Cheapass Pets
Ducks, $5 each. I feed them leftover food, had them for about 7 months now (picture is from when they were about 2 days old)

That's awesome! Where/how you do keep them?

I have a cage (pretty big, made for rabbits) for them in the backyard that I put them in during the day (if the weather is good of course) and at night I have a spot made for them in the garage.

Thing I really like is that since I've had them since they were so young they recognize me. I take them to a lake to swim every now and then and all I have to do is call them and they come out. :D (I have a small kiddie pool for them to swim in other days).

That's the shit! I'm going to have to get me some ducks. How hard are they to keep up after? Do they make a lot of noise?

If you only have one then it will be really annoying, so it needs a friend to keep it busy. As for cleaning up after it, I maybe once a week or so hose down the cage outside...takes about 10 mins. As for where they sit in the garage at night I just cover the floor with newspaper and throw away and change them when needed (usually every other day).

They are really fun to have around though, and the type of duck I have (white pekin) doesnt fly, so I dont have to worry about them flying away.

Dachshunds are great small dogs to have.

Neither of mine (male and female) are big on barking and tend to act like bigger dogs most the time, till it comes to sleeping, then they want to be all over you. Potty training may take a couple weeks cause they are a little stubborn but they train well and really aren't skittish like most toy breeds.

You are now offically my mother's favorite CAG. :D She adores bulldogs. They make great pets (and scare the crap out of most neighbors), but they're prone to health problems. NOT a cheap breed to own.

Seriously, visit a pound or preferably a Humane Society for this. I know HS asks you about your home, work schedule, etc. and lets (requires) you visit the animals beforehand- that way, you can be 100% that the pet you're getting will be best for you. And I say 'pet', not 'dog', becuase HS has many, MANY animals- my sister got a guinea pig there.

And, if it doesn't work out, HS actually has a contract you sign that says "If you ever, EVER decide/have to get rid of this animal, you must bring it back to the Humane Society." No trying to convince cousin Earl to take that damn dog off your hands. :D
dude the coolest animal is the three toed sloth, can't mess with a sloth.
uhh, I'd much rather have a penguin, trained to be a small butler, than a 3-toed sloth.
Pugs are pretty sweet, tiny but dont look that wimpy.
I second that... I own one and they are super dedicated little dogs that love their owners to death...

I once saw a penguin on TV named Lala, that lived in Japan... she had a lil' backpack, and everyday her owners put money in the backpack, and walks- by herself- to the fish shop, picks up one for her and one to take home, then heads back.

I want THAT penguin. :bouncy:

Dixie Leigh (4 months old/ long hair)
I am looking for a dog right now, since I am moving to a new place. I had my eye on some chihuahuas that were mixed with another breed, and they looked so damn cute. Unfortunately, they had both been adopted already. My question is, how big do daschunds get? I am interested if they don't get too big.

Miniature dachshunds are classified only by their weight, both of mine are under the 15 lbs requirement, the oldest at 2 only weighs 11 lbs is about 9in tall, and about a 19in long and is fully grown. They are very energetic and playful. The only thing is you gotta watch their weight, I am already having to keep the smallest on a diet, because if they get fat it can cause serious spine injuries later in life because of their length.
