been looking for for a while. It was in perfect condition. It was a little weird, when i asked the guy if he had any he said they did but they couldn't sell it.. when i pressed him and asked why, he claimed it was damaged or something and they couldn't sell it.. i wouldnt let it go though and kept questioning him so he went in the back and said there was a 2nd one and brought it out.. i dunno if he was trying to hold it for himself or what, but i didnt let 'we cant sell it' slide. Persistance payed off

I also got a MINT copy of record of Agarest war. I have NEVER seen one in that condition anywhere. Im talking perfectly mint, not a single dent or crushed bit. I snagged it up too. They also had a copy of Brothers and Arms hells highway, which i normally wouldnt' be interested in but for 30 bucks i was down with it. Final good buy was Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. They have it for 14 bucks i guess which was cool.

thats it for the LE's They also had a copy of baten kaitos origins complete which was cool and i got a few other random games

so in total i got
MGS peacealker LE: 29.99
Record of Agarest war LE 39.99
Brothers in arms: Hells highway LE: 29.99

Just wanted to let people know that some GS's do indeed still have the peace walker LE set in stock, and that evidently there are some mint Agarest war LE's out there. That was a real shock. Ive seen like a dozen and this is the first that was perfect. I took some pics

gsdeal1.jpg

gsdeal2c.jpg

The 2nd pic is at a side angle to show that Record of Agarest war is in perfect condition. Ignore the other stuff on the desk =P i gotta clean and sort my room out and the desk was the best place to get a side shot. Im actually considering if i should keep all 3 sealed copies i have now FOr Agarest war, or return the most crushed one back to GS and keep the 2 best ones. I have 1 i got from amazon thats crushed pretty good. One from GS thats slightly crushed on the right side, and this one i just picked up. I think 3 sealed copies is a bit much. I suppose i should return the most crushed one.. but its kinda cool having so many copies! >_<

They actually have a 2nd GS in the city but i didn't know they closed at 6pm on Sunday, so i didn't get there in time before they closed. It was too bad, i really wanted to check their stuff out =(

All the hells highway CEs around here look like they've been through a wood chipper :*( not sure why... they just sit on the shelf. AC:B is the same way. Looks like someone sandblasted them at all 5 nearby GS. Congrats on the score.

One of my Best Buys finally marked down the 360 Alan Wake and Mafia 2 CE's to 35 and 30 respectively. Might see that at some of the stores that have been hold out.

I also picked one of these up yesterday. (Metal Gear). I had to go to Wisconsin to get it, but they also has a Fallout NV CE on PS3 sealed, so that made the trip worth it. I like having an extra to keep sealed!

So regarding your experience, nothing even remotely surprising about that in the least.
omg.... that's f'd up

Over the weekend I picked up Brothers in Arms:Hell's Highway LE for 360 for $30 too. It was in pretty good shape. Last week I got Lego Harry Potter LE for $30 also. It was in perfect shape. I couldn't argue with either of those, so they're now on the shelf!

I was wondering if any of you guys had seen any good deals on the Dead Space 2 CE for PS3? I wasn't expecting to like the series (too gory) but I tried the 1st game on steam for $5 and its been amazing.

Check Best Buy! That's where I picked up my 360 version of it. I paid $40 for it, although it was clearanced at the store I went to.

How is Agarest War? I've noticed that most of the games that hint at having any adult content are pretty have pretty ugly-looking underlying games. I'm curious if they're just trying to push their games out the door by tossing in some partial nudity hoping that sells it. I'm not hating - mostly because I've never played any of these types of games - but that's what it appears to be. I love Japanese games though and anime so I'm curious if the gameplay of any of these titles can actually stand alone without the adult content?

Is anybody else excited to get the Gears of War 3 Epic edition when it inevitably gets marked down to $50? That statue is pretty cool.

Or maybe I'm wrong and the epic edition will actually be limited. It seems like the only LEs/CEs/SEs that are actually worth picking up at release are Blizzard ones.

It won't be limited. It will be mass produced like all the triple A title ones are. The supply will be > the demand for it at the $150 price point.

Yep. Learned my lesson with reach. Preordered the legendary because it was "limited" and it wasn't even close.

