Ive been playing the hell out of MLB Power Pros for the Wii, but doing that has actually inspired me to bust out some of the old classic Baseball games I loved back in the day.
I dusted off my Yobo NES clone and busted out Baseball Simulator 1.000. Good fun but not nearly as good as Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, which I played next on my snes. That game is still playable today, and the whacky Ultra pitches and hits are awesome. Plus you could edit your own teams and pick your uniform colors, assign powers, etc.
But then I went back to the NES and played the greatest baseball game of all time, Baseball Stars from SNK. I was the Ninja Blacksox and I played against the Japan Robins. The Robins won 4-2, but only cos I let off 3 runs in the first inning before I remembered the controls.
That game even has girls in it! The NB have a girl named Kuno.
And I forgot how well the graphics hold up for a NES game. This game looks incredible. When I was a freshman in college we used to run a 6 team season mode with this game with all the guys I lived with. I do remember that every season ended when the battery erased all our hard work tho... =(
If ever there were games that needed to come out on the Wii's Virtual Console, its Baseball Stars, and Super Baseball Simulator 1.000.
