Children of Men (INCREDIBLY GOOD)
saw this on friday..it was pretty amazing in both its storytelling and its cinematography...i would like to see a follow up
That will never happen.

1. It's based on a book, and it's "wide" release is only 1,200 theaters so it's not making a lot of money.

The Departed.
Anybody else get the whole Half-Life 2 vibe while watching this movie? Alfonso Cuaron needs to do the Half-Life movie now....
Saw this tonight and that's what I kept thinking at certain moments. Great, great, great movie.

Really good but I like The Host more compared to this. That's just really personal taste though.

The key issue I had with this film was that it was basically setup as one of those stories that if you met someone, they were going to die. It didn't matter who it was, they were going to die. I don't know if they went that route to push on the bleakness of the story or what, but what started out as shocking at the start became standard by the end.

The Fountain > The Departed/Children of Men

I just got back from seeing this. I absolutley loved the atmosshpere and feel of the movie. It almost had an air of insanity to it a la Pink Floyd's The Wall (anyone notice the pig and the smoke stacks from the view of the rich guy's apartment?). My big problem with it however is that to me it almost seemed as if the director of the movie expects the watcher to know all about the universe the actions are set in. I was completely confused about FISH and what their agenda was, what the uprising was, why immigrants were trying to get in to London and why they were being killed or putting into camps, and why they were trying to get the baby to the ship "Tomorrow".

1. The building is Battersea Power Station. In the movie it was converted as a government refuge to safeguard works of art from around the world due to widespread anarchy. The building is most famous for being featured on the cover for Pink Floyd's Animals album.

2. FISH was a countermeasure to the totalitarian government and their treatment towards immigrants in particular.

3. The FISH agents had to blow a hole in the wall to get inside the complex to intercept the baby going into the boat. That explosion was the X factor that caused the rest of the incarcerated immigrants to unite, I'm sure they were already ready and just waiting for an opportunity to break some skulls though.

4. The rest of the world has gone to shit because humanity has lost hope in the future(there was a propaganda tape while they were on the bus that showed major cities in complete chaos that ended with the slogan "Only Britain soldiers on"). Because the rest of the world has gone to shit, everybody wants in but Britain's afraid that the immigrants will bring the same chaos to them. The immigrants don't take kindly to being treated like shit so some of them fight back with terrorism which escalates the tension.

5. They wanted to take the baby to the ship so they could rendezvous with the Human Project, an institute independent from the (corrupt) government that's treated them like shit(the mother was an immigrant or immigrant descendant).

Thats all great info and it helped me make sense of things (by the way .. score one for me for the links between the movie and Pink Floyd :)) but did you figure that out on your own or did you read the book or something? Cause that would've been hard to figure out by just watching the movie.

God damn that was a good ass post. Thank you so much.

This was a good movie. You're kidding right? The whole thing was so spoon fed to the audience that the only thing it elicited was groans and early departers.

Seriously, "Tomorrow"? Could it be anymore obvious and trite?

I saw it tonight and it was very possible to get all that from the movie, I did at least. As for the movie itself, loved it, I saw the scene with the soldiers at the end coming a mile away but it was still done beautifully.
