Chrono Cross - $12 - FSSS

If this isnt coming out on PSN this is an absolutely incredible deal and ill easily bite on it.

Anyone know if it is ?

I am a huge Chrono Trigger fan and I really enjoyed Chrono Cross. Great presentation and a really cool battle system. Worth picking up based on the price alone :)

yeah i love the colors and the magic and this game would have been great for trophies considering i did 3 runthroughs to get all of the characters and yet noone will ever know ;)

Such a great game. I still think this game is responsible for my longest ever gaming session. Pretty sure I played it for about 9 hrs straight the rainy day I bought it during summer break. Ah memories... :)

I had to grab this, I just had to. As a kid, I wanted this game so bad but had no money. I don't care if it's GH either. Thanks OP!

Tough to decide. I'm willing to bet PSone games look like ass on an HDTV. Should we hold out hope for a PSN release? I've tried Final Fantasy VII on a PSP screen and it looks great since the pixels are smaller. Everything looks sharp.
It's actually $15.03 with shipping.
$10 for those of us with Amazon Prime.

Also good $10 filler for those without Prime to get FSSS or someone can get $15 worth of other stuff to get FSSS. ;)

The game itself is excellent, but my favorite part was actually the soundtrack. Yasunori Mitsuda did an incredible job composing the music for this. Highly recommended for those who haven't gotten a chance to play this classic.

While I'm normally one to fear hyperbole, this is one of the greatest games ever made; if you own a a ps1/2/3 and don't hate rpg's by principle, this is an absolute must-buy.

Really an amazing game. I had some issues with aspects of it but overall one of the most memorable and interesting RPGs on the PS1, which is saying something. Worth it for the unique plot alone.
It seems to work fine on PS3 now for those wondering but don't quote me on that.

It is a greatest hits version since I got it a few weeks ago. Its not bad for $10 though and I highly doubt you'll get a new black label for that price.

^^^You might if you pay 5 cents more and get it from Amazon instead of hubba games. I got 2 original Uncharted not too long ago. Obviously the chances are slim though.

Bought one for the hell of it (having Amazon Prime did help convince me). I have the first one (Chrono Trigger) on the PSX, but I have yet to open it. With school and work, I doubt I'll have time to even open this game until Christmas break.

Well, now we know and it really turns me on :)

I second this. The music is incredible in this game. Even the intro music really sets the mood for the game.

I'm hoping they bring this out on PSN. My original copy is missing the first disc.. This Amazon deal is awesome so I'll probably jump on it.

Picked this up earlier in the month, didn't want to open it yet because I'm not going to play it anytime soon. Except one of the discs is loose inside the case, so I may have to open it :|
I liked Chrono Cross more than Trigger.
Seconded. Trigger fans hate on it because it isn't the game or the story that they wanted, but the music is gorgeous, the game still looks surprisingly good 10+ years later (most PS1 games look like shite these days) and the battle system is an interesting variation on standard JRPG fare. The only real knock on it for me is the loading times. Way too long by modern standards.

Anyone who hasn't played this yet should... NOW. Assuming you're even remotely interested in JRPGs.
Being that it's GH anyways, I ordered a like new copy thru amazon for 8.99 shipped after prime.
That's probably the smart thing to do - although it's worth it to me to pay the extra dollar just to not have to deal with those stupid warehouse deals stickers, hehe.

I already have the black-label version of this game, but I thought I'd go ahead and get a sealed copy, so I ordered this a few weeks ago when it was $9.99, but it was of course the greatest hits, the seal was horrible looking, and the case was actually cracked in several places. Hopefully everyone else will have better luck. Amazon decided to put mine in the thinnest, most fragile looking piece of cardboard I've ever seen.
Someone confirm if this isn't greatest hits?
Dude, the game came out 10 years ago and you're asking whether this is NOT the GH?

[rolls eyes]

Not that it matters much anyways.

If you really need the black version, just go to ebay.

Eh, is he expected to know which games became Greatest Hits and which games didn't?

The box art on Amazon shows a black label version, so it's not that far off to guess it's that version since all other Ps1 games they still sell are the GH version.

I ordered a copy. Might as well, don't think I'll see it cheaper and every says it's a great RPG.

This is the kind of game Square should be remaking with todays graphics! This would be a sick addition to XBLA or PSN....

This is one of my favorite RPGs, it's often unappreciated and overlooked by the RPG crowd. I recommend this to anyone who likes JRPG's.

I'm so gonna play it now :whistle2:D

Dang it...$10...I have a feeling I'll get this and that probably dreadful Lunar remake...and probably hate both, but...

:applause: It's one of my favorite game soundtrack. Well worth a play through if you never played it.

I had this in my cart and almost bought it, but then I checked my stack of PS1 games. Of course, I already own it. I'm such an idiot, and my backlog now owns me. I even had a copy of vagrant story I didn't know about!! :dunce:

My backlog owns me too, although I think this would be my only unplayed PS1 game. Though I do have at least one PC game from '99...umm...and I just bought Quake 2 I think, come to think of it...yeah.

Regarding how PS1 games look... 2D stuff looks great. I mean Street Fighter Alpha on my TVs looks amazing. So does Super Mario World. They look jaw droppingly yummy IMO.

But 3D stuff on last gen systems can be harder to get used to.

It also matters how good the scaler in your TV is. Sony and Samsung have great ones. Off brand ones don't, and I've heard someone say their Panasonic plasma doesn't, which surprises me if true. I've found that if you can connect through S-video or better on Sony/Samsung, you get results comparable to a good CRT from Sony's hardware. My PS2 looked bad through composite though, but when I found my S-Video cable, stuff looked fine. My SNES through composite looked fine too...better than ever actually.

I went ahead and bought it over the weekend for $12 (rebought it I should say)...along with the Lunar remake...

Two games related to games I love, but which I may hate

Personally, I disliked CC. I admit the music was splendid and the graphics (for a PSOne game) are impressive. However, the story is convoluted and this is all made much worse by the continued use of flashbacks. It's typical anime story-telling, or Kojimia-like blather.

IMHO, your $12 could be better spent on today's games. I'd even suggest Blue Dragon over this one, and I didn't like that one much, either.

That said, CC is better than Legend of Dragoon -- which gamers-in-the-know will understand isn't particularly a compliment.

I liked Blue Dragon mostly because of the strong gameplay, but yeah, the story was weak-well...actually it was pretty strong by Japanese RPG standards

Your description of CC is exactly why I quit playing it to begin with, back in the day...only now these guys have talked me into it again

But yeah, the original Chrono Trigger had a strong, coherent story and gameplay...didn't like anything about CC as well when I originally played it.