The trouble is you'll get some moron like me who will snatch it up on release day just to have it.

Yeah.....that'll be me. For Duke Nukem too....dammit.

I bit the bullet with Reach because I love the Halo franchise so much and I didn't want to wait for a price drop. Same thing will happen with Gears of War 3 most likely. :wall: But we shall see. This winter is gonna kill me already.

I do enjoy the Reach Statue 100x more than that stupid Halo 3 cat helmet. :bomb:

I WANT
Lunar: Silver Star Harmony Limited Edition SEALED around 30$..

no gamestop. cuz i already check.. they only have not sealed one..

does anyone have any Tip!!? please. . . .

If you like Strategy RPGs with hints of a dating sim, you'll enjoy it. The only major downside I could say about Agarest is that you do need to grind quite a bit if you don't want to get your arse handed to you early on.

It's unfortunate that this game (and Hyperdimension Neptunia) got pigeonholed because of the hype made for them. It's actually quite tame, but a lot of fun. Notice the Teen rating on them. Now, Ar Tonelico Qoga is a little dirty but not nearly as a lot of the people were saying about it (look at the CAG threads on it & Neptunia to see what I mean).

actually they had like 3 hells highways but theyw ere all in terrible condition as well. Except for the one i got. Its actually not perfect, the plastic is a little torn on one corner, but the box is fine.

the Agarest war and MGS were absolute mint though which is awesome cuz there the two i want.

actually although i have 3 sealed LE copies of it at the moment plus one sealed regular copy +all extras but soundtrack (from aksys's Japan relief sale), i havent opened any or played them =P Still from what i hear its not nearly as risque as it lets on. It mostly inuendo like

THIS
or
THIS

and some cheezecake shots. The gameplay seems like pretty standard SRPG stuff with the hook being playing across a few generations of players and who you bone down with determining your succeeding players stats, ect. People who ive talked to that played it and enjoy traditional JSRPG's have enjoyed it. The gameplay graphics are pretty good. Nothing super high res, but the models are decent. Its not garbage like spectral force 3 or anything.

Try FRY's. I picked up my 2nd copy to keep sealed from there.

By the way @ the gears of war 3 thing.. ya anyone who doesn't think those are gonna be as insanely mass produced as the Halo reach ones is kidding themselves, theyve been taking preorders on that for a while now

*EDIT*
WTF. Cant you put a youtube video link without it embeding the video in the god damn post? I trie dseveral different combos, including regular cut and paste with html code off, hyperlink with text, everything and it wont friggin post without embeding on the page.

This one is YMMV. I checked my local one because id been keeping an eye out for Alan wake for around that price. It was still $45 bucks. I would have probably got it for that price anyway but they had the shitty spider wrap on all the copies and they were all crushed to hell. They did have dead rising 2 CE for 35 bucks, but only the ps3 version, i want the 360 version so it was a no go

I did wind up getting mafia II CE for $30 though. I actually think i bought it recnetly on amazon, i need to check my pile of games. If so i guess i'll keep the CE sealed

The MAfia 2 Collectors Edition isnt worth it. Just get the Greatest Hits Version (make sure its in a RED CASE and not just a GREATEST HITS STICKER ON IT). This version has ALL DLC on it. That version is MUCH more worth it.

And if you can snag the Alan Wake CE get it. IT is so worth it. One of the coolest CE I've ever gotten.

And for Triple A titles having their Collectors Editions able to be found all over the place. I have 2 games where that didnt happen. COD4 Modern Warfare & MGS4 Limited Edition.

I had the balls of steel edition pre ordered the very minute I saw it announced. Then a couple weeks later I realized no one was sold out of it for any system and then a week later I started looking real close at its contents and realized it was all shit so I canceled my pre order.

Id kind of like the bust and the comic, so Ill just wait for its price to drop and get one then. Shouldnt take long since I think people are getting sick of paying 100 bucks for a deck of cards, a poker chip, some cheap little artbook and other useless shit.

Now that la noire has a 20 dollar credit instead of 15 Ill get it and save the 20 for balls of steel drops in price.

