I was wanting to get a 1 Gig or a 512 mb memory card for my psp so that I can put movies and music on it. Anyone know where I can find one?

I wish though sony would stop making everything they make require there own brand of stuff. Like there digital camera's use there own memory "sticks" while basically all the other brands use SD cards. I have a 1 gig SD card for my palm and my digital camera, but it won't work in the psp or anything sony makes. It would have been cool if they would have used SD for the psp.

Sorry for the little rant there, back to the topic. Anyone know where to get a cheap memory stick?

they had one on dell which the old lady never got around to buying me for my bday. 1 gig for 95. they may have the second largest for 65 still. check they cheap ass gaming deals, there was one earlier for 115.

I feel the same way. My Sony digital camera came with a 16 mb Memory Stick which held a lousy 10 pictures at maximum resolution (3.2 megapixels). How can they honestly believe someone would be content with 10 pictures. Why not just drop the memory card and cut the price by $10? Than people could put the money towards 128, 256 or higher stick.

As for the Pro Duo stick, keep watching the forums. I've seen 512 mb for $55, and 1 gb for $95. Another deal will pop up soon hopefully.

And after you upgrade sell your 32 mb on ebay ;)

This proprietary memory stick issue is but more proof of Sony's bent at milking its customer base for extra money.

It could have simply used a Compact Flash or other well-adopted memory card system, readily available at dirt-cheap prices, but that would have chipped away at its profit machine.

It's been doing this for years.

Sony, for instance, could also have included four plug-ins (like every other gaming maching these days) on its PS2, but opted for 2 so it could fatten its earnings (by forcing users to buy an add-on) ... Same with the PS2 hard drive, a pricey peripheral that had huge promise but was launched too late in the development cycle to have any real or lasting value.

Open your eyes, gamers!

OMG! Sony is trying to make money!!! Boycott them!

In all seriousness, if you don't like their practices, don't buy their products. I see no problem with the way they do business.

This isn't about a company that sets out to make a solid product at a fair, honest profit. It's about Sony's predatory practices of stiffing gamers by nickel-diming 'em with worthless (the PSP "value" memory stick, etc.) and/or overpriced (the PS2 hard drive) add-ons -- and effectively limiting gamers' choices in the process.

Clearly, we're fortunate to have a free market. ... and yes, I won't be buying buying Sony's overhyphed, overpriced gaming hardware (and $50 handheld games, for that matter) till the next millenium. ... Xbox and GameCube rule the roost just fine, thank you ...

Still, Sony does kick out some awesome XBR TV sets. Har...

That's exactly what I thought, although I thought the psp look pretty nice. That's how I think they get you though. They make something with a lot of features, but then they rip you on the quality of the product.

I'm not trying to start a flame or anything, but I've never really liked sony for quite some time now. I've been "shaq-fu"ed by them so many times (cd players, boombox's, tape players, mini disc's, tv's, ... the list goes on). That's the reason I don't have the ps1 or ps2 and don't plan on getting one; not even the ps3. I'm also good with my xbox and gamecube.

I would have gotten the DS, but I didn't think it looked worth it and I don't like nintnedo's focus on the young audience (pokemon, animal crossing, nintendogs?!?).

I was thinking though too if Microsoft came out with handheld and made it competitive with the psp, I might end up selling my psp and getting that instead.

Yeah, but anyway sorry for the rant again. Once I get started it's hard for me to stop. What was the subject again? I forgot....

Oh one other thing. I also heard from somwhere (can't remember from where if my life depended on it) but they said that Sony in general also isn't doing very good. Not necessaraly the PS2, but just there electronics, like cd players, tv's and stuff.

I just thought I'd throw that in here too, although it has nothing to do with my original post.

Yeaaaaaah....

If you don’t like Sony, vote with your money. I don’t mind the way they do business, I'm an intelligent consumer and I read the fine print and look online for price quotes and whatnot.

I personally love the PSP, and I have a Sony camera that has a Carl Weiss lens that no other digital camera under $800-$1000 has...

In my eyes, Sony rocks.... and I don’t think its just all about "milking the customer" to why they only support one media.

More medias, more possibilities for issues... having Compact card abilities is just another thing that can get fucked up or not work right. At least with the memory stick they can gear the architecture to the memory stick and nothing else.

As far as the PS2 goes, a lot of HD's wouldn’t of worked in it.... would you rather they just let you put any old one in, only to find that a 4 year old PS2 wont support a 250 gig drive?

Lets be reasonable guys, they could pull an EA and put false advertising on the box, or by out the competition or at least eat up all the resources.... that’s why I vote with my dollars.

I don’t buy EA
No matter what.
