Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Demo Now On XBLM

I gave the demo a shot earlier, I didn't really like it.

It's probably a good game, but the demo was awful. Not good when you're trying to sell your game.

I wouldn't put too much stock into blitz6speed's comments. He was about as anti-OG Xbox as they come. I would assume that includes all games relating to it as well.[/QUOTE]

Absolutely absurd. This just goes to show more people here are fanboys of companys then gamers.

I'm so excited for the demo to finish downloading! The first game on Xbox rocked hard, so if this one even lives up to that, then it'll be a purchase for me.

Demo is great. Didn't have any of the problems blitz was talking about.

Fans of the first game will love this.

Demo was FANTASTIC. I loved the first one, this one is more of the same with remote controlled drones, more weapons, and it's a LOT more challenging (anyone find ANY health stations in the demo? I found a nanoMED cartridge but no stations). Didn't have any glitches. Lots of stealth involved in the gameplay, which I like.

I thought the demo was terrible. I never played the first one, so maybe I'm just expecting too much, but I was at least expecting... something. I got nothing.

I thought the dialogue was laughable and seemed way too forced, and no one seemed to really try to put their voice acting into the characters. The sounds fit the game well, but the actual speaking I thought was terrible.

The gameplay seemed just like any other mediocre FPS, graphics, while nice at times, could also look horribly dated in spots (character models were very good, but everything else was meh). The gunplay didn't really seem to have anything to it, I felt nothing but "oh, an enemy.. press RT; move on". Normally, when I play an FPS, I liked to be sucked into it, taking down an enemy should mean something, and not just mean.. oh, hey, he's shooting me. Let me press RT and kill him. There, now where's the exit so I can finish this demo? The close-quarters combat I didn't find to be much fun either, you pretty much just spam the RT and hope you kill the person.

The drone is an interesting idea though, I'll admit. That part I didn't mind. I dunno, it's probably because I didn't play the first, but I was expecting much better. Disappointed, to say the least.

Also, yes Scorch, there is one Health Station, near the exit I believe; down a long empty hallway, it's a giant brown console on the wall (unless that's not a health station, but it sure seemed like one).

Edit: Oh, and there was another feature I really liked, where when you kill someone, you can take control of the gun from their body, and shoot people with it. I thought that was a very nice feature. I'll also gladly give the demo a second chance, and will probably rent the game, but I'm just saying, first impressions were disappointing.

It's highly possible that people played the first will love it and people new to the franchise will hate it. I think recent games have spoiled a lot of people. It felt just like playing the original to me, which is one of the few FPS games that has held my interest until the very end. I'll definitely rent this, not sure if I will buy it (Money's kinda tight right now).

Oh man now I'm scared. I always wanted to play the original but never did, I'm really looking forward to this one from all I've heard. I hope all the hype I have built up doesn't ruin the experience for me.

That's how it's been so far in this thread, and that's probably how it will continue.

That being said, this demo is fucking sick. This was easily my most anticipated Xbox 360 game of the year, and now the wait will suck even more.

Top 5 OG games for me.

:)

It's all about managing your expectations. Two things to keep in mind:

1. If you haven't played the first then more than likely it will let you down do to the 'internet legend' it has since become.

2. People keep tossing out FPS, but I it's more of a stealth game with FPS moments. The fist was also slow paced. If you are expecting Halo, COD or Half-Life you will be MASSIVELY disappointed. Think more along the lines of the first Condemned in regards to pacing.

The impressions so far have me really excited for this. I'll try the demo tonight... loved the first game to death, so I shouldn't be disappointed here, it seems.

Demo was good in terms of stealth and overall gameplay.

I just wish they touched up the graphics more. It seems like the graphics are not up to todays snuff.

Then again it was so many years ago that I played the original, but graphics seemed a little bland to me.

I'm just glad they are releasing the remake with the new chapter. Honestly that's a lot considering this game has been in limbo for years.

Will probably hold out for a sale though unless the multiplayer is insanely good.

Oh, and I was a fan of the original. I beat it twice.

I like some of the aspects to this demo, but christ... I guess I suck at killing. Usually when someone labels something it does then it does it, but not in the case of this game. Oh well.

Uhm, demo was okay. I liked some parts didn't like others and I don't exactly see myself spending sixty on twelve or so hours of this gameplay. I'll pick it up when it drops down like darkness did. I like Starbreeze, I just can't pay 60 for it.

The original game was 10-12 hours and the new campaign is said to be just as long so you are looking at a 20 hour game, not 12.

