Hey guys, I'm getting a 360 for Christmas and would like to use it downstairs while my connection is upstairs. Is there a cheaper alternative than the $100 MS wireless adapter that I can use to connect to Live wirelessly?

Why PM'd? I want to hear the answer to this question too. Right now I run a 50 foot wire across my house to use Live rather than buying the Wifi adapter because $100 is a retardedly high price.

Buy this (Buffalo WHR-G54S Router):
http://www.buy.com/prod/Buffalo_WHR_G54S_125_High_Speed_Mode_Wireless_Cable_DSL_Smart_Router/q/loc/101/201718519.html

Flash it with this firmware from the DD-WRT project:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads.php

Instructions on how to flash your firmware:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Flashing_the_Buffalo_WHR-G54S_and_WHR-HP-G54

Then configure your router to use the "client bridge" mode:

And *poof* you should be up and running on Xbox Live with your 360.

If you didn't understand any of the above then I would suggest your resident tech buddy to help you out. Remember to repay them with food!

Microsoft made a 802.11G/B wireless adaptor for the original xbox model number is MN-740 and retails on Ebay for about $40-60 shipped.

...and it works with the 360 with no issues?

LoL I have the same setup. $9 ethernet wire def beats out $100 for the wifi adapter.

Well, my issue is that my HD TV is downstairs and my internet connection is upstairs. When I originally built my rec room there I ran a single RG6 connection to one outlet specifically for my cable modem connection (the less splices results in better connection). Until I get a 32 - 36 inch HD for upstairs I'll be playing the 360 on the 54" HD downstairs (not sure how long before the wife agrees to purchase a TV upstairs since I'll be utilizing our main TV).

I'd rather use the 360 Wireless adapter, but since I AM a cheapass I'm looking for the best deal. Mcroa is hooking me up with an original XB adapter (thanks Mcroa again); my only beef is that now I have to go back to WEP on my wireless .... oh well.

Thanks for the input all!
