"chop-shopping" a game?

Hey guys this is a weird question, so hopefully I can explain it properly. You know how you can make more money selling games individually instead of selling them as a lot, right? Well, does that same idea apply to single games and/or systems?

For example let's say I can sell my complete copy of Final Fantasy VII for $50; if I instead sold the 3 discs, case, and manual all in separate auctions could I make a substantially larger amount? Same thing for a system... could I make more listing the controller, system, etc. in individual listings or is it just better to sell it as a complete package?

For specific games (like FFVII) you might be able to make more cash selling off the pieces. I don't know of any systems that would be more profitable to do it that way, but there might be a few.

You'll probably make more money splitting up a system by cables, accessories, games (Hard drive if applicable) and then the system.

Okay cool. Yeah, I was thinking of selling my 360 and some of my rarer PS1 games and I figured it might be worth the extra effort to break them up and sell them individually. I think I'll test the waters with FFVII and take it from there.

Hmm, see if you can sell them at separate times, lest someone pick up on you selling your stuff split up like that and try to talk you into getting it all together for a cheaper price. For FF7, maybe do Disc 1 and 2 this week, then next week Disc 3 and the Case, etc.

Well the thing I imagine would happen if you sold the discs separately is that a few people would bid on all of them, after the one winner... wins disc one, everyone else stops bidding on 2 and 3.

To me this seems like a waste. Sure there are some people that need disc 2 of FFVII, but they are few and far between. There are probably many more people looking for the complete game. You would be severely limiting your possible customer base by selling the discs off individually.

Now this is not necessarily true with SE copies of games. In those cases it is often beneficial to split up the game and goodies to generate maximum profit. In that case many people may have the game already and just want some of the goodies that came with the Special/Collector's editions.

I wish that were the case with the GTAIV SE, since I'm sitting on 2 full copies of it right now which I'd split up, but I've been hoping someone would PM me offering up Legends Of Wrestlemania for PS3 in mint/sealed/complete condition for one of them, since I'd do that trade in a second.

But thus far, NO BITES.

I wouldn't split up the actual game discs... but depending on the title, you might try selling the manual and case seperately. There's a collectors who'll want to turn disc-only copies into complete ones, if they can get a decent price on the missing bits. (I know I'm in the market for a Legend of Dragoon manual and a Suikoden 2 back insert.)

FFVII, if you set them "fixed price, good til cancelled' you can get a decent price for the individual discs, but usually only if they're perfect.

I've saved a good deal of money buying games in pieces versus buying them whole. Several rare games I've bought disc only for 1/10th or so what they are worth complete, and then about $6 for the case/manual. I'd stick with selling whole.

Eh, this is going vary quite a bit and totally based off of luck for FFVII. I mean if you can wait, the best time to sell FFVII is always during Xmas time. They sell for about about $70-$100 every year when Xmas rolls around. Thats when I sold my first 3. I sold another one like 2 months ago, only scored like $60, so meh. And I have seen individual discs go for as low as $15 before, so it ranges quite a bit for FFVII. Good luck though.
isnt ffvii going over psn in the summer? I have 10 copies and trying to wait for xmas but may not make it
It's already available as a downloadable game in Japan, and will probably make it's way to the other countries after E3. So, those copies are going to become less popular, as only the people that really want it as a collectible will want them. The people that just want to play will most likely buy it on PSN.
