I been wanting to play this game like forever. I just beat chrono cross and love it. I managed to buy one off from ebay for $20 since I don't want to cough dough for a cartridge. When I received the game, play it for like an hour and noticed that the loading kill it for me. What up with the loading! Is it the same for SNES too? Because I just can't stand it. Will it load faster on a regular PS1/bleem? Any way to fix it?

thanks

The SNES version of Chrono Trigger has no loading time before each battle, only the PS1 version does. Sadly, I don't think there is any way to speed that up. If it gets too annoying then you'd be better off finding the SNES version of the game (good luck with that). Don't give up on the game though, it's one of the best.

If the SNES version of Chrono Trigger had no loading times, and the emulator is suppose to emulate the SNES version of CT, then logic would dictate that the ROM would have no loading times either.

I'd play the SNES version and then rip the videos/cutscenes from the PSX version.

I've played through both. The cutscenes are cool, but don't really add a ton. They're pretty short. You're definitely better off with the snes version.

Trigger is much, much better than Cross. It's one of the best games ever, period. You have to play it, Emulator or PS1!

I sold off a complete Chrono Trigger and threw in the official Nintendo guide for $40 (I had paid $40 for it and $3 for the guide . . . both used) in 1996-7 before ebay created a market for such stuff.

I only regret it a little . . .

The same guy gave me $40 for FFIII complete with guide (I got it by used by trading in 3 cheap crappy games at a local game store, the guide from a NP subscription bonus)

and $40 for a complete Earthbound (big box with guide inside) I got it on sale for $30ish.

I thought I was being slick $120 for 3 games . . . figured that in 10 years there would be plenty of cheap copies if I wanted them again.

Funny thing is, I don't . . . I'd like to have those back to sell them each for $100 on ebay :)

I'll get Chrono Trigger and FF3 both again if I see them cheap but I was frustrated playing those games. Loved the music and graphics and somewhat the storyline but found the battles to be tedious and getting caught while traveling was such a drag . . . one of the few times where I felt like I was wasting my life playing video games.

If I remember right... I think the PS1 copy is pretty much just an emulated SNES version. If you look on the disk with a PC you should see the rom file that you can just load in an emulator.

I own both, but I've been wanting to play the PS1 version to see the extra cut scenes and whatever, but the load times have kept me away. If the PS3 is backwards compatible maybe a faster drive will help reduce load times.
Get HDloader for the ps2.... that should help...
HDloader doesnt play psone games
the snes version with no loading still sucked. horrible game.
you have to be the most pessimistic (spelling?) person I have ever encountered on CAG. You always say games suck. Oh and for the record. Chrono Trigger is in my top 3 games of all time and I don't even really get into rpgs. It has ultimate replayability.

thanks for the reply. I'm going to give CT on emulator a try, but first I need to buy a PC controller. There is no way I'm using the keyboard. Oh yeah, what emulator is the best for playing SNES GAMES? I haven't play roms on emulators for years and that was to test out secret of mana. It would make it easier if emulators work on the PSP :)

If you thought Chrono Trigger's loading times for PS1 were bad try playing Persona 1. After playing and beating that game you can wait through any games loading time.

Dammit DDF, that's like 3 hours in. And here I thought you had legitimate reasons to dislike CT, reasons that I was curious to hear about...

I was a fan of ZSNES.

I believe nesticle is the best emulator. There may be a new one but that worked perfectly for me like 2 years ago. Oh wait, that is an nes emulator... nevermind.

That's how bad the game is. I couldn;t take any more crappiness.

I also quit OOT after the deku tree, and had so many people complain that I played too little, i finally caved and played the crapsterpiece the who way through a couple years ago and it was awful and I'm never doing it again. I know when games suck

I play it through an EMU (i have a PS1 and SNES copy so its legal).. and yeah its essentially the same as the SNES version.. i recommend a microsoft "sidewinder" controller it pretty much is exactly a SNES controller and it was easy to set up with the major emulators around.

in my opinion its probably the 3rd best RPG of all time (KOTOR1/2 is number 1 and I put Neverwinter Nights second.. ultimate replayable game).. but its probably the best console RPG ever.. easily the best Square RPG..

that's a crappy rpg list. all of them suck.

How's the sequel? I know people say it's not as good-- but on it's own is it an above average RPG?

I couldn't play through Chrono Trigger on PSone, either -- damn load times. I did maybe 15 hours. Playing PSone FF VI didn't bug me as much, for some reason.

Funny how I don't remember Persona's load times being that bad.

IIRC it's the Super Famicom (Japanese) version when you try to play Final Fantasy Chronicles disc on an emulator.

I have the Japanese and english version... so I could check, but I'm at work and I'll probably forget.

Maybe since it was one of the first PS1 RPGs you didn't become jaded yet. The random encounters were high plus the load times took about 8 seconds each fight. And that's going into a fight and coming out, so it's about 16 seconds of load time each fight. Other wise it was a pretty solid game.

anyone? i'm referring to chrono cross here...

It's a good game in it's own right, but I was looking for more of a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger and was very disappointed in that regard.

I'm not too much of a fan, really, but if you liked CT you might as well play it.

I don't think I have ever met a crappier or suckier online acquantence than denisdfat. Hey fatty make your own sucky thread so I don't have to drowned with you negativity. Thanks!

Yea, the battle system in chrono cross was pretty innovative. But I fell in love with the characters in CT. In CC, there was too damn many of them to like em all. However; the story was awesome and if I remember correctly brings in a little story from CT. It also seemed like to me that serge (if that was his name) was the weakest main character I have ever encountered in an rpg.

Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games ever made. You should buy a SNES and the cart it is worth it. In 1997 I sold Chrono Trigger for $35 this was before I found out about Ebay but I held onto the box, instruction manual, maps and inserts then in 2001 I sold them on Ebay for $55. Last year I bought the cart again for $20.

I've played a little of Chrono Cross up to where Kid is poisoned? after your first encounter with the evil fox guy. In my opinion it's pretty bad. For some reason I didn't care much for the characters, maybe it was the character designs.

But in general I don't like Playstation games either. They feel and look awkward - I just stuck to playing Genesis and Snes games, skipped Playstation and went straight to PS2.

My issuses with Chrono Cross had a lot to do with a lot of square games. I do not like not being able to "save" anywhere. I'm sorry I'm spoiled on my Xbox and today's RPGs, but I went to try that thinking it'd be like CT and while it wasn't a disappointment.. the Characters weren't as likable as CT's and I didn't like how you could just randomly get people in your party.. I didn't like the Items the most I hated "building" items (i guess it was kinda like taking the "prehistoric" aspect of the first game and making it the standard in the second)

it also had like this annoying "fade into battle" system that irritated me. again.. i'm used to KOTOR where the battles just happen they don't get all dramatic on me. but yeah. cool design lots of good ideas.. it just wasn't the game that it was continuing.