You could use [ code] tags (take out the space obviously), but then people will have to copy/paste the link.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Fry's has the Killzone 3 Helghast Edition for 59.99 (20 cheaper than Amazon). It was that price at two of the Dallas/Fort Worth stores, so hopefully it's the same in your neck of the woods.
Amazon has Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Collector's Edition for $64 as of this posting. Comes with free 2-day shipping if you are a Prime member. Not sure if it's been lower than that or not, but MSRP looks like it was $99.99.

Only 6 left in stock.

I'm confused by the price on this. For the longest time it was $59.99 at Best Buy because I know for a fact I bought a bunch of those when they had their last B2G1 Free promo. I actually bought sets of Dead Rising 2 Zombrex edition, Castlevania Limited Edition and AC: Brotherhood CE all for $59.99 each.

Now all of a sudden best buy has it back at $99.99 two months or so after my store was cleaned out. (They did have it on sale for $54.99 last week).

When I saw them back in stock I thought they must be super cheap and was amazed to see them at retail

I got mine in the same B2G1 sale at Best Buy. It was $59.99 ... And honestly, it's not worth it. I'd prefer to have an AC2 CE. If I can find a really good trade in I'll probably let it go.
Currently, $60 at gamestop for both consoles
Thanks for the head's up. I'm going to wait for the $30 price drop seeing as how every store around me (and quite frankly that I've been to heh) has at least 3 of each console it seems!

Speaking of putting old CE's on clearance, my local BB has a huge stockpile of Halo Reach Legendary that they've been sitting on forever. I wish they'd put those on clearance already.

Yea between Halo Reach, Brotherhood and Helghast collector's editions, you think Best Buy would learn to probably never order nowhere near as many copies as they did.

Well they price them way higher than they should be initially so only a few sell to the hardcore collectors and little rich kids. The rest of us have to wait for them to hit a realistic pricepoint. Seriously though, Brotherhood is down to $39.99 at BB. Does a cheap, plastic jack-in-the box and a super tiny art book really justify a $60 price hike? If you saw those all sold separately in a store, you wouldn't pay more than $10-15 each for the extra items.

It's not like they are numbered, limited editions that spike the value. They're just monopolizing on the extra content. It's pretty sad that they charge so much. I prefer the collector's editions that have really nice extra content for just a small premium over the original edition (+$10-20) ... my favorite that comes to mind is Bioshock 2.

It seems they are just trying to throw stuff in boxes lately that people will buy just to make a crapload of extra cash. Think of it though, BB knocked $40 off that Brotherhood CE several times. Not $10, not $20, but almost half. You gotta wonder how much markup goes into these CE's to constitute such a price hike?

I agree that Bioshock 2 was a fantastic CE and once I saw what it came with decided to preorder it even at MSRP. The other recent CE I did that with was ME2 where I can see may not have been as worth it to many people but I have to admit, Mass Effect is one of my favorite series. I also bought the Fallout 3 CE on release day for similar reasons to Bioshock 2; so much good, real world material! The difference between these purchases and the three we've been talking about is that they're worth it to me and are fairly highly rated series.

Following the Bioshock 2 price drops since it came out is what got me to stop preordering CEs If something with that quality can suffer those market conditions and drop to $30, items like Killzone, Halo and AC:B will for sure make it to a cheap price point.

Now when we start talking about CEs like DA2 where it's just a bunch of ingame stuff? Get the fuck out of here with that crap! Give me tangible items! In the mean time I'll be selling useless DLC codes on ebay for $40-90

Good points bro. I learned my lesson some time ago when certain LE/CE/SE games dropped in price almost a week after release and then what made it worse was the 50%-75% that followed a month or two later.

Personally, I love Capcom's collector's edition as they usually include a Steelbook, artbook and a price hike of only $15-$20 from the regular. The limited editions I stay away from are the ones EA usually releases. Talk about absolute bullshit on their end with only DLC being the incentive. I loved the Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 Collector's editions, but felt shafted with DA2 Signature edition. C'mon EA/Bioware!!

Either way, I'm waiting on the Witcher 2 Collector's edition to hit a much better price point even though it is packed with decent stuff and the game has received good reviews.
