Just noticed that Amazon has reduced the Wavebird to $27.82 and the Memory Card 1019 to $19.99. Good deals if you're looking to (re)buy these items for your shiny new Wii.

Funny, I spotted it on the Buy.com comparison just as I was about to buy from there. The Amazon deal is better than Buy.com + GCO for me because of free shipping.

You could also get a wavebird used for about $17 at EB/GS with the Edge card. Just be sure to scrape the crap out of the seams with a paper clip and wash it with rubbing alcohol first >_

Not a bad deal on the wavebird, although I've seen them in stores for $29.99, not having to pay tax (and being able to use an Amazon gift certificate) make this worth thinking about. I've never had a wavebird, but I'm definitely considering one for the Wii.

If you're buying 2 Wavebirds then Buy.com + GCO may be a better deal (unless you get hit up for tax). I bought 2 Wavebirds from Buy.com, used GCO for the $20 off $50 and with the cheapest shipping option it was $47.50...not bad. Looking forward to having all wireless controllers for my Wii!

Just an FYI. It might be YMMV but at Radio Shack last week I got some Pelican Wireless controllers clearanced for only $9.97 and they work well. They feel a little cheap but they are much nicer on the wallet.

Dunno about you all, but I'd rather get the grey controllers straight from Nintendo. I don't see those in stores anymore, but the platinum ones everybody sells have that cheap paint coating on.

That memory card is a good deal though. Just might have to get one myself.

True. I'm not fond of the Platinum paint having the potential to wear off but I like the way it matches the Platinum Wii stand so I nabbed it over the original.

Ok silly parent question: I thought the Wii uses SD cards so why would you need Memory Card 1019 ?

I have yet to see a Wii but am planning on getting one for my son as a Christmas/or post present (depending on my luck).

Thanks for the info.

You need it for Gamecube saves. If you aren't planing on playing GC games on the Wii you don't need it at all.

So if he hasn't saved anything on his GC then don't worry about it, right?

Thank you so much for the help.

It doesn't sound like anything to worry about. If he's had a Gamecube for a while, though, he's probably saved some games, and they had to be saved to a memory card at some point.

Just gave my sister my old GameCube now that I've got my Wii, but she says the 59 block memory card isn't big enough to save some games on.. so I'll buy this for $15 after the $5 gift certificate in my account, transfer my saves to it, and give her my 251 block.

I worked at Gamestop for a bit and after looking at a few used PLATINUM Wavebirds there is no way I would buy anything but the gray.

The sticks and the buttons all had the silver paint rubbing off on them including the rear triggers. Yuck.

I had no idea these were still so expensive. I've been wanting to get one but dang I thought they'd be 20 bucks now new. Oh well, I'm getting it, hah

If it wasn't for the EB/GS merger, we could still get Wavebirds for ~$12 shipped. Damn mergers! Damn Gamestop!

the price for the memory is okay, i believe that is the 64mb memory card. you can get that for 20 at best buy or 15 when you use the best buy 5 dollar gamers gift card. for 10 dollars more you can double that and get the 128mb memory card also at best buy or 25 using the gamers gift card. but i'm not sure of the availability of those things in your locations. so good luck.

I bought a nearly perfect condition used platinum wavebird from gamestop for the 17.99 price, and was very satisfied, a gamestop near me had a large stock so i just cherry picked the best one, it also still had the original batteries in it with power left on them too.

Also, might i suggest ebay for the memory card 1019's as a couple months back i was able to snag a brand new one for under 10$.

I think you're right - they must be OOS @ Buy.com...all I searched for when I bought them was "wavebird" and now it returns no items.

Well, thinking of picking up a Gamecube controller, however, someone please answer my questions:

What is the definitive control scheme for Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Will it use the Gamecube/Classic controller?

Assuming you are talking about the GC version, it will only use the GC controller (or Wavebird).

By the way, anyone who ordered the Wavebird at the higher price should email Amazon and they will give you the difference.
Any idea where I could find a 1019 for this Amazon price in-stores new?
I picked one up at Target for $17 .99. They are on sale this week.

??? Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming to GC?

Wow and to think I was sad when the Wavebird I got in a trade for a Kmart bundle was grey and not silver. Ahhh...lucky me :)

I wish Nintendo would release a white GCN controller that linked into the remote like the classic controller so I wouldnt have to keep the top door open.

Sorry, I thought they were talking about Super Smash Brothers and not the Wii version. I don't think the Wii version would use Gamecube controllers at all. Don't know about the classic controller.

CAG will be the end of me one day...

i've picked something up off amazon everyday for the last 4 days, THANK YOU CAG! :applause:

pulled the trigger... been wanting one of these for awhile and website said 3 left. hope it doesn't get cancelled =/

i was contemplating waiting for the buy 2 used get 1 free at gs to get one used but i've always told myself not to get controllers used. i remember my snes controller wore out and the buttons stopped working after a year of use. i broke down and ordered 2 refurb wireless action controllers for my ps2 from woot.com and i didn't think anything was wrong with them. well recently the X button on one of the controllers has been sticking. i tried to use WD-40 to lube it but it hasn't seemed to have done much.

so yea to sum things up... no more used controllers for me unless its a really good deal =)

I got those wireless PS2 controllers from Woot as well, and two of the buttons on one of my controllers was sticking too. I had to disassemble it and take a q-tip with WD-40 and clean out the junk that was in the button "silo." I think it was a little coke or something. After that it worked just fine.

Amazon jacked the price of the GC memory card up to 28.99. They are on sale at Target this week for 17.99. I am going to go there later and pick one up (assuming they have any left).

I opened up the controller too and determined that it would be too hard to get to the button and I'd probably break something. I just sprayed the WD on the button hoping it would seep in... did you unscrew the circuit board from the controller to get to the button?

EDIT: Price of the Wavebird is now a yucky $32.82.
Does the wavebird work with the Wii?
yes but i have a question to add on top of that... how does the reciever fit into the port with that plastic flip-up cover? does the cover come off?

Yes it does come off. There are instructions on the flap.

I'd like to see a white Wavebird with the same shiny plastic that the Wii uses, but I guess there's no need with the Classic Controller.

Yeah, I took everything apart. It wasn't that hard, but then again I've done similar things before.

But the reciever fits on with the flip up cover attached...
