CheapyD & Wombat play the first hour of Mass Effect [Video]

I'm on my 8th hour, and it's awesome. The pacing is a little slow at first, but I really like the difficulty (it's not easy). It's really interesting how the combat gets HECTIC, too.

Nice to see Cheapy & Wombat enjoying this, too!

I just finished the game yesterday and I must say it is right up there for goty. Wow, wombat not only are you not funny but you are horrible at the game. Another thing you don't have to press a to get behind cover. You just have to press up against any wall and you'll automatically stick.
 
very awesome, but like most people I jsut skimmed through it to avoid spoilers.

Also, the death scenes are quite funny indeed............."oh i died"
 
It was a nice job by Cheapy and Wombat. I don't know how it's getting the scores it's getting with its' unskippable cutscenes though. Especially in a heavily based story game, that's really inexcusable.

Thanks for bragging here and on the UGO blog about finishing the game. It adds a lot to the discussions. Give Wombat a break. I really appreciate being able to see this video. I enjoyed hearing Cheapy and Wombat's commentary. They both freely admit that they aren't really good gamers, but they still obviously like to game.
 
I'm not trying to brag at all. I'm just stating that I finished the game thats all. I don't know I'm just not a fan of wombat's humor. Cheapy has the same sense of humor as me so I think he's funny.

@maklershed lol richard christy is hilarious. Not being able to skip cutscenes are kind of an annoyance. Another annoyance are the lack of checkpoint saves.
 
Can someone comment on the framerate in the combat sections. I've heard they take some serious hits, and as a self-proclaimed frmaerate whore, I'm worried.
 
The framerate does take quite a hit depending on how much is happening on screen. One point where my team and the enemies were all using special powers the framerate came to a complete halt and I could barely tell what was happening.

Mostly a rarity. There are a couple of areas, not many, where enemies do fill the screen and the slowdown shows up.
 
I'm so glad I am now stateside. I would have been even more disappointed with this video if I had to stream it from Indonesia. Sorry, but I stopped watching half way through the first video. I think the UGO guys should have kept the initial video focused on the gameplay elements, not the ridiculously long cut scenes. Only the hardcore are going to watch all four videos. Just my opinion.
 
Wow... You guys eat this up. Those video's were dull as hell and Wombat has an annoying voice/isn't funny at all.

Thank god Cheapy was holding it down.

Jeez.... then don't watch the videos, since you are obviously all Professional Gamers and comedians all rolled in to one. I don't know how find time to comment on message boards inbetween making the rounds in comedy clubs AND on the pro gaming tour :roll: .

The videos were fine, like sitting around with a couple of buddies figuring out a new game without reading the instructions. Just like most of us have done many times. :mrgreen:

I was wondering as I was watching, if Cheapy and Wombat realized that the combat was mostly RPG based and not completely skill based. You could be completely lined up on a guy and still miss him, if the die roll does not go your way.

Sure, we didn't watch the video's. That doesn't change the fact that Wombat is far from anything funny and that you along with many posters are suckups.

I liked the videos, very funny, went perfectly with the awesome-ness that is Mass Effect, I really can't wait any longer!

For those of us that don't like it (and yes, I am one of them), are we supposed to heap false praise on something that we think sucks? Or are we supposed to just keep quiet and not voice our opinions too?

As far as my two cents go, I'd rather watch blood congeal than watch a video of a couple of guys playing a game. Given that one of the guys is Wombat, that makes it about 10,000 times worse.

Wombat is a talentless hack. He's not funny, he's not insightful. I'm not sure how in the hell he got his gig with UGO, but his work is uniformly rotten. Cheapy really isn't funny either, but neither is he annoying as all hell. I know that's not a popular opinion to have around here, but that's the way I see it.

Come on, that's funny.

I don't think the point is whether Wombat is funny or not. It's like who is more funny Abbot or Costello? They both together are entertaining to listen to. I just hope Wombat and CheapyD try to do this more often.

I didn't say you can't voice your opinion, by all means... I'm just saying you people don't have to be dickwads about it.

It's possible to have a differing opinion and be unfavorable to something while not being a complete jackass. Hard to believe for you, I'm sure... but it's not too difficult.

And if you dislike the Cheapy & Wombat duo so much, why do you go out of your way to see what they are up to? Is bitching about trivial things fun for you? I have a simple solution: Don't click on any threads and/or links created by Cheapy or Wombat and you'll be set.

You say you're being honest. What makes you think that others are not being honest if they enjoyed what they watched. It would be nice to see the contributions from all of these people that just spend their time trolling message boards and criticizing others. There are links for a reason, I don't click on everything I see just because is in front of my face. It's called self control. The title did say that it's about Wombat and Cheapy. Don't like someone, don't click on it.

Never said or implied that anyone who liked it wasn't honest.

Want to see my contributions? All of my posts and my iTrader rating are there for you to see. That and the crinkly green money that has benefitted CAG when I have bought product through affiliate links. Taking all of that into consideration, do my contributions merit your approval? :roll:

I do appreciate the lifeskill lesson about self control. I'm going to take your advice. No more clicking on every link I see. And if it's Wombat-related content, I'll really try to spend my time doing something less painful - like slamming my nuts in a phone book. I'll get back to you later on and let you know how I'm doing.
