Hi!

I'm about to apply for my first passport in the hopes of planning my first overseas vacation.

This passport thing is new to me....can people suggest a cheap place to get the required photos?

Thanks!

BrerDan

If you have a digital camera, just take your own photo and print it at like CVS or wherever those machines are on quality paper and at the right size. I'm sure someone with knowledge could help you at the store. I know thats what I did.

Pretty sure wallgreens will do it.

Just remember it can take a couple of months to obtain a passport so the sooner the better.

You have to have a "certified" birth certificate in order to get a passport, and in order to get you have to also send in a notarized document stating the you are entitled to get this. These are extras costs that you might not know about. The certified birth certificate costs $14.00 for CA, if you you born in another state the fee might cost more or less. The notary fees might be 10-20 bucks.
AAA did mine. Something like 7 or 8 dollars, I can't remember.
I got mine done at AAA as well, but I remember it being free. It was about two years ago when I had it done.

Avoid walgreens, i work in the lab at a walgreens and the way were supposed to take passports frequently dont work, like the guideline doesnt tell you how far away or anything, so the head size can be off. Honestly I'd just go ahead and fay the extra few bucks to get it done at the passport office, they sill use the ploroid passport camera which gives you an exact line up.

Most places are pretty cheap, I did mine at a local photo place. Nice and cheap although I look like some sort of terrorist.

don't even get me started about passports. I had a trip to Germany last may and realized only a day before my trip that my passport was expired. So i flew down to chicago (from minneapolis) to have them renew it and had to delay my flight a day. And then over christmas break i somehow managed to misplace that same passport and had to fly down there again to renew it in order to catch my flight to Chile. Moral of story: renew and don't lose your passport
