Cheap DVD Player

Of course my DVD player died about 2 days before Christmas, so I couldn't ask for one, plus I got 6 DVDs and my DVD player acts like it has been taken off life support and is taking it's last breaths. Time for a new one!

My last one was a $35 Memorex one, nothing special, and it lasted 4.5 years. A new one would only need to last about as long because in 5 years we most likely will have Sony releasing "Tru-Blu" discs or something lame.

I'm looking for one sub $50, the more features the better. Also the more buttons on the remote the better, less really isn't more. And I thought I saw somewhere a DVD player that has a USB port so you can save things to a memory stick. That would be neat, but not necessary.

Also if this is in the wrong spot, sorry, I was debating if it should be in the DVD section or the "Other Deals" area.

A majority of the Philips dvd players around can be found in B&M stores for $50 or under. You could probably find them on Amazon for much cheaper too. They're nice in that they can be region unlocked and are Divx compatible too. I've had three of them and they're excellent.

I was looking at the Philips ones the other day on Amazon, they were around $50 and seemed nice. The problem with them is the shipping is $17.50 or something insane like that. However i might go shopping tomorrow, so I'll see what there is. Thanks for replying, good to know they are of good quality.

Philips is a fine bargain. I've got two myself -- the DVP 642 and the DVP 5990 -- and am quite satisfied. They play just about anything I throw at them, and from any region, too. The DVP 5990 even adds USB support, so if you have any DivX (or somesuch) files, you don't have to burn them to a CD to play.

Costco occasionally has the 5990 for $42ish.

hook up any FAT32 drive to that baby and you can play the files
convert an External HDD to FAT32 or get a USB flash drive and just plug it in[/quote]

That link just went to the Walmart homepage. :)

I don't know what FAT32 drive is.

What did you do to it? Mine worked great for four years and then slowly died off.

Try this:

www.walmart.com and search:
Philips Progressive Scan DVD Player w/ 1080p Up-Conversion

I previously had a Philips DVD Player and it still works after 5 years of use.

And sorry, but I can't really explain what FAT32 is as well as someone that knows a lot more about computers
simply put it's most Hard Disc Drives are formatted to either FAT32 or NTFS
My Xbox 360 and this DVD player only read FAT32 when plugged through the USB

Thanks everyone, I ended up getting some $30 Philips one from Target, it does everything besides the USB port.

My one complaint with it is in the DVD Menu it's rather loud, and while watching Weeds the player started off not making a sound, but about 15 minutes in it gets a little louder.
