Cheap quality surround speakers?

How much are you looking to spend? So, you basically need FOUR speakers if I understand you correctly?

What Center Speaker do you have (brand wise) and Sub?

Do you want FLOOR speakers or bookshelf or the even smaller satellite cubes?

Circuit City also has some Sony Bookshelf speakers for $45/pair. 120watts peak power.

Also, look for the JBL-N24 speakers...I have a set of those and they are good. I think they may be discontinued though...so it could be had cheap.

I've got Sony centers (front and rear) and a Sony SA-WX700 sub. I'd rather go with bookshelf front surrounds and cube rear surrounds.

I wuold try to keep them matched...that's what most people say. The sony bookshelf may be good for your fronts....it's harder to find cubes though.

All this talk is making me want to upgrade my system (well, just the SUB actually).....agghhhh.

Yea, whats really sad is my media room already has a top-notch system.. this is for the family room....

Damn addiction to shiny electronics.

Question for you.....Is it better to have your Subwoofer hooked up directly to the LFE output and your speakers hooked directly to your receiver?

I currently have my speakers running through my sub then into my receiver....which is ok, sounds decent. I set my Subwoofer "OFF" on my receiver for this setup. I forget if my sub actually has a direct connetion LFE output. I want to rewire everything, but not sure if it's worth the time and hassle. I may have to get longer speaker wire too for my speakers.

Also, will normal cable broadcast use the SUB if I have it directly connected to the receiver? I know most don't broadcast in 5.1 surround. Just curious....

Maybe you can save me some time, or maybe you can give me a project for the weekend.

I have a top-o-the-line receiver....and I know the rears are run directly into it, but just curious if I should do all of them...thanks!

No offense corn but where did you buy the receiver from?
If I was you, unless you got a really good deal on it, I would bring it back and get a denon or onkyo or another amp that features high current power for the same price. I would stay away form the sony, pioneer, kenwood receivers. Also you are going to want to get speakers that are voiced matched so that you can get the most accurate and even sound

My bad...I just realized that this is not your primary system....please ignore the above.......
You're always better using the LFE if its available, you'll get much better bass response.
Ok thanks....I have to doublecheck things when I get home....also, do you know if normal cable TV will have any bass (like when I watch a movie on USA or Sci-fi or anything like that?)

From what I've heard on that receiver, and the reviews I've seen, its a hell of a receiver for the price.. and yea, for the secondary room, it'll be more than enough.

Anyone have any recomendations for a SUB for me....I want to upgrade, but not sure what to get. I currently have a JBL one that came with a home theatre in a box setup. I've upgraded all my speakers from my package (except I used the sat's for the rears).

I just want a new sub....any brand?

Crutchfield.com was giving those speakers away for FREE (as long as you spent $400 worth of Infinity speakers) I almost bought a $400 sub and got the speakers, but I decided to hold off.
