Cheaper Alternatives to Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter

I was wondering if anyone has used a laptop as a wireless connection? My friend has been trying to but it isn't working to well. I was wondering if anyone knows much about it and what must be done.
Hey PrarieDOG, I saw that the Linksys router you pointed to has an upgraded version that's $47 on Amazon. Will that work the same or should I just stick with the originally mentioned router?
I didn't see the new router on the list of supported devices (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Linksys), so I would just go with the one I have mentioned in the beginning (WRT54GL). I think the router you linked to is a newer version of the WRT54G and not the WRT54GL.
so which gaming adapter works the best for 360/ps3??

i have a linksys router right now, and was also wondering if i should stick with linksys or if a netgear or one of another brand would work

i was thinkin of getting this one, but not sure about it

I wouldn't know which brand is "better." Generally speaking, Linksys is more trusted/popular though. When in doubt, just read reviews--lots of them, haha. The one you linked to looks fine, albeit a bit on the pricey side.

I have never used my laptop for the 360's internet, but I found a walkthrough with pics that might help. http://www.instructables.com/id/SVW2W7GFAQEDOCX/

A quick Google search always helps. ;)

I've done that before. Can't recall exactly what I did
one of the things was to change a setting allowing other devices to connect via the laptop
, but it's not too difficult. It'd be annoying if the laptop is one that would often be used, as they would constantly have to change the settings, as the laptop itself cannot connect (at least that was the case w/ me) when set up to allow the xbox to connect.
