Cheney joins strategy of GOP criticism of Democrats

CAGiversary!
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney added his voice on Wednesday to the chorus of Republican criticism of Democrats who have accused the Bush administration of manipulating intelligence on Iraq, calling it "one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city."

"Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing force against Saddam Hussein," Cheney said in remarks prepared for a GOP fundraiser.

... "What we're hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war," Cheney said in remarks prepared for a speech at the Frontiers of Freedom Institute's 2005 Ronald Reagan gala.

"The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and pernicious falsehoods day in and day out," he said.

Suffering a serious credibility gap, the Bush administration is trying its best to shift attention away from them to the Democrats. From watching morning television shows, I'm glad that the news media seem skeptical of Dick and Dubya's claims. When will the Bush adminstration ever stop misleading the U.S. and focus on a real exit strategy in Iraq? I hope Mr. Cheney washed his blood-soaked, oily hands before his speech.

I just have to know. When the Bush administration says that: democrats received the same information they did, does that mean they received all of the same reports from the CIA? The same warnings from Tenet? The same documents as is? Were able to get minutes from the meetings that Bush had with National Security Advisors?

If not what exact Intelligence did senators get?

Their talking point is that the "democrats saw the same intelligence that they did." That doesn't mean democrats saw ALL the intelligence they did, nor does it mean that they saw non-modified intelligence. Though the GOP may be speaking the truth, they are misleading the public once again.

I think the White House is protesting this angle too much. With their history, it makes it seem more likely that the charges against them are true. But I guess the days where they could just raise the Troublalert to change the news cycle are gone.

I hate cheney....I have no issues with Bush as a person, since he at least seems like he feels he's doing what he feels is right, cheney is just a bad evil man.

When Dubya "feels" something is right, it's because either Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the like have told him "it's right". Dubya's too dumb to know any better.

Yes, that's true...I don't think Bush is inherently a bad person, he's just not smart enough to think on his own, the rest of the fockers around him just give me a bad vibe though.

There is some evidence to believe that the administration in it's admitted "America needs a Pearl Harbor level terrorist attack so we can invade Iraq"(see: People for a new American century) plan was pushed on us through using directed (at best), cherry picked, or outright lies (at worst). And Cheney believes that's the worst thing he's ever heard politically?

Yeah, me too. That is the worst thing I've ever heard anyone do for politics.
