Circuit City Xbox 360 HD DVD Player - $159.99
Why would you buy into a format that is now dead and being clearanced out? Makes no sense?
I mainly made it for people who payed full price for it a few days before christmas

the price is also the same at amazon and you can do the 30 day price match gurantee

The real pathetic part of this HD-DVD death cycle is dumbass Microsoft says they might go Blu-Ray...but with another stupid external add-on. Probably so less royalties go to Sony for an optional peripheral instead of royalties to Sony for stock Blu-Ray drives in every distant future 360.

It's all about choices. They don't want to force people to pay extra for something they don't want. It would make no sense to add it internally. If you want it, buy it seperately. If you dont, well you dont have to pay a HD tax just to play video games. After all, the 360 is a gaming machine first and a multimedia device second. Plus having an external device reduces the wear and tear on the internal drive.

Why would that be pathetic though?

Microsoft's already officially denied any potential support for BluRay in the future but since they failed to help Toshiba keep HD DVD afloat I wouldn't be shocked if they had a BR player in R&D. Hell, they'd be stupid NOT to at this point.

The only caveat is that it's only going to help the Sony fanboys draw retarded comparisons between the consoles by using the extra cost of an external BR player on the 360 as justification for going with PS3 instead.

Meh, I'm happily format neutral.
Why should they? They didn't force you to buy it.
because it seems most people that post here seem to think they are owed something by every company when something gets changed or updated that they bought right away... the Xbox Elite comes out and everyone thinks Microsoft owes them a free upgrade... gonna make a Blu-Ray add-on? Well I want you to exchange the HD drive cause you screwed the early buyers...

it's funny how the people most into technology forget how it works... technology changes almost day-to-day... that's what you get when you buy new stuff.

I think MS is one of the main contributors to the death of HD-DVD. They should have used HD-DVD as the 360's standard media format 1 year ahead of BR, which would have made the format war last longer.

The war is over. Maybe, I will actually buy some BR movies in the future.

They didn't have the external HD-DVD drive available at launch. Opting to make it standard would've hiked the 360's price up even more, and was deemed unnecessary, as MS wasn't part of HD-DVD, and DVD9s seem to be sufficient space for the majority of games (although Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are multi-disc games, but all 3 of my PotC BDs are 2-disc sets themselves).

I wouldn't count the war as officially over, as Toshiba could stand to come back up by suing everybody who breached contract (Warner, for example). The right suit could result in an OOC settlement of HD-DVD exclusivity. Although the format should still be around for a while as a PC preferred format for software and backup (once affordable).

WB had an opt out clause as does Universal and Paramount(supposedly). They had to remain exclusive/neutral for x months then they could opt out.

Uh and if Blu-ray dies to some other format like direct download movies, or something else, what would Microsoft do then? The 360 is a gaming platform. The rest is nice, but what do you think keeps the cost of the 360 down versus the PS3? Keeping the optionals optional.

I dont think this is true at all. In fact, i've read the exact opposite, as previously stated in this thread. Microsoft has said they would put out an external blu-ray drive when the time comes, but that Microsoft believes the future is not in physical media, but in downloads.

So you would have paid $700 for a 360 at launch? Or actually, since the technology wasn't available when the 360 launched, you would have paid $600 for a 360 if it launched the same time as the PS3?

See the err of your words yet?

The future IS in downloads. And that future is coming much sooner than you think, which is why my advice to most people is to not even invest in HD media if you haven't already.

Oh and Microsoft will never make a blu ray add-on for the 360, get over it. You may possibly see them include one in their next console, but only if blu ray really takes off, which it likely won't.

And HD DVD is far from dead.

Just like its dominating the music industry? Digital Downloads becoming the main way to get movies is incredibly far down the line, if it even happens. Its still a small portion of the music industry. Physical media will not got away for a loong time. You are fooling yourself. To tell people not to buy any HD player and wait for this is idiotic.

Once the VHS add on comes out I'ma buy the sh*t outta that sh*t! Maybe It will upscale all my VHS Video Cassette tapes and have auto tracking!

Hmm Doood- How much more dead do you want it to be before you throw in the towel?

Did you buy all that HD porn people been talking about and now you're mad you have to buy hd porn on the BluRay Machine?

If you're willing to buy the VHS add on you can score really good bargains on old porn tapes- I figure you're looking for a bargain 'cause you are a cheap ass gamer too!

See, this is one of those asinine "YOU CAN'T FIRE ME, 'CUZ I QUIT!" sorts of scenarios. Who gets the agency for being the party who killed the deal?

Because let's not bullshit ourselves: there is NO WAY that the BDA, or Sony, would permit a Blu-Ray addon to be made for the 360. They'll be happy to license it next gen (and get a share of all MS' software and hardware sales), but for now, two things are true:

1) PS3 has the most slack to pick up in terms of marketshare
2) People who own a 360 won't buy a PS3 if they can spend less than half the price for a Blu-Ray player

So, it's absurd to think a 360 addon is going to happen. Halo 4 on the PS3 will happen first.

EDIT: All that said, thanks for posting the deal, OP, but the standalone HD-A3 is available for $20 cheaper, and comes with the movies 300 and Bourne Identity (both a good deal better than King Kong).
