CHEAPYD......GET AN XBOX!!!! (VOTE IN THIS POLL!!)

goosedude

CAGiversary!
Despite my constant attempts to convince him otherwise........CheapyD has refused to purchase an XBOX and XBOX Live....methinks to avoid the opportunity for me to beat on him incessantly and hear me laugh at him in every game.

With HALO 2 coming........I ask that ye of the CAG Forums join me in convincing him....so that we may smite his cheap-assness on a regular basis....

Ehhh?? EHH??

I must say that there are benefits to owning the magical black box, including lots of cheap-ass deals on games. However, Halo 2 in no means is THE must own game. Personally the Halo series is towards the bottom of my console FPS list, and I still don't see what all the hype is about. There are, however, plenty of games that are exclusive and very good, and I will give credit to Live for providing stable on-line play.

Refurbished X-Box $140, with Matrix game :?

HALO next to SW: KOTOR is one of my fave XBOX games......there were just so many moments in the game that made it memorable.
For example:
The 1st time you meet THE FLOOD......thats a quintessential modern gaming moment.......up there with the Dogs through the window in RESIDENT EVIL, Aerith dying in FFVII, and PsychoMantis messing with your head.

I don't think I've ever actually said "Oh S---!" and then just turned ass and run like that in a FPS video game......ever.

Dude, I hated the flood. They have to be the most annoying enemy in any game. Halo would have been ten times better if they were not their!!. Anyway, I can't believe that our cheapass leader does not have an xbox. It is a good system. If you do get one, check out one of my previous posts (in the xbox section) for identifying the dvd drive using only the manufacture date. Info was provided by the guys over at the xbox linux project.

He should take advantage of one of the black friday deals with an Xbox bundle. Live would not be a necessity to get, but is a lot of fun.

I'm just curious...what's toward the "top" of your console FPS list?

The top game on my console FPS list is Serious Sam XBox edition (baiscally Gold for PC, but with great additions like the Multi-Kill along with play improvements from the First and Second Encounters for PC). I also like Unreal Championship on Live, even though I have to play on others' Live accounts because my home connection isn't supported by live (it's a shotgun connection, but that's a whole different story). Goldeneye and the Timesplitters games (Free Radical) have a very good console play feel. I'm a fan of Doom on Jaguar, 32X, and GBA. Another past one I liked was Forsaken 64 (quite possibly the best Acclaim game ever)

I just don't see the obsession of Halo. It's got a heavy/slow feel to it, (compare it to Sam and Unreal, you'll definately see what I mean) and that is the key to my dislike. I don't find anything to be radically different, it's an evolutionary stage in the FPS genre, it's definately not REVOLUTIONARY, which everyone makes it out to be.

I will have to disagree with bigdirty on this one (I typically agree with what bigdirty has to say. I have sam on the xbox and I dont care for it that much. I do think that halo is one of the better fps out there today. time plitters didn't do it for me either. I like an indepth story line to my games. Hitman 2 in fp view is fun. Still hate those flood though.

That's cool...at least you didn't say Daikatana ;)

I think the thing that made Halo special for me, and this is purely my opinion, but I loved how cinematic it was. I loved how the story unfolded...the first time I met the Flood was one of those "Top 5 Video Game Moments" for me. I bought it close to launch, so I had been unspoiled about anything in the story.

As I played it, I wasn't thinking about whether it was slow or not or what the graphics were like...I was immersed in the story and the experience. But that kind of thing is always subjective...it's purely how it relates to you personally, and no two people's experiences will be the same. That was just mine.

Also, I loved Serious Sam for Xbox...but I'll be honest, as much fun as it is, I lost incentive to finish it. I finished the first encounter, and got several stages into the second, but just had no desire to see it through. Still a funny, fast first person killer.

I'd love to give Time Splitters 2 another try, but I played the demo and it's the first FPS to ever give me DIMS. Since then, the only other one to do that to me was Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Believe me, years of playing FPSs and having that happen is quite disturbing!

Halo and KOTOR are the primary reasons to own an xbox, they are probably the best games I've played in the last 5 years. Come midway next year Halo 2 and Fable should be 2 more reasons to own one.

But hopefully you see what I mean when I say Halo feels slow and heavy. If you play it side-by-side (or at least directly before/after) with Sam, you can see the realative speed difference. Going through the Halo worlds it feels like you don't cover anywhere near as much ground as in Sam. Also Halo is a lot less twitchy than most FPSes, which I'm not a fan of (the reason I don't play counter strike).

I don't see why Halo is the premier game for the system though. Yes, it is pretty, but there are tons of games that are pretty as well. The vehicles are a nice touch, and the exaggerated physics are fun, it just doesn't break new ground for me, nor was it what sold me on the system. For me it was a combination of the SegaGT/JSRF pack-in, along with Sam, the Sega exclusives, in particular, Shenmue, THPS2X (yes, I wanted the extra levels along with all of 1 and 2 on the same disc), and Oddworld.

There's a lot more to the XBox than just FPSes, which should be the focus when trying to sell someone on the box. Live is the key selling point, but it's hard to convince a PS2 owner to get a box, especially with the repitition in the consoles' libraries.

totally agree on the "heavy feel" of halo. Isn't that because master cheif is loaded down with all that body armor  Sam in comparison is very "light", but I am not a fan of games that are "light" I don't feel connected to the game.

Halo is a good game, saved the xbox. This is my opinion only, but think about it...Halo was the only good game for the xbox for a long time, all those guys who spent hundreds of dollars for the big black box had to justify the purchase some how. I think If halo was released on the ps2 or later in the xbox life cycle it would not be as popular.

If CheapyD does not want to get a Xbox, that is his decision. The only reason I got a Xbox and GC is for the games that will not be out on the PS2. I have like 7 times more games for my PS2 than Xbox and GC.

The reason I only have a PS2 has nothing to do with me not thinking Xbox or Gamecube is inferior to PS2, but everything to do with time.

I simply do not have enough time to play the PS2 games I already own. There are games on Xbox & GC that I want to play, but I just need more time!

Oh, I could also use more space in my apartment...its kinda tight.

Thanks for thinking of me, Goose.

Yes but considering the games that are releasing for Xbox in 2004 are sure to sway some of those who have been reluctant in the past to give in and buy and Xbox. Games like Ninja Gaiden and Fable really do show promise for the black behemoth.

damn people. are you so obsessed with your system that your pushing it like crack? you play halo and somehow it makes xbox gamers THE elite gamer or something and everybody has to have one. get over it. i want an xbox too. don't care for it much, but i would still like one. hey cheapyD, wanna buy a crack rock?

Not everyone has time (or even the money... this IS a cheapsassgamer site ya know?) for all the systems, He's made his choice, let him be.
