Cheapest way to obtain full Deep Space Nine series?

CAGiversary!
I checked other posts, but nothing seems to have any current deals. does anyone know of the cheapest way to obtain this full set? im getting peeved with spike tv giving me 3 episodes a week and cablevision not offering spike hd. i dont care if its the box set or individual seasons, as long as it isn't those weird imports. i want a quality set. so much hate for paramount with this ripoff pricing. i do watch ebay but so far the best i see is around $250 for a used set.

This really isn't the answer you were looking for, but my wife and I watched them all by renting on netflix. It turned out to be the cheapest way to see them all. Plus they have unlimited "instant viewing" on almost every plan now. We actually watched all of next gen and ds9 that way and just started on Voyager.

i see, thanks for the tip but i was looking to own the set. what do you think the odds of them redoing this in blu ray is? maybe it would drive the price of these down, although then id probably want the blu ray set..

You got the instant viewing thing to work? I downloaded all that fucknig bullshit and the god damn piece of shit still doesn't work.

And "Obtain" sounds like you want to download the shows, and that would be cheapest.

Little. TNG, DS9, and Voyager were shot in 4:3 on tape, so DVD quality is as high as you can get, unlike TOS and Enterprise, which were shot on film.

If you can find the seasons at gamestop used, they're $30-40 each but Buy 2 Get 2 free. If you have a bunch of GS's in your area it might be worth checking out.

alright, so i wont worry about buying a soon obsolete set. i may just go gamestop hunting this weekend, there are tons of them around here.

Make sure you ask when you go into Gamestop. They usually only stock enough DVDs to fill shelves, and have more in back.

I picked up the Alien Quad boxset, and all STrek Voyager seasons for $200 with B1G1 free offers they usually have. They DO NOT have them on their website so don't bother. In store only

They seem to be committed to HD-DVD the short run. I have no doubt they will find a way to get a HD transfer or remaster of these sets. Start Trek thrives on being sold and resold...

Yes, I use it about once a week. But I just discovered a svideo outputon my laptop and it turns out I can now watch instant viewing on my lcd tv.

Back a couple years ago, the cheapest way was to get the Chinese versions on eBay, but they've since cracked down on them. I managed to pick up the last three seasons for about $50.

I say this because if you happen to find the chinese versions somewhere, they're reasonably good quality.

Sincce Paramount owns Star Trek, and since they stopped producing Blu-Ray a few months back, not any time soon. But if Blu-Ray really does end up winning the format war, Paramount will definitely offer Star Trek eventually.

That is not entirely correct. I don't know for sure on DS9 and Voyager, but TNG was shot on Film then transfered to Tape where the final editing was done. So to put the series out in HD would require them to re-edit every single episode which would be costly and time consuming. Whether they would spring for this to be done isn't very likely at this point. Perhaps in the distant future we will see them in HD. This all assumes they kept the original film that they transfered to the tape and I don't know if they have or not so the whole thing might be moot anyways.

As for the best price It's $296.88 at http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=5782147 , in June or July it will be $237.50 during their 20% off sale.

Furthermore, since the visual effects sequences were done on video, they would have to recreate all of them from scratch, as they're doing now with the original TREK, which will further boost the cost for Paramount. If it were any other studio, I wouldn't sweat it, but Paramount is notoriously cheap to the third degree.

You never know - I'm amazed that they ARE redoing the original series for HD, so depending on how the reception to that has been there might be a chance of seeing one of the other series make the leap too. Not a good one, maybe, but it's possible.

Oh, don't get me wrong--Paramount knows STAR TREK is their ever-lasting money-maker, so I'm sure they'll do right by it. The problem is, the studio is so cheap by nature that I don't think they'll do it until years after the fans will have just about given up hope. If anyone was holding off on buying TNG/DS9/VOYAGER and/or ENTERPRISE in light of HD, I think they should go right ahead and pick them up. You'll have to double-dip them down the line, but it'll be a long line.

hmm that deepdiscount deal may be something to consider if i cant find it elsewhere before then. ive been watching on spike but they are so stingy here, its only on 3 days a week and of course not even in fake cable hd.

I'm waiting for a mega box set like the one TNG came out with last year. It had all 7 seasons and cost less then buying the Mega pack of each season in one collection. And it came with a bonus disk.

It's true the single seasons have nicer boxes but they take up too much room and I'm tired of wasting shelf space on dvds.

Fry's has had them and TNG for $20-30 a season in the past. I got the first 4 seasons of TNG this way. Too bad they ran out of stock so fast. I still need seasons 5-7 of TNG.