Is it really dark for anyone else? I know you can push up and use the "flashlight eyes" but otherwise it was really hard to see anything.

Besides that, I really liked the demo. I'd definitely consider this at 40.00.

Demo was pretty sick but kinda hard to get used to the darkness...I kept forgetting to use the light eyes or whatever. It seemed kinda hard too, in order to kill one armored guy you have to use a ton of bullets.

Keep in mind that the Butcher Bay portion of the game has reused many assets from the first game. They've upped the character models but many of the base textures have been left untouched. It's the Dark Athena campaign that will look up to today's graphical standards.

Also, Riddick is more about the gameplay experience and less about the look (aside from the overall "feel" of the game).

My bad, I thought the original game was eight and the new expansion would put maybe four-six hours on the game. That is a good length compared to other single player games like mirror's edge but this is still one that I'll wait for a price drop. I appreciate that it tries to be different though.

Did anyone get their game yet? I was going to pre-order today and ummmm... I had no idea that it came out today. On the EB website, it still says April 7th.

it was April 2 but it was pushed back to the 7th at the last second, I do believe some stores already have it in tho.

I got the game today at Gamestop, the free maps won't go live till the 7th, but I'll be on this game this weekend. If anyones down for some Multiplayer send me a friend request I'm on there Axl Rose 4183

GameCrazy got the OK to sell it as well, picked it up today.. been playing the crap out of Butcher Bay.. just as great as I remember it.

Well, tore through Butcher Bay. It was a lot easier than I remember it being. Maybe it's because I have played through it a time or two and knew where to go and what to do.. sound was definitely improved on it, visuals were slightly better, but achievements were nice on this play through. Didn't last long. Hope Dark Athena lasts longer.

Butcher Bay? About 5-6 hours, but like I said, it was a quick run through. I knew where to go and what to do since I beat it two or three times on the original XBox.

Just beat Dark Athena. Pretty short, about 6 hours or so, if that. The end boss is retarded. I won't spoil who it is, but I am going to spoil the absurd way you have to kill the boss:

You're in a wide open room with four pillars. There's an elevator straight ahead. The boss is running back and forth behind the two pillars closest to the elevator. You have to open the elevator door and literally melee them over and over until, hopefully, they stumble backwards and fall down the shaft.

I would put it on the same shelf with EFBB, maybe one tiny notch below EFBB. It was just way too short and there's not much in the way of side quests at all. The voice acting is great, though. If you've never played EFBB, buy this. If you're a fan of EFBB, give this a rental, as you'll beat Dark Athena fairly quickly.

Can't wait to try out the multiplayer portion.

Does anyone know if the Butcher Bay part of this game features the extra sections that were in the PC version of the game?

Hey guys i'm currently playing this on PS3 but no one pays attention over there lol, anywho, i'm having a lot of trouble going through the game (my first play through) as I keep getting killed over and over again :(. I don't know how to correctly deal with the enemies unless I can sneak up behind them and screwdrive them in the neck :(.

Any of you guys got any tips?

Lurk in the shadows. Hit X.. if the screen has a blue tint, you're hidden.

If you have a gun, shoot out the lights.

Are you playing EFBB or Dark Athena?

Are you serious? Were you not wearing the prisoner's clothing? If you don't touch the guards, they don't even realize who you are and you can just walk right up to his door. Try walking around without a weapon equipped. If you have a weapon, people immediately realize you're hostile. That whole part of the game.. from the time you step off the elevator and go to the lobby of the complex, to the time where you ride up the elevator and to the apartments, to the time you walk up to dude's door.. I never had one person pull a weapon on me at all because I kept my head low, remained unequipped and didn't bump into any guards.

At one point, the guards were talking about Riddick. One guard asks him what Riddick looks like, the guard points at me, and goes 'Actually, kinda like that guy. Hm.' and they went about their business.

I think the first time I played it, I didn't wear the disguise either. Later on, I found out you were supposed to do that so I went back and played that section again. Much easier.

I didn't even know you could wear disguses, let alone not have to kill every guard in the place. I figured after the big giant robot it's KOS. Where do you get the prisoner suit?

Soon after you leave the tunnels and enter the shower area, there's a locker room with a guard's uniform. I think.

Yeah, it's somewhere near the locker room. I'm pretty sure there's someone you kill and take it from in that area.. he may be one of the guys in the bathroom.

I'm beyond terrible at this game, it's hilarious. I don't know what it is, just something in my DNA that doesn't allow me to play this game haha.
